Ok, a couple of questions, then.

I read the military ranks. But nowhere in the Marines ranks does it say "commandant". What is that?

Also, in the Army, it doesn't say "commander" anywhere.

In OPF, isn't gastovski a commander? I remember reading that in some breifings.

I think 'commander' is just a way of adressing someone that's in charge of a group of soldiers. It's not a rank.

Commander (Kommendörkapten) is a rank that navy pukes use. It is the equivalent of the army's/amphibious Lieutenant Colonel rank.

The Commandant is a billet, not a rank.  He's the 4-star general that heads the Corps.  Similar to the Sergeant Major of the Marine Corps.  

In the game, I always assumed that Gastovski was supposed to be a SEAL. In the U.S., Commander is a Navy rank equivalent to a Lieutenant Colonel.
