Cannot see enemies

Recommended Posts

Hi to everyone.I have been playing the campaign for about two days and I think it is amazing and a very challenging and realistic game.I think that most of the military games should be like this one.Now to the point and please don't laugh at me.Sometimes a member of my team or even worse me,are spotting an enemy. Some of these times I cannot see the enemy at all!!!!He is firing at me or close to me but I can't spot him.Is it usual? Is there a way so i can detect him?If he is wearing a camouflage is it harder for me to spot him?I can see that an enemy after 100-150m he can be spotted only with optics.

Maybe try a different difficulty setting, IIRC at the lower levels it places a diamond shaped indicator over any enemies you and your squad know about.

is it all the time or in heavily vegetated areas. I sometimes have the same problem. camo and cover contribute to this. lowering the postprocessing level to low or off helps a bit.

this is one of the things i reallly like about arma2. the enemy aren't going to stand out making it easy to shoot em they take cover and move about. look for movement or gunfire smoke - those 2 things make spotting the enemies much easier. also if you really are stuck press m and you'll probably see red dots indicating where enemies are in relation to you (i don't use this but it is there on default)

This is why camoflague is used in real life. :) It is hard to spot units and thats a very nice feature of this game. However with time you learn to listen to where weapon sounds come from (little bug atm randomly make distant weapon sounds heared instantly instead of delayed. This will be fixed), and you also learn to spot them easier as time go by. ARMA is definatelly one of the games you have to put in a bit of extra time to learn everything. So it will get better. You'll see. ;)

Take Defunkt's advise for now if it bothers you too much. But i normally dont like going too low and get a lot of help from the game as it just takes me longer to learn the realistic mode. It prolonges the inevitable. :D Unless you do want to play on lower setting ofcourse. Test it.

Hi all

First lesson do not be where the nasty men with guns can shoot you. Always try to minimise the directions they can shoot you from.

Start here.

http://community.bistudio.com/wiki/ArmA_II_Hints_and_Tips

After you have moved to a place where the enemy can no longer fire at you. Try to kill them. Look for the muzzle flash and smoke of those firing at you. Camouflage does its job so you have to look for other target indicators. Listen look for the sounds. Wait for them to move and do not move yourself other than behind defilade (large lumps of terrain or several houses) movement is what gives you away same as it gives them away. Take time to spot not just obvious ones who are shooting at you and charging you, also look for his mate who is flanking you; right now. It is usually better engage the enemy from a distance with place of defilade handy. Break contact is always an option. Remember where the enemy last saw you is where they will move to, so it would make a great ambush spot. ;)

not see enemy ? maybe more resolution, bigger LCD ?

maybe darker room (more visible screen) ? i have 19 LCD on 1280*1024 and 100% resolution ratio and sometimes it is luck to see enemy :)

you know, camo works good, vegetation/flora hides people, so yes, sometimes it is hard to spot enemy

your AI team mates see them, cause AI see other way than player

AI has sensors and they notice enemy probably by presence + being in contact

you must notice enemy yourself

you will learn, we all were beginners, don't worry, we all in beginning of playin this get many many many times kick by AI enemy :)

Watch this, should solve all your questions:

Serious now, at the star is hard indeed. Even harder in the fist missions where is early in the morning, the contrast don´t help at all. Those cases of light make all diference in combat.

But you get used to it, distinguishing soldiers from bushes at distance take some time.

The AI in the game 'sees' a slightly different world than you do. It's possible for your AI to spot someone while you can't physically see them and visa versa.

When you press Space Bar and move the cursor it will highlight the type of enemy that you are currently pointing at.

Seems a bit like cheating to me, because with this tactic you can spot enemies no matter what obstakle blocks your vision.

This feature is disabled in higher difficulty settings...or was it just in ACE2? Dont remember. I just got started myself.

And i must say no matter how cautious i advance, i suffer a lot from the "I am dead? How comes?"-Impression.

A lot to learn, a lot to try and a bit to read too.

Therefore i might link you to the so called Arma Bible?

http://ttp2.dslyecxi.com/

Good luck with your efforts. In other Threads i read a lot that all people suffer from the same difficulties in the beginning,

but overcome them in time and unlock the full potential of that game.

What I do is, in this order, check for direction of incoming gunfire, try to find muzzleblasts (smoke, flash), shoot at flash.

That, and looking out for movement: this is mostly a subconcious skill. After a while, you´ll notice automatically without trying if there´s something moving awkwardly among the bushes, but it took me a few years of playing OFP to get there.

To ID, what´s important to check is the shape of the helmet, shape of the weapon, and the colour of the camouflage. For example, Chedaki use this blue-grey russian splinter camo which is very easily seen, CDF troops use this off-green pattern with western style helmets, Marines Uniforms have a very fat green with coyote brown vests, Russian troops have a peculiar helmet shape and their camouflage is darker and more towards the blueish side, while marines green goes more towards brown.

Direction of movement, and position relative to yours is also important. If somebody is shuffling around in front of me in the bushes, and I know I have friendly positions behind me and no other Units were mentioned in the missions briefing, I´m more inclined to assume that it´s hostiles rather than friendlies. Friendly fire usually happens with me because of panic shots (Ai bursting around a corner in front of me, or running into my line of fire.)

Hope this helps a bit too

fooling around in the armory, using a MG nest and the challenge is defend this location.

Guys attacking me over a hill are just dots and I'm shooting at them, they are shooting at me. I even managed to hit a few of them at this long range before I got sniped. I love these long distance firefights
