TovarishMimino 10 Posted April 8, 2010 Current setup is fine, but wouldn't it be more fun and realistic if the type of buildings and the locations would be limited? For example, a Heavy Factory can only be built in a larger industrial city. Barracks could be built around any town. Etc. etc. Although this might change the game play and the strategy greatly, and I will probably get flamed right now >.<
Lethn 10 Posted April 13, 2010 I don't really agree with that, because then you'd have a balance problem where people would rush for certain towns etc. in order to get what they see as the best stuff like tanks etc. keep an eye on what power gamers do because they're the kind of people who will always find exploits, glitches and balance problems early in the game and keep using them until everyone either leaves or does the same thing. I do however feel that the commander certainly does need better RTS elements, for instance I don't think there should be any limits on how many A.I units he can purchase. I also think that groups need to be done far better and you should be able to select them on the actual map and command them that way as opposed to tediously pressing shift + f keys in order to get your troops to go places in an organized fashion. The main problem with Arma 2 now as I said last paragraph, it's tedious, particularly the A.I management, not suggesting it be dumbed down at all but it certainly needs more work so that we can more comfortably use it since your supposed to have fun on games it shouldn't be work. TovarishMimino 10 Posted April 13, 2010 Well, I see your point. Maybe allow them to be built in any town without the base limit. I just think it's kinda silly when ppl hide all the factories kilometers away from civilization in the woods. It is possible to select groups on the map by left clicking on them, or dragging a box around them, but the selection and orders are very unnatural to an RTS player. Maybe left click to select and right click to move/attack. But then again I'm just a two week old player and maybe those who have been playing this genre for a long time are used to the way it currently is set up. Lethn 10 Posted April 14, 2010 I've been playing Arma 2 for awhile now and I find commanding troops completely tedious, way more than it should be, the problem is there are of course going to be a few die hard fanbois here who will probably defend the system to the death no matter how retarded it is and say we're just dumb or some stupid argument like that. I can see your point with the factories but I can also argue against it, you'll find largely anyway that the vehicle factories placed in the woods are completely useless because the A.I can't drive through that many trees. As this is a game it helps people can keep their factories hidden away because that means there's a lot less chance that power gamers will use the same lame ass rush tactics that they have in RTS'
