advocatexxx 0 Posted April 15, 2002 I never commanded a tank in real life, but it's clear that the front of the tank carries the heaviest of armor. A direct shot to the front of the turret could indeed damage the motors and/or gyros for the gun, not to mention all the electronic components. That's possibly the reason why the gun gets damaged in OFP. Not because of a direct hit to it, but because of partial damage to some of the vital systems. You will also notice that when your gun is reddish orange, gunner will have greater problem aiming. The gun won't be stuck, but his aim will fluctuate even while the enemy tank is in clear range. This in my opinion is simulating the failure of some gun control systems.
Guest Posted April 15, 2002 The only captured King Tiger from the second world war (it lives in the tank museum in Bovington (England) now) was disabled in a similar manner. A shell glanced the bottom of its main (88mm) gun and wedged itself in between the turret and the body of the tank. The crew couldn't work out what had happened, so they bailed out. Of course the tank was still fine, it had just inadverntantly been turned into a Jagdpanzer (fixed turret guns).
