eble 3 Posted February 22, 2010 ok there goes my hunch for the problem, no worries, I'll look for a revised afterburner script. Mine must have become corrupted at some point and it been carried over into arma2, I had a habbit of messing with them a lot.
quicksilver67 10 Posted February 22, 2010 I'm guilty of that myself; still, that's how you learn, right? I know what it isn't, but I either I can't see it, or don't know enough to know what it IS. I added the acceleration files to both the F4 and the F14. I then set acceleration to 100. Naturally, that made stalling and issue at low speeds, but not unrealistically so. I suspect if you reduced the skin drag coefficient and either removed or reduced the acceleration line proportionately (I'll bet it's NOT a nice neat curve), you could work around one aspect of the afterburner issue, albeit in a not-perfect kind of way (it would at least give you back your low speed control). However, that would still do nothing for the engine manipulation exploit. I may tinker along those lines today with a different model wherein the skin drag coefficients are easier to access, just to see what happens.
rubberkite 19 Posted February 23, 2010 Thank you for conversion Eble, A Jolly Roger texture will be really apreciated :) this is a request for texture maker :) http://www.esys.org/Piraterie/Jolly_Roger-F14.jpg The Camo texture are nice the gray one is not so good, she looks similiar to a plastic model... Two words about plane performance, they should be game balanced, this rule should be valid for every addons a standard balanced config it's a really nice thing Here is some rpt problem with sonic boom script File IkaR_F14_ir\Scripts\FX_SonicBoom.sqf, line 27 Error in expression <.5,0]], [0.4,0.2], 0.2, 0.25, "", "", ""]; _emitter setpos (getpos _this); _last> Error position: <]; _emitter setpos (getpos _this); _last> Error ; mancante
Fox '09 14 Posted February 23, 2010 I love the plane! Looks beautiful from the outside.. the inside could use some work. Here is a video i made <object width="560" height="340"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fyGLBAe5-AU&hl=en_US&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fyGLBAe5-AU&hl=en_US&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="560" height="340"></embed></object> I love how when the jet is far away you can hear a rumbling sound. eble 3 Posted February 23, 2010 The sonic boom script RPT is weird as it not actually activated on the addon, I'll remove all non used scripts for the next release, it was my fault leaving it in. The F14 came with a Texture template, unfortunately I don't make the skins myself. If anyone makes a good skin replacement let me know and I'll include it in the next release. I'll be working on the issues for this addon next week. Keep the feedback coming

eble 3 Posted February 24, 2010 Hey mate I doubt many would like this F14 as I do hence all the hours I spend on it :) If I can get rid of most of the annoying errors for the next release I'll get the addon signed for MP use. (Thats not saying you can't use it already) but it might have issues. a beta release schedule would be as follows (In fact this is the same for all the conversions I'm doing) beta 1 - Arma2 conversion - fixing bugs and game breaking issues, like the afterburner. Beta 2 - if nothing serious left to fix, signed addon released and movement away from the OFP scripted weapons to arma2 proxies and IAWS systems. Hopefully thats all it would take for the jet to be final.
klubargutan 11 Posted February 24, 2010 (edited) Hello, may I ask You to something? I'm very happy You submited F-14 Tomcat and may I ask, what are the names of weapons and magazines of this plane? abs 2 Posted February 24, 2010 This plane is one of my favourite planes of all time. I was so disappointed when the US decommissioned it. I can't wait to get home from work and try it out! Abs
eble 3 Posted February 25, 2010 @ stiltman - update * 'No entry 'bin\config.bin/CfgFactionClasses.USAF' Fixed CFG error * No engine sound in cockpit Fixed thanx to Anzac Steve * When turning head back as pilot, wings and body are white. (USNavy versions) Fixed * As gunner, you see the HUD from the pilot. pending/not sure of fix * Some LOD seem to have no texture, from far it turned all White, then closer the texture appeared (seem to be USN version to). Fixed * Missiles seem to spawn above the plane when firing. so makes a missile and "explision" appear above the plane for a brief second. Weapons scripted/expect proper fix as addon moves to arma2 proxies * If im not mistaken the rearwing should work as aileron and elev.? still checking, if anyone has information please advise :) Other personal things. * Would like to see the guns for the pilot, and maybe hydras. considering as an option * Making the wings animate in cockpit view to, right now they seem to be swept back all the time when turning around in cockpit. Fixed * If possible, animate the landing gear doors to close after the gears, and not simultaneous pending CFG * Key files, so it can be used on servers with lock. pending future versions

Stiltman 3 Posted February 25, 2010 @Eble, good fixes there.. :) regarding aileron elev, got some vids for you. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LY1DmMS3UW8 at around 0:35 in. around 1:
eble 3 Posted February 25, 2010 @Eble, good fixes there.. :)regarding aileron elev, got some vids for you. Ok mate, no idea how I missed it. Most of the time I go by what the original addon did, I'll add a limited aileron to the rear flaps, becuase the game engine will now have a surface to use as ailerons it will mean it will change direction quicker now, I'll tweak the ailerons settings in the CFG so it isn't insane etc. Thanks again

quicksilver67 10 Posted February 26, 2010 Looks pretty clear from the video that the F-14 employed both wings and tail as ailerons, making it pretty damned responsive (but not as good as the F-16). Love that movie "Final Countdown," where the F-14s are playing with the zeros (everything on them hanging down to maintain control at close to stall speeds). ---------- Post added at 05:53 PM ---------- Previous post was at 05:52 PM ---------- I meant wing mounted ailerons in addition to individually rotating the tail planes.... argh. Technically, the F-14 has wing mounted spoilers and tailerons. Also, I'd imagine the responsiveness of the f-14 in the roll would be limited by its wide-mounted engines. The reason why it has spoilers on the wings to aid in roll rate is probably because of this. Also, I'd like to add that earlier, I wasn't asking for 'realistic dynamics' like Eble's strawman would assert. I was saying the f-14 as it is flies like a magic carpet, and there's something wrong with that. I'm glad Gnat agrees.

The addon already includes these under 'ID' folder in the PBO. The texture for these is infact the OFP texture, it holds up really well considering how old they are, the jets actaully look well used etc. .. .. the other legacy paint shemes are here 16 in total including those above Edited February 26, 2010 by Eble

eble 3 Posted February 26, 2010 Considering Ofp textures, tbh wouldnt have even known if you had not said, looking fantastic Eble. The legacy F14 will have the ID textures as a hidden texture so if you place something like this in the init line you can call whatever squadron you want. setobjecttexture[0, "\IkaR_F14_IR\ID\100.paa"] this will only work on the Legacy version tho, as the ID on the others won't look right. eble 3 Posted February 26, 2010 (edited) Ok beta V1.5 released here: F14 Beta V1.5 Download Included a new version called 'F14 US Navy Legacy(CAP)' this version alows the user to select a squadron from the ID folder, a sample of which is included in the addon, the real version is also in the PBO the folder in the rar file is for reference only. select the above F14 and put this into the init line to change textures: this setobjecttexture [0,"\IkaR_F14_IR\ID\100.paa"] the squadrons range from 100 through to 116 refer to page 7 for a preview of the squadrons available. the Legacy version unit name is IkaR_F14_AIM_54L Please note the skins for the legacy bersions are the original OFP skins, this is very much a WIP version, this version has a shadow bug, if it bothers you turn shadows off whilst flying this version has the following fixes * 'No entry 'bin\config.bin/CfgFactionClasses.USAF' Fixed CFG error * No engine sound in cockpit Fixed thanx to Anzac Steve * When turning head back as pilot, wings and body are white. (USNavy versions) Fixed * As gunner, you see the HUD from the pilot. pending/not sure of fix * Some LOD seem to have no texture, from far it turned all White, then closer the texture appeared (seem to be USN version to). Fixed * If possible, animate the landing gear doors to close after the gears, and not simultaneous pending CFG * Key files, so it can be used on servers with lock. pending future versions Also increased the plane weight (Thanx for the advice Gnat) a fair bit and included tailerons which improve the feel of the F14 greatly. As always give it a whirl and let me know what you think. Southy Edited February 26, 2010 by Eble

Stiltman 3 Posted February 26, 2010 Good update mate.. some small things i noticed after this test.. :) * Legacy version, feels like it has some issues with the shadows specially on the elevs, and little on the wings.. could be mistaken here, not entirely sure but felt like some strange shadowing in some places.. not visible on the other versions though. * Legacy also have the Pilot look back, no texture (white) body. * and if im not mistaken the ailerons are inverted :D - you did have the geolod mass (edit) in this one to?, felt like it was a little diffrent to fly, better though :D
