CarlGustaffa 4 Posted April 26, 2010 It appears though that the crappier your PC, the higher the benefit for you. Sounds promising for me then :) But, the "microstutters" when turning etc hasn't been my major issue. Some of the trees however. Being forced to look into the ground as you pass a patch of certain trees, or having to go all the way down on texture settings (trees become really ugly), has been my major thorn. stun 5 Posted April 26, 2010 It appears though that the crappier your PC, the higher the benefit for you. I see people with monster rigs that see no real benefits. If only that were true. I have a crappy PC and I definitely haven't seen an improvement. :(
jw custom 56 Posted April 26, 2010 But, the "microstutters" when turning etc hasn't been my major issue. About that, i remember getting that when the smoothing was introduced with a beta. In a later beta the smoothing slider was added and that removed that microstutter for me when turning/aiming.
EricM 0 Posted April 26, 2010 (edited) I've been playing some more in the editor, flying alone with all sorts of jets, and the difference is stunning for my old G8800GTX. Even more than in the benchmarks... (no CPU bottleneck with the AI)... I get over 50% performance increase (+15 fps, with steading FPS between 45 and 55 @1600 VD). This beta is miraculous for my rig... If it wasn't for the ground texture bug, it would be perfect. Actually, all the fps improvement I've experienced seem due to the grass rendering being shut down when flying fast : [66997] Optimized: Grass not rendered when flying high and fast, schould reduce stutter. No wonder I suddenly had a super FPS boost in the F35 ! When on Foot, the FPS seems largely unchanged however (maybe even 1-2 fps less in some situations)... It was too good to be true... stun 5 Posted April 26, 2010 @EricM What CPU do you have? I have an 8800 GT with a c2d @ 2.68 Ghz and my fps have dropped by about 5 fps over the vanilla 1.05 with this beta patch? I use a 1600 VD with most settings normal, PP off, AA off and no shadows. It's strange that this beta is having such mixed results.
EricM 0 Posted April 26, 2010 @Stun : I have Q6600 @ 2.66, running Arma2 on SSD under Win7 64b. However, as I now corrected in my previous post I was largely fooled by this : [66997] Optimized: Grass not rendered when flying high and fast, should reduce stutter. On foot, it's about the same... (benchmark mission still show an improvement though). Very hard to tell then...

stun 5 Posted April 27, 2010 @EricM I was getting a bit jealous of how well the new Beta seemed to be running for you. I'm a bit relieved to tell the truth. Looks like it is similar to what I'm getting then. I was getting reasonably smooth flying with vanilla 1.05 (with a VD of 2000) so I didn't really notice much of an improvement when flying with the new Beta. The one thing I did notice aside from missing textures on the ground was a feeling of clunkiness (excuse the technical term) when moving as an infantryman. It just seemed smoother on the previous Beta and vanilla.

SASrecon 0 Posted April 27, 2010 (edited) I can't get the beta to install. It says: 'Error found in file ALL/ARMA2.EXE' after I uninstalled the previous beta and installed this one. Now I can't install any patch (not even the last one) because I get that error. (details: ) Please be patient. This update may appear to take a long time to complete. It is updating and installing very large data. Verifying ArmA 2, version 1.05... File ArmA2.exe is missing. Some error occurred during patch installation. Patch file is probably dammaged. You may need to download it again. Error in file 1.05, phase 10. This is what I get when I try to load up ARMA2+beta Although strangely loading up ARMA2 without the beta works just fine. I'm pretty sure the file download isn't damaged because the patch installation worked a few days ago... any tips/help? I'll try deleting the beta folder. Fail... it won't let me move/delete the ARMA2.exe which I think is causing the problems. Edited April 27, 2010 by SASrecon
Dwarden 1125 Posted April 27, 2010 terminate arma2.exe in memory first then erase the beta folder then install the beta patch if that fails restart OS and ease the beta then install the beta patch

Defunkt 431 Posted April 27, 2010 it allows You change the volume of most VON channels (not e.g. direct chat as that's not VON radio) I either don't understand what you're saying here or I do and just don't get the logic, why exclude one channel from this adjustment?
