Should I map my joystick thrust slider to "analogue" or normal actions?

Recommended Posts

Like the title says, should I map my joystick slider to the "analogue" version of increase/decrease thrust or the other one? Same goes for the rudder slider. Thx in advance.

If you use the analog version you can maintain a certain thrust level with your slider. If you use the standard one (no analog) it is like an on/off switch, basically max thrust and max decrease thrust when engaged. I believe the rudder works the same. I use the analog versions so I can maintain a steady control of both. That is my understanding of this.

analogue is better. it takes a little getting used to compared to the old control type.

just remember to unmap your controls form the old ones.

Try 'em both and see which you prefer.

I'd normally vote analogue too, but the strange BIS method of putting collective/thrust and brakes on the same axis is too counter-intuitive for my liking so I've gone back to the old 4 position collective/thrust as at least I know what the helo/plane is going to do then.

Not ideal I'll grant but the best I can achieve until BIS use different axes for each like any other program I've ever used.

The problem with analog throttle in ArmA2 is that it's 50% throttle and 50% brake.

I agree with Lt Darkman, try em both and see what you can live with.

I'm a sim pilot from way back and wouldn't dream of using anything but analog...that is, until until ArmA2. It's too easy to throttle back and and miss the mid-point....then find yourself falling from the sky.

Hopefully one day BI will revisit their analog design.

*I'd really like to see an independent set of control options for both planes and rotory, too
