I am not going to lie to you, i am new to the game, never played the first game, all i have under my belt is that i have played other tactical shooters.

However this is way beyond what i have tried before, I would like to ask if anyone is willing to help me learn about the game, weather it is someone who just wants to help out or a clan who are looking for recruits, just would like to get more involved about the game

I would klike to become good in all areas in the game but would like to focus on:

-Flight and air combat

-bombing (dont know if in the game lol)

-airbourne paratrooper

-command (of AI)

-General tactical awareness

Thanks for reading, if you want to help, just piost here or PM me, remember i need help in everything, LOL!

New players is a good thing, @ Liamr you need to practice all aspects of the game. I Played opf for hours online but mostly in single player. Doing single player missions then going to more complex missions being the squad leader. Played CTF online for hours, formed a clan and nearly got divorced lol. The point im making is its just learning all the different aspects of the game so they become second nature, then you can fit into any role :-)

There are other tactical shooters? Liamr, what is your background in shooters that you have played. I have personally been involved with many other shooters, (BF, JO, Ghost Recon, GRAW, Frontlines FOW, R6V, HL2: Insurgency, COD 1, 2, 3, etc, lol and more).

Some of us may find it easier to know someone's background and try to point out familiaralities for starters and go from there.

Tx. ArmA replaces all those games and more, lol. Set yourself some small attainable goals. My advice isn't perfect, but may help...

  • You should have a pc microphone and you will want to find servers who have an active teamspeak/ventrillo, etc running where you can hop on and chat with friendly folks willing to help out. Very hard to teach someone in forums, lol. You can't eat an elephant in 1 bite and ArmA is an elephant. I could name about 5 servers to you, but that is my opinion - this is something you really will have to find out for yourself. I can offer you my public Teamspeak which is active daily if you like. If you have trouble shoot me a PM and I'll get you the info.
  • Try going over some of the turorials a bit which will show you how to command AI (you may already be familar with this process from OFP 2). You will mainly find AI command capabilities in many Coops as well as Warfare and in a low # of PVP (player vs player) games. Give yourself a few days in training to learn the controls a bit.
  • Stay away from addons for now unless you know exactly what they are and how to use them.
  • Try to find 2-3 servers that have friendly gamers and don't mind spending time explaining how things work to people. Finding these servers may take you a few days, but there are definitely some out there that will fit your needs.
  • I honestly don't know what games would meet your expectations, but I think you may want to look for servers hosting Capture & Hold to get your feet wet with Multi-player games. I can point you to the Team Survival, Attack & Defend, and others that come close to the COD, R6V, but those are sessions usually hosted as events so that gamers who know how to play them can have good turnouts.
    • Capture & Hold - look for missions beginning with aas, C&H, CH, and the like. Berzerk is also a mission like C&H. These are missions that can be designed for player capacities anywhere from 5 vs 5 up to 50 vs 50. The thought behind this gametype is that you work with your group/team to get to base locations and must capture them either in any order or in order specified by the mission.

[*]Find some servers who run decent coops that have objectives that aren't overwhelming. When I say overwhelming I mean servers that host coops where 4-6 players can game in small attainable objectives. If you hop on servers where coops piss you off it could be that the mission is too far advanced, or it is way off balanced for the # of players on the server, or it could be that there isn't sufficient teamwork on the server, or it could be a poorly created coop.

Take your time, set some small goals and do some searching around to find places to hang regularly. That is what will get you the best bang for your buck.

I hope I haven't confused or overwhelmed you.

If you know how to play those other games, you know how to play arma too, since it's basically the same thing.

As for the rest, watch what other people are doing and try to do the same (unless they are doing something stupid, of course).

Good points made by Tom :)

Your more than welcome at battle.no servers, usually a pretty friendly group of players that dont mind explaining as we go.

Playing the SP will allso get you a feel of the game before you go into multiplayer, if you got some friends that allso got the game you will be able to play the campaign with them instead of playing the SP part all by yourself :)

Depending on your nationality youll probably find teams that speak your own language in the fanpage section of the forums. Having someone to play alongside with and using ventrilo or teamspeak helps a lot in this game.
