DCS: A-10C Warthog

Recommended Posts

Wow, I'd love that. The last one was awesome in it's day :) How about a Phantom/Mig 21 and ops over Nam?

THAT I would love!

These games are useless you need to have a 10 000 dollar replica cockpit system or you wont be able to bind the million keys in the settings.

I dont think its a matter of choice but of access to declassified data. ED probably did the Hokum because its a failcopter anyway..

I hope it's a choice, strafing in anything but the A10 is for wussies. It's a gunfighters airplane.

You happen to have $100.000.000 to help them out a little in achieving that goal? :P

I never considered that before, now I have a new use for my eventual lottery winnings.

Would indeed be an awesome way to spend lottery winnings! Or heck... why not finance the Ground Branch project?

Anyway, the A-10 does look interesting. I really like what they made with DCS: Black Shark.

As for too many things on the keyboard: Isn't that what keymaps printed out on paper and a programmable HOTAS are for?

As with all games, that I know of, from this developer there will be a "game" flight, and "game" avionics mode. So the controls are scalable, even on game mode there is quite a bit to remember, but you should be able to use most features after playing for a few hours...OK may more like a few days

Definitely looking forward to this, but what about learning curve? How long will it take for someone not that experienced with flightsims to get the thing off into the air? :D

You pretty much need TrackIR or FreeTrack for this, right?

Yes HOTAS + TrackIR/FreeTrack.

I wouldnt personally even consider flying a flightsim without those.

There will be training tutorials that look really helpful.

Just check out the start up video.

There is a learning curve but it's nothing that can't be overcome with perseverance and research (AKA RTFM ;) ).

As Private Noob mentioned, ED's tutorials are very well done.

About the whole, needing a TrackIR and special stuff topic. I used a cheap Logitech stick and a controller for an RC flight simulator, had very few issues. The mouse acts as view control and using all the cockpit buttons and it is surprisingly effortless. So although a TIR is a large benefit to immersion and maybe operating speed, its not an absolute must in order to be effective in game.

I really hope they improve the AI by a massive amount, that was Black Sharks only let down, wingman needing babysitting when asked to attack to make sure he didn't go into AA range, ground AI doing stupid things,.... etc.

Well that is right, if one is new to flightsims a cheap joystick is the way to go,

at least in the beginning, in case you dont get into it. I started with a logitech joystick too lol.

A whole deal is about immersion, I wouldn't play a racing game without wheel and pedals either.

Regarding "FlightSims", this weekend I installed "B17 Flying Fortress - The mighty 8th" again - talking about a blast from the past, especially with the graphics from 2001. But fun none-the-less, jumping between front, tail, side and turret gunners, navigator, bombadier and if I really feel like it, I might even take the pilots seat :D

Managing crews or a whole wing, planning your missions, with the proper abroach deduced from previous recon, with alternative targets; switching to escort fighters or even the enemy planes...

Now this game needs a revive, just think of the possibilities in SP and MP, strategic airwar as well as fighters dive and tac. bombers, countless possible expansions and theaters

I know there is IL2, I even have the original (none of the later expansions) - might try it again as well at some time. But as I remember it focusses mostly on the small fighters and ground attack planes...

Probably the other way around - an expansion of IL2 adding fully playable (multiple players per bomber!) "big game"

Have looked up a bit on CFS3, but I am not sure whether it is much better either...

This is what I call a "simulator".

I am definitly waiting for it.

I hope they will also make a F-18 (carrier ops) module !

Amen

I'd like to see the F-18 and even though it's out of service now I'D LOVE to see the F-14. That was a truly amazing aircraft.

Tornado FTW :) I think it would be the perfect project for DCS. Multiple roles, slightly older aircraft, general awesomeness.

I'd just love the AH-64! great to see the A-10, hope it is more a CAS game with FAC support than missions that are just like: fly to X destroy armour, RTB.

B-1 would be intresting for a change :)

I'd like to see a modern bomber sim as well.

B-1B or the Tu-22M for example.

That would be awesome... flying in a straight line for 3 days, monitoring the autopilot... navigating the cramped interior spaces on your way to the toilet in full 3d... having inane conversations with the other crew to keep from going insane... :p
