Choppers porpoising when in formation

Recommended Posts

Hi guys,

I am hoping for a little help with the chopper leader who continues to porpoise when leading the formation.

I have three choppers (all bot pilots) on the ground that load up the troops, they then all move to a waypoint a short distance away where I have two of the choppers join the lead chopper.

However once they are all in a group, and start heading towards the next waypoint, the leader starts to porpoise and of course the other two follow exactly what he is doing, it drives me nuts we spend the next few minutes on route bobbing up and down the sky.

If I set player as pilot for one of the joining choppers, the lead chopper does not porpoise, he flys nice and fast and low.

I have tried changing the behaviours, formation and speed etc of the waypoint settings but nothing seems to change.

Can anyone advise how I get this to stop please?

Cheers,

Wal

Hi guys,

G'day WallyJ,

I've noticed this AI behaviour if the other choppers are too close. Move them and their waypoint to about 100m apart from each other (Use the editor grid as a guide = 100m when viewed in close.) and see how that goes. I've got 3 choppers landing on an LZ fairly okay that way. (Working towards 10 for the LZ!) If they are too close or the flyin height is too low one will porpoise and go way up high and stay there, and not make the land waypoint. Guessing the AI is cycling through it's crash avoidance code. I am using a flyin height of 70 non-ASL.

Good luck!
