Patch 1.05 "Announced". Includes AH-64

Recommended Posts

I'm kinda with BF2_Trooper on this one. I can play anything else maxed out and have a smooth FPS. ArmA2.... not so much. I would expect it to be slower with all the stuff happening as someone mentioned, but it's really just ridiculous how bad it can get, even with settings lowered. And this is with XP32, and all the goodies. I build my rig to surpass ArmA2's recommended requirements, and it is still choppy. I'm also that guy who would rather have gameplay then fancy graphics but when I build a machine to surpass what the dev's tell us and it doesn't work as it should... then I start having issues. Hopefully they get it figured out soon, that is the day I'll actually try playing again. Until then I have OFP *AND* DR. Yes, that's correct, I like them both for what kind of game they are. :D

have you tried the beta patches? They've long fixed some performance issues. Hell my q6600 and 9800gtx can run the game fairly smoothly at 1680x1050 all very high so long as I leave the AA off and the 3D resolution at 100%

EDIT: Anywho I wonder what features will come with this apache?

Its all well and good having a huge 1.05 update that will distract us with a new campaign and free apache (which you could probably get in the addon section of arma sites anyway) but what about some of the unfixed problems we are still waiting on for certain buggy missions and general stability of the game. Having a new campaign will more than likely open a new door of problems for unfinished and untested missions that get thrown out in the patch only for us to ask for a newer patch to fix problems in the new campaign. Remember, meeting deadlines and rushing games out doesn't always go in your favor and throwing in a patch with a new campaign to distract us again won't hold back the complaints for long when even newer problems arise

Does the trailer showing a new campaign and a chopper somehow cancel out the rest of the fixes?

Remember, the beta patches also affect the campaign. I finished mine some time ago without a single glitch. Don't get stuck on old bad memories. So do yourself a favor and try the beta patches. A new campaign and quality Apache are more than welcome rather than just "distraction".

BIS is doing great job, there are way too many companies out there that charge for a few tweaks and missions for their consolesque crap games. BIS is one of the few die-hard PC game developers not cutting corners for consoles. They deserve our support.

The word "beta" seems to frighten many people. That's why so many think so many things haven't been fixed, and won't be fixed.

What do you think they've been doing on the beta patch forums for the past two months? Testing and building 1.05. If you look on the User Mission forums, Eagle Wing is there and it appears to be primarily the work of a single dev.

And the enemy rarely sees you through plants. Just occasionally through a mountain, half a town, and an entire forest.

I´ve been running most of the beta patches, and performance has significantly improved already. I think it´d be unfair to call the added content a "distraction".

As for the Campaign, I´m really thrilled about this twist, even though I was kind of looking forward rolling out the DKMM Comanche for this. Something I noticed, though, which would strike me as kind of prophetic if it´s already been there: http://ew.moricky.com/en/download/

The box for the Campaign itself says 1.05. I don´t remember if this had been that way before. Anybody got a screenshot of the site from, like, 5 months ago or something? :p

I´m completely on edge about this. New beta has been released too. http://www.arma2.com/beta-patch.php

This obvious and steady progress to see with BIS is somehow pretty rewarding to look at, even though if my only participation so far in it is by playing the results.

Very good ones, at that.

I hope they weren't planning on using *that* rah-66 model. From that media, the Rah-66 model looks quite inferior to the standard of the rest of the ArmA 2 artwork- the most obvious sign is the wobbling main rotor.

According to Morricky, Eagle Wing is an elite Marines Aviation unit- and apparently when they aren't flying Commanches, they're taking to the skies in Apache Longbows.

Have I missed something or has someone announced that the patch will not introduce further optimization?

What kinds of expectations do you have? The game has video options so that you can find a suitable setting to run the game at a good frame rate. I'm running the game with the specs you can see in my sig and while it looks and runs like shit, it's far far far below the minimum requirements. I'd be extatic to have a PC that you claim to run other games smoothly at the highest settings.

Yes well you'll notice even people with Quad Core machines are complaining. As for my specs here it is for the millionth time -

E6600 Core 2 Duo

Nvidia 9800GTX+

2GB RAM

Win XP SP3

That's above ARMA 2's so-called minimum requirements I believe.

Yeah, and being above the minimum or even recommended requirements means that you should be able to run the game flawlessly? Neither of them say "Requirements to run the game flawlessly". Use the recommended ones as a base for building your PC, not going below that spec. It doesn't mean it'll run perfectly.

Your setup isn't all that great either. The E6600 is fairly old by what's out today, your 9800 GTX is nothing special compared to the GTX 2xx series cards, and 2GB RAM, again, is nothing special. Sure, you'll run mainstream corridor shooters like Far Cry 2 or MW2 at full settings with great FPS, but not games like ArmA II. You simply can't expect the same performance.

For reference, I run on the following:

Windows XP Professional SP3

Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 @ 3.00GHz

nVIDIA GeForce GTX 280 1GB

2GB DDR2 RAM

And get 40 to 60 FPS most of the time. Changes depending on what's on screen, of course. In ArmA, I got over 100 FPS. Give it time, and it'll be the same with ArmA II.

*That* RAH-66 is the venerable DKMM Comanche :P Which originally was released in 2002 (I think) as an addon for OFP:CWC.

I don´t know if the model has been updated since then, though I think not, which explains the level of quality. It was (and still is) a fantastic addon to the original OFP, because of the level of attention that was paid to its features.

I think that it´s an addon made by one of the Community´s addon teams is the prime reason, along with its age, that we´re getting the Apache instead. I don´t mind either. 8)

As InstaGoat said, that rah-66 model was made by dkkm team in the good old ofp days, front my point of view, would be a nice surprise if BIS include the original model with the new patch :)

oooh this is pretty awesome. now that we have ACE2 with Army units/armor all we needed was an Apache--done!

i do wonder how an air based campaign will work. seeing as there is no counter-measure system in place, a lone dude with a stinger could put you out of action. and i dont think taking the fight to the enemy with an mp5 (aka throwing spit-wads) would be very effective :P

definitely looking forward to this though.

Pleanty of addons/scripts that use countermessures, including RKSL flares addon pack.

i am aware of those. my point being that this is an official patch for vanilla arma 2. that means thousands of gamers who got it off steam and never bother to check the forums or armaholic wont know about mods. i just think it'll be difficult to implement that's all. i'm inclined to believe that it will rock, but i'm curious how they'll make it work

Cool, the eagle wing teaser even made it onto gametrailers!

But yeah, the whole thing looks cool and I am looking forward to the patch, but since I cant fly for crap, i cant play the new campaign :p
