i have a Q? Buying Units for my team members?

Recommended Posts

sometimes i keep getting hit with popup hints, and it said i can buy units for my units. left me puzzled when i tried this because when i selected '2' and then whatever number it was? 7 i think? buy units... it only added to my list.

how does this work?

You Mean in Warfare?

I think I had it figured out a while ago, I´m gonna re-check. I´ll update this once/if I find it out again.

(Edit) Yeah, I got it. It´s a bit difficult and only works if you´re the actual commander. This is the only way I found to do this, so if there is an easier one, tell it to me

Anyway, here´s what you do: Buy Units (Who get assigned to your own team). Then bring up High Command, check who needs reinforcements, and then switch back to normal Command, select the Units you want to assign to another commander, and go trough the following sequence: 0 (Comms) - 9 (Communication) - 8 (Send Units). Then you select the number of the other Commander you want to assign your Units to.

As far as I could see in the SP Warfare Games I played, the AI does not replenish their Units themselves, instead they just grind themselves down, respawn and do an individual rush.

The Interface of Warfare is also pretty terrible, not just because you need to switch between HC and normal command to compare data, but also because you need to personally show up everywhere to set the City Settings, for example.

I love this mode, though, as it reminds me of Battlezone, which I loved too. So I hope that this will get improved too at some point in the patching process.

I hope this was helpful.

Cheers

Me thinks that would work, but...

InstaGoat maybe onto something though with his explanation.

Actually, I´ve just noticed that it indeed is possible to tell your team members near the base to buy units (constructing buildings should work too) when they´re inside the base, using the action menu (6).

pretty neat, you just have to remember who is in the base so you don´t accidentially reassign them.

I am not familiar with the high command in ArmA II. However, why not asssign units to teams Red, Blue, green.. etc. That way you can order them around as groups.

might be best to select '2' as the base junkie

i cant work out the color groups, ie when i assign color teams i can't seem to select that color and send them off its either all or individually. i simply dont know how to select the colored teams seperate.

Neh, Warfare is a little more complicated than that. Vote yourself to commander. Once you won the vote, hit ctrl + space (switches to high command mode). This will replace the Units of your squad with the Units of your army. Arma supports anything up to a Army group, as far as I know (4 Regiments.). That is, as a symbol, not as an entity limit.

Once you´re in HC mode, you can send your Units around the map. The control interface for that is really badly explained in the tutorial scenario, though.

For example, you select a Unit, go to the map, and give it a waypoint by clicking left. Ctrl + left click to generate a chain of waypoints. Right click on a waypoint to bring up the waypoint interface (there you can assign waypoint type, speed, modes etc.)

It´s really cool, apart from being partially broken. The "radio command" triggers don´t work when you try to use them in the Editor (just with the HC module), so you can´t coordinate attacks by setting everybodies waypoints up first and then having them execute your plan by radio command.

http://community.bistudio.com/wiki/High_Command Biki page

It also explains how to set up the radio for the afforementioned waypoints, but I´ve yet to figure out where to put those (External script? Trigger init box? Unit init box?)

As for the assigning units, once you have checked the Unit number in HC, you revert back to normal Command, select the members of your squad you want to reassign, and do the 0 - 9 - 8 procedure, and select the appropriate number.

It took me ages to figure this out (and lots of frust playing the warfare SP missions), but it´s such a cool concept that in itself would warrant me buying Arma 2 a second time on its own, if it would be anywhere near being polished, which it is not. Like I said, it´s like Battlezone, but infinitely expandeable and in the real world. :D

Edit: Oh, and the City Menu is easy: Logistics is the amount of Money it generates, Defense is how many Defenders that location spawns on its own (never more than the set value.) I think already spawned Units won´t get removed if you lower the Defense value in favour of higher logistics, but if the Units get killed, the location will eventually be left undefended. As commander you get the lion´s share of the money generated by towns, if I´ve analyzed this correctly.
