Leaves are one thing and a lot depends on what AI you are using too. I've had a spec ops team get in pistol range at night (with lots of careful stealth) with nothing but africa foliage for cover.

I appreciate the reply. Though it does not depend on what AI is being used. It is within the realms of possibility, but i doubt there is even an AI available that could perform such a feat. What would be the point?

I have tested it with Zeus AI and Vanilla. Getting within pistol range at night in TAKISTAN (cover = hardly any) is pretty easy if you know what your doing.

Just as pwnage_51 has re-iterated above, i would like to do the same;

I have spent about 2 weeks working on a mission in Lingor. All the testing went fine, though i did notice that the AI were very quick off the mark. Another member of my group actually said "wow, there must be something about this map", which was in reference to the AI's spotting ability. (skill + unit count was tweaked, one problem always remained...)

Suffice to say, we cannot play this map. I have reduced the amount of AI as far as im willing to go, any less wouldnt be a 20 man job. SPG-9's and DSHkM's are brutal, as in they can accurately engage you through thick bush. This dense foliage, which im quite sure doesnt have any viewblocks, is only useful for a PvP match.

I believe the only things that are viewblocked are the large tree trunks.

I would prefer some type of confirmation from the author AND i would rather not side-track the official Lingor thread as the problem, if there is one, is with the foliage.

For the moment i will not be making any missions in Lingor and i will be pointing out to other mission makers that i play with; not to use Lingor for the moment.

Berghoff if it helps you this is what i see in my .log file.

I get similar errors.

Could this be related to the visblock problem?

Thanks for continuing to work on this Berghoff! I know you wanted to retire from working on plants but your african foliage is like no other... and my tiny island couldn't even exist without it!

Now as I have switch to latest African Foliage version for Tropica,

I am getting a error about a missing "buk_kmen.paa" file.

I know it's an ArmA texture, but I don't know which plant is needing it.

I am wondering if it is related to African Foliage update or to one of the last BIS patches

Do you have some hint about this ?

Awesome mate. This is the only reason we're not playing the R6 campaign on Lingor. IIRC this problem also strikes Isla Duala...

Let us know if we can help you in any way!

Are you sure its the foliage and not the game itself?

Yes, it's definitely not the AI. This doesn't happen with other trees or bushes. All you have to do is place down the AI on one side of the foliage and put yourself on the other. They will see you right through it.

It has been roughly a month since i asked for confirmation on whether the foliage is with or without viewblocks. I never asked for a fix.

A simple yes/no will suffice.

Thankyou.

(PS-If anyone knows of a program that can ascertain if there are viewblocks (or not) then ill do it myself. I WAS hoping the author could just recall from memory.....)

* RESURRECT! *

I too am getting this error, on another island. Wouldn't mind to see it hunted down, beaten into small pieces and then set alight, Berghoff, if you've got the time.

I am very busy with school, so sorry for the long delay.

Yea, maybe a long break should do the trick. Still have some things left I want to do.
I get similar errors.

I don't get those errors, which Island are you using?

I am getting a error about a missing "buk_kmen.paa" file.

Will look into this one, maybe some sort of left-over.

Testing the new version now, does anyone have a test mission without addons that shows the AI can see through objects? Right now after a couple of runs through Lingor I didn't notice a problem that the AI could spot me through foliage from 2m away.

Thanks Berghoff, you'll get my report in few hours time.

About the missing buk_kmen A1 tex, this plant uses it:

brg_jungle_tree_oldtwisted.p3d

Thats the reason I didn't use it in Lingor. My bad if I didn't report that back to you.

Taken from Lingor 1.2 changelog;

incorporated new African Foliage 1.24t2 by Berghoff (AI now doesn't have any advantage over human players)

Does this refer to what i was asking about previously?

That is correct. You can grab this release from ArmedAssault.info. AI doesn't see through the foliage anymore, much better. Test it on Lingor ;)

p.s. Both Isla Duala 1.95 and Lingor 1.3 feature this 1.24t2 version.

I must add that Berghoff has not released this addon publicly but send it to some map-maker, so IceBreaker is using it on 2 of his great maps IslaDuala and Lingor, I used it myself on Tropica last version.

This version is a test version as the full name of the addon is showing : brg_africa_1.24_test2.

This addon can be used to update previous African Foliage version without any issue on all map using it.

Of course, as I know the work done by Berghoff in order to correct the "IA magical sighting" issue I have paid much attention during all games played by my game team, the Clan ADO on Tropica and Tigeria -publicly unreleased- and it seems to work. I am saying it seems as some kill always came from nowhere, but as on my maps, I am using a VanillaBIS/Berghoff mix it's really difficult to have certitude.

I only hope Berghoff will release a definite new version with v2 sign.

The link is working for me ...but you must set your preferences to Arma 2 by clicking on Arma 2 button, I know it's not very explicit but ... it's how it works ATM ...

so after clicking on Arma 2, try :

African foliage for ArmA II (v 1.24_t2)

I would like to remind you that some portals (and I believe sixupdater, too) use an old version of brg_africa. Even this topic is not updated to the final version, since Berghoff took a leave until A3 ;)

You can get the latest brg_africa from Lingor Island v1.4 Lite that will be released today.

It seems that V2 signature didn't work with his key, so I've resigned the key so you can use it on V2 checking dedicated servers from now on.
