Modern Irish Defence Forces Mod

Recommended Posts

(daniel not getting at you mate sorry to post below you with my rant). Either way that is that.

Ha, no worries, i was basing my knowledge on an ArmA1 mod...

Still think the helmet could use some modifying, that last pic you posted shows it's much thicker than the ArmA2 model given.

Just comparing these:

For some reason I feel helmets really define soldiers in BIS games.

Best of luck with them!

I might be able to take the lip off in O2...I am also going to change the helmet normals which will make a big difference. Again this was WIP just some shots for St Patrick's day wasn't meant to cause such a stir.

Welcome to the BIS forums, mate! lol :p ;)

I think they're coming along fine, given any current obstacles, etc. Besides, anything is better than nothing. I'm personally getting sick of all the US/Russian stuff everywhere. It's nice to change things up a bit once in awhile. :D

Have you checked out militaryphotos.net? There you can find a lot of quality reference photos. IDF (Irish and Israeli), Canada, Danish, Dutch, Belgian, US, Brit, etc. Just takes a bit of time going through to find the thread and then more to go through it all (some can go up to a hundred or more pages). If not, check it out, mate. :)

Everything from the 80s to present. Including some course photos of blokes in a typical Irish training situation (In a forest of course) in the newest kit.

Blink, I am fully aware of what the new kit looks like. And I appreciate the work that goes into making units look unique. But I think it would be an awful waste of all your effort to release something that looks generic.

But you say it anyway.

Yes I did. Because generally it's better to be honest with people rather than lying and doing them a disfavour in the process.

cheers imshi, the only thing about those is the reservist photos that have old webbing/helmets

we have got the new lowe alpine webbing(albeit needs a touchup) that you see

and although the body armour isnt used widely, i think a near future set up would us apart (AUG A2 + Elcan/m203 anyone ;) )

As I said there are photos of the new kit in there. On mp.net a bloke also took photos of all of the new kit as it was issued.

Also most of those photos aren't of reservists, the Vest and Lowe Backpack/Daysack and the RBH derived helmet all only came on stream for PDF Combat and Combat support arms at the end 2008/early 2009.

No reason to believe A2s will be adopted, and unless you're talking about the Spectre I don't see us buying into a sight that is already on its way to obsolescence.

Combat Service Support appointments in the PDF will only get the new Load carrying and PPE systems if they are deploying o/seas.

@ Uncle Imshi

Normally I am a quiet observer on this forum but I feel I should put the record straight on the issue of clothing and equipment of the MODERN Irish Defence Forces

@ Uncle Imshi

No reason to believe A2s will be adopted

The move was pursued last year with the intention of updating the IDF to modern standards in terms of section level equipment. On the report it was not only the A2 that was mentioned as a candidate for updating but also the A3.

However this will not be implemented for the foreseeable future as we must await on the decision of NATO as to whether or not adopt a new intermediate cartridge, revert to 7.62 or keep 5.56.

But it is the INTENTION that this mod crew are working on. While we will not use A2's soon, or maybe even ever. The INTENTION is there that should NATO decide to keep 5.56 for the next 10 or so years, the IDF would be upgraded to A2's or maybe A3's depending on costs.

@ Uncle Imshi

and unless you're talking about the Spectre I don't see us buying into a sight that is already on its way to obsolescence.

Buying???? We already have ELCAN scopes, a lot of them. When we take part in CISM shooting competitions we give them to the team. So naturally if we updated to A2's all these unused scopes sitting in stores would be the first choice to put on the A2 and give it to a qualified marksman.

@ Uncle Imshi

I hate to say it. But to me they just don't look like Irish Soldiers of any stripe.

They look very well for a WIP if you ask me.

The camo pattern is almost perfect.

The body armour is very similar.

Apart from the rim on the helmet its the same issue helmet, as we use the RBH-303IE and the regular troops on arma 2 use the RBH-303 classic (Its the same series of helmet!)

There is no IPLCS vest model made for the mod yet so the texture artist had to use the force recon assault vest models and reskin them to irish dpm over the Body Armour.

Apart from the helmet and assault vest (which are not yet made), these are good representatives of the modern IDF, maybe if you look at it again, closer and without a chip on your shoulder you would think twice about that comment you made. Because Im glad to say it, that this mod is coming along very well.

@ The_blink

the only thing about those is the reservist photos that have old webbing/helmets

That is not entirely correct Blinky, there are some pics of the new gear on it. Most of the pics however are just out of date pics of the permanent soldiers with the old gear on them that was passed down to the reservists. Easy mistake to make.

And finally I would like to pick a massive hole in one of your statements which makes me seriously doubt the credibility of everything you have said so far....

@ Uncle Imshi

Combat Service Support appointments in the PDF will only get the new Load carrying and PPE systems if they are deploying o/seas

I am Combat Service Support.

I have the new load carrying and PPE (PPE is the incorrect term, the correct term is CPE (Combat Protective Equipment)) and so does ALL my colleagues in all the different logistics units. Every soldier has been issued it since the DFR's (Defence Forces Regulations) stated that you are no longer fit for duty if you dont have the new IPLCS equipment.

Even the fat armourer that sits in his car all day watching sandbags do range practices has it.

So unless you have an educated or constructive opinion, keep them to yourself.

Keep up the good work IDF Mod team, we're behind you all the way!!!

I had a constructive opinion, I said they didn't look very like Irish soldiers, I didn't have a break down. I gave my opinion.

Not sure why you feel the need to interpret that as an attack. I'm aware of the shooting teams having access to Elcans but do they really have enough to re-equip all PDF combat units without significant additional purchasing.

As to the new kit, when it was being brought on stream it was stated in the PR blurb that it was for combat units. I haven't looked at dress or H&S regs because it doesn't affect me. That may have changed in the last eight months as I've been out of action.

You seem to have a bee in your bonnet about "sandbags" deigning to comment.

I have experience of modding for this game and as I have stated before I would like this team to succeed where I didn't.

Therefore I don't just sit around saying "Oh it's very good" when I don't believe it is and think it's possible for them to do better.

imshi i appreciate opinions about our mod, i know you have helped out in the past and i am really thankfull but i feel you took your comments to far when you said " they dont lokk like irish soldiers in any stripe"

they do for a WIP, like aeneas said, "it was only a video for paddys day". I know they aren't 100% right(hence the WIP),

i think Hydropump is right about the elcans, we wont need more than we have since they would be more than likely given to skilled shooters.

the new kit, whether your worng or right about the kit only being given to soldiers overseas, the fact is that the mod is based on troops overseas and possible near future deployments.
