When creating a .pbo file you have an option to compress various files, such as .pac, .paa, .sqm/.sqs etc. Of course in certain cases this may impact game performance, but it's an option.

This would interest me a lot because my island that I'm making is a bit demanding, what files would impact game performance and should they we compressed or decompressed.

I assume that .pac and.paa files would affect loading the most and .p3d would affect in game performance. But once an island is loaded it loads it self in to the RAM so how would it affect performance?

Well, from my experience compressed pbo size in a normally compressed folder (rar or zip or wtf) = uncompressed pbo size in a normally compressed folder. This means that : if the pbo is compressed, the .rar or .zip process will not compress them much more. So it isn't an advantage for the uploading / downloading process.

Secondly, compressed pbo are uncompressed before the beginning of the mission, so using them will only rise the mission loading time, but not harm the performance during the mission.
