Modern Warfare 2

More or less all of mine do.

I find it hard work. I don't want to battle with Steam when I want to play a game. And since I usually have to in some way, I just don't play the games I've paid for.

When it all works, although it is a great palava, I am left thinking, ah well at least it works... at elast I can play on LAN...

And then the next time I try it is all fucked up again.

It's a pity because LEFT4Dead is the kind of game you just want to play quickly for 20 minutes for an intermission.

But it's Steam, so I can't.

Probably ended up wasting £30 on 2 hours of fun. I tjhink I'll avoid Steam games from now on. But Red Orchestra 2!

You know what I mean. I want it to work, I really do. But it's not anything like as user friendly as games used to be, or ArMA is for example.

I've used steam since 2003 and 99,99% of the time it has worked perfectly.

Ohhh right. But still, i think its a bit too much fantastic to have all the story around a "renegade general", i would prefered a more terrorist/international conflict story, like MW1 did

I know I'm a couple of days late in this reply, but...

wasn't Guba also a renegade general in the original OFP?

Sorry for being slightly off-topic but I'm very curious. Why do you have 4 PCs in LAN like that? Do you have 3 other local friends that visit to play frequently? Shouldn't they contribute their money towards it too? You're rather lucky if that is the case as I don't know anyone near here who owns any of the OFP/ARMA series or plays any games more serious than COD.

Well I used to have one pc and me and my friends took turns in playing. Then a friend brought another pc and we started our first MOH and COD games locally since I didn't have internet back then. Then some other friend decided to buy a new pc and added his old one to the collection and so on and so forth I ended up with a lot of machines and we got used to playing like that. Then I sold those pcs to other people and bought three new identical ones for LAN since I had complains from the person playing on the oldest system. I didn't need my friends to contribute in any way, as it wasn't something I couldn't afford really...

I also have a laptop for people to browse the internet while the rest of us play.

I will probably buy another three new ones (since my pc is good enough as it is) next year, but for the time being all four of them can play Arma2 and the COD series, pretty fucking good.

Now you can understand why I am kinda pissed off for not having a LAN choice in MW2. And why it pisses me off MW2 doesn't have player profiles.

There are around 4 to 12 people here everyday for the last 8 years and they all play... Can you imagine how annoying it is to have to reconfigure everything everytime you want to play?

And just for the record, my shortcuts for MW2 still don't work. I must say that I am beggining to not give a shit about it.

It has to be something specific to MW2 as others have stated.

I don't own MW2 so I can't test to be sure, but I can disable my lan completely and of my entire library of steam games I can start all of them up without being connected to the web.

lol...only when you give it.

Besides, if you ask many people in the world, it is no longer clear that America is the world's good guy anymore, so there is a parallel.

That's awesome, I'd love to come over and chill with you guys and play these games face to face with someone. It sounds like your not short on cash and have been able to upgrade frequently (can I take the older ones off your hands!?). Why don't you get 3 xbox360s as well so that you have no issues when playing CODMW2 since you are getting the same thing with the PC.

FYI, CODMW2 LAN was a known feature to be taken out before launch. Sorry about your troubles IW really screwed over players like you.

this one is empty

so is this one

haha, this is the third time now

ok fine, I'll stop

indeed, but CoD4 is in another dimension altogether. One where you can sneak a navy past several countries and fly an il-76 to the US...and he rebeled to cover up his involvement in an undercover operation and something to do with patriots. It's really stupid, it just doesn't make sense. Why would he want to cover up his tracks for an undercover operation? Since when do people who send people on undercover operations get killed? The operation failed, there's nothing more he could've done. He could only be seen as a good guy because he tried to infiltrate makarovs organisation to destroy it, but because the stupid plot required a war,...you see, no point in trying to unravel the plot and make it look like it has sense

dirty boy

Come on it's not about not being short on cash. I mean I am 33 years old and I have a job, I just don't spend much on other stuff.

And I don't like consoles that much I am afraid. I have a playstation under the tv but I have never played with it. I am not sure how to turn it on to be honest. Sometimes my friends play some football games on that while some of us play Arma, since Arma missions last more than a few matches of COD. :)

Anyway, I am too old to leave my keyboard and mouse habbit!

And I swear I had no idea about the no LAN policy. I heard about the dedicated servers thing though but I didn't think it would be a problem.

Anyone else notice they have removed the zoom on the ACOG sights? Probably to balance it better with the Aimpoint and Eotech.

I like the production values though. Theres just no sense of accomplishment. At least with the Call of Juraez 2 game you had a half-good story to follow.

If I understood the "plot" correctly, he in fact leaked you to Makarov. He wanted to provoke a war with Russians so he could kick their asses and get internal peace or something for losing 30,000 men due to the nuke from MW1.

Yup, it makes no friggin' sense

but I thought Makarov sniffed him out himself. Hmm, I'll have to replay that mission and the last one.

Epic game is epic. Has the most fun, over the top action campaign of any game to date. Obviously not as intelligent as half life 2, but much more hollywood and cool.

Multiplayer still remains imo, the best multiplayer shoot em up ever made. It is very fun and addictive. Super unrealistic, but super fun.

One thing that absolutely baffles me about the campaign however:

Since when the f*ck does an undercover U.S operative infiltrate a russian gang, by commiting mass genocide and killing a few thousand civilians? I mean, WTF???

the general that cooked the whole thing up sent him there, it took me a while to figure it out as well

the game has its fun parts but i am hating the mp...i swear the game has more campers than counter strike except in counter strike it was strategy....in this it is people hiding in little nooks....i have never seen map layouts that catered to this style of gameplay in any other game

with that said i think calling them campers is a compliment because campers typically watch an area of importance and deny passage...the people on this are just hiding...only they they are denying passage to is the corner they are backed into and the only strategy is someone going by that didnt check all 50 nooks for pussies

Yup i totally agree. I sometimes have to do this or my k/d ratio gets destroyed, but usually i find a nice area where it is hard for me to get flanked, and then i mow down anemies as they sprint from their base, and towards me. After a few kills i move on to a new location.

But i always get raped by some 9 year old hiding in a dark lonely corner, just before a kill streak. When i look at the score board, in a 10 minutes game, the kid has only 2 kills, and about 20 deaths.

But other than that, i love mp!

Has no one realized how odd it is that a General in the US Army is apparently upset about the loss of 30,000 of his men, who, if they were the ones who died in COD4's nuclear explosion, were USMC and therefore not under his command?

That leads me to believe it's not related to that, but something else. Perhaps something more related to the Russians.

does anyone know how to change the NAT type to Open?

Port forwarding. Can't check which one right now since I'm not at home, but I'm pretty sure it was UDP in the 28xxx range. Alternatively you could simply enable UPnP on your router, but it may be a security issue.

Maybe there was Army deployed as well?

Or maybe the story just has more holes than a rusty colander

I'm loving this game and I can't wait to get home and play some MP...some things that are getting to me though:

-No Leaning, It's a sick fact that COD1 had leaning and multiple fire modes (burst/singleshot) that is taken out of this game. But no leaning is really killing me. I hate that I have to very smartly round the corners. And these corners are camper love fests. I wish I had a lean so I can poke out and check it out. I use flashbangs to round major corners but that only allows me two corners of safety. Other than that, it is just hope and pray

-Campers, I'm just mad because they get the annoying cheap shot off. I actually don't mind this that much though because I realize this slows the game down. Now that people are learning the maps they are learning the best hiding places. Props to them for taking me down...no matter how, it is just frustrating. The fact is though, I get more kills by moving around the map in a smart manner than those idiots sitting in a dark corners hoping to get 8x kill streak but are in last place....camping is annoying but acceptable.

In the end i"m having so much fun with this game...plus I found out yesterday how to mute everyone at once instead of one-by-one...a God send :)

I did enable the UPnP, but still shown Strict!!

The matchmaking is total garbage. Im yet to play a game with under 180ping. Watching kill-cam, it never correlates what just happened on my screen.

Forwarding ports, enabling UPnP? LOL IWnet was supposed to take the "problems" of using a confusing server browser away. now they expect people to do that. Fail!

Bring back DEDICATED SERVERS FFS

I dont think IW.net is too bad, well at least not like what people (haters) make of it, I always play with 70-100ping, and its fine, am sure with more patches, updates, it will fix the problems

I still dont know whether this NAT type thing actually affects the matchmaking in public serves? if so, how?
