New and had a few questions.

Recommended Posts

So I bought the game the other night, and seems I find more entertainment, making my own missions and such with the editor that came with it. The only thing is Im having a few problems, or dont even know if its possible to do, here are some of the things Im wondering if is possible or not.

Static smoke flares...like a constant smoke going on, at a certain spot in the battle...

Explosions from artillery or something hitting specific spots in the battle

fires, burning objects...

Now, those are just static objects I wanted to put inside a city or something in a mission.....

Next, when making a mission, i place a C130, but it does nothing really, except roll until it gets stuck, can you parachute out of it, or have cargo drop or something? Seems none of my air vehicles do anything but sit on the ground, while my armor ones ignore my commands.

Last, I saw a video a while back on youtube, where someone placed an IED and the other team drove past and it blew up, how is that done? The problems I find are......

I cant find an IED at all, anywhere,

second, How do i make the AI, get in a vehicle and drive a certain path?

It seems alot when I make missions and test em, the AI is just standing there, except mybe if i run in there, shoot one and stand by others, then they shoot at me..

Anyway, Id appreciate any help at all, I am updated to the current patch and everything..

Thank you

Shawn

There is no such thing as an IED. What you saw was a generic satchel charge.

Most of those objects are placed just like soldiers in the editor, under the category Empty that pops up after you place a Player.

For the other questions, you should learn about Waypoints on some online guide. They are very easy to use. You can make units more alert using them as well.

What you are asking really is "How do I use the editor?" and I wish I had one answer for that.

There are button commands on the right of the screen. One is called waypoints. Place a squad on your map and then click on waypoints, click on your leader to select him and then double click on the map somewhere. Preview the map and the squad will move from the initial position the the one you set. When you double click on the map you can choose HOW the squad will move (walking, running, in battle mode etc) by selecting the behavior from the drop down lists.

Same goes with a vehicle. Put a squad and a truck, click on the leader and give him a waypoint right on the truck. Then select "get in" from the dropdown and, "move" to some other point and then "get out" on some other point on the map.

Preview and your squad will board the truck move for a distance and then disembark at your final destination.

The editor is very simple as long as you know how to do these things.

For example: You want a squad (or a unit) to patrol casually up and down the street.

Set your unit in your preferred starting position. Select waypoints, click on leader or unit, double click in the end position and select "move". Then you fiddle with the behavior and set it as "safe" and the speed to "limited". Then double click on your unit again and set a "cycle" waypoint. The unit or squad with start moving slowly with weapons lowered back and forth for ever.. or until you attack them or something.

Also be sure to put different side units if you want to see them fight. In the case of Independent and Bluefor units the default is that they are friendly towards each other which means you have to click on the map properties (where you set the weather, date and time conditions) and set independent as hostile towards everybody.

Planes should preferably be set to "flying" instead of "in formation" or "in cargo" since it's kind of hard to have them take off by themselves. Helicopters have no problems in that regard. Waypoints work with helicopters fine. You can tell them where to go and where to land and get out just as you would with walking units.

Just experiment.

I looked through the forums even more, along with armaholic, but have yet seen how to put smoke and random fires on things. I know theres camp fires and barrels, but like If i want to put a constant burning fire on a car, or have a constant flow of smoke from something.

Also, is it possible to make an agressive set of units, that run at you to attack, except without weapons? Using theyre hands or something...

Welcome areonic

You should head over to the mission making forum to get more info.

For burning objects you can set demage to 1. That will make them explode on mission start. They will burn for a while. (I hope you are using JTD Fire&Smoke ;))

Haven't tested but this should work to make a basic IED in a car by the road.

-Place a car next to a road and give it name "car"

-Make a trigger that activates when US are present and put it in the middle of the road next to the car. In the activation text window put: car setdamage 1

This should make the car explode whe US (soldier and vehicles) are next to it.
