ARMA II now wonderful...after an HD5870 and i7-920!

Recommended Posts

I'm running ArmA2 with this specs:

Intel Core i7 860 @ 3,8 (HT on)

OCZ Dominator 2000 mhz memory (dual chan)

Ati 5870

2x Intel x25-m SSD @ raid 0

I CANT run everything on HIGH without uhh lag.. fps 10/20 or something

Btw with HIGH you mean fillrate 200% ? Cause i need massive AA :P

for U

you need shut off HT !

then you not get lags.... i`m understand you

you have good fps but with lags (HT off ......)

and i saw vid

i7 920 4.0Ghz

HD5870 Sappire

and every thing on very high with 60FPS

try to download the OC from GPU !

My PC died as a result of me trying to play this game. There was a mishap while I was changing out my power supply to accomodate a better graphics card. Now I need a new motherboard, CPU, and graphics card as well.

Oh well... My system was about four and a half years old anyhow. It was time for it to go.

I suppose you can say that I am building a system specifically to run this game. It's slow going, but I hope to have something up and running within the next few months. Money is a factor.

He didn't look before he lept. Probably bad switchology or ESD damage. I'm glad I learned my lesson about taking tweaking too far or without enough information back when I was a kid and my computer was a old Pentium.

Well at the moment you are pretty right about the fps.

I clocked my 860 to 4.2 ghz and i see improvements. But still massive drops on fillrate 200%.. and yes i play 1.4 i just call it fillrate ;p

(not stable yet sometimes the screen turns complete gray, any idea?)

That was not the only thing, i had a second gpu installed (Nvidia 6800) for s-video output (cause i dont have hdmi/displayport on my tv) but because of this my PCI-E slots were running at 8x speed! DUMPDUMP i know. So now that card is out :P

the 8x PCI-E is no issue at all. you wont use all the bandwidth with one card EVER. As for 200Fill... thats kinda wack unless it is setting it at 1900/1200, If you think you can run A2 @ higher than that with "max settings" and 60fps steady it isnt going to happen. Or you VD needs to be 700m AND still in citys you will lagg. I have 4870X2s One is = to a 5870~ So i have basicly two 5870s...

I know for a fact you will never get good frames with VD over 3000m And 3D res at 2048/1536 and max setting on the rest. Soo i bet your 3D/fill is over 2048/1536....

I run 100% and use "normal AA" (4Xaa) with 16X AF in the CCC, 1940/1400, and 2048/1536, 20fps to 90fps(i use a 21inCRT) in game and smooth 50s~ in the big citys when playing the in game SP.

I do use 200%fill then its with AA off, and when your in the 4000/3000 rez... its kinda slow.. duh! ( also hint, any VD over 4000m,3600m~ will set your terrain detail to normal)

i7@4.1 , 6Gb 1500 , 2X 4870X2

Well, meybe your 2x 4870x2 are faster than his 5870 in crysis or some other multi gpu optimized game, but im damn shure his single 5870 is faster than all yours in arma2.

HAF 922 case with 2 side fans added

i7 920@3.6 SLBEJ DO (had it at 3.8 no probs but summer is coming to Perth)

Mugen2 air cooler with 2 push pull fans exhausting to rear case exhaust fan

Rampage Extreme 2 with latest bios (got it cheap!)

6gb Corsair TR3X6G1600C7 7-7-7-20 @1330mhz

ATI 4870x2

Corsair TX850W PSU

WD 300gb Velocity Raptor, WD 36gb VR for virtual mem file

Most of my settings are high and AA is off. It doesnt drop below 40fps even in towns with AI and MP but im not sure about Chenergorsk which apparently gives the biggest probs. I only did some brief testing after the pc assemble and OC. soz

I noticed big improvements when the 920 got past 3ghz and when the ATI 9.7 and later drivers came out.

I'm not sure. A wire may have gotten touched that shouldn't as I was changing out my power supply to accomodate a better graphics card. Whatever the case, it's a excuse to build a new PC. ;)

This is what I'm packin.

Kingston 4gb 1066 RAM kit

CPU: AMD Phenom II Quad Core 3.2ghz

MB: Gigabyte 790FX-UD5P (2XPCIE)

GFX: Sapphire ATI HD4890 Vapor 1gb

I get 40-50 fps.

When I'm in a city and there's a lot going on, it starts to chop out and if I zoom at the wrong time it freezes.

I turned down everything to high and turned off shadows and it's a bit better.

Very pretty game, love it.

Sorry what you said doesn't make sense. The 4870X2 does not scale well at in crossfire mode. Two 5870 in crossfire will outperform 4870X2 in crossfire.
