Need new Tank-Game

Recommended Posts

Hi BIS and Fans.

Maybe it is the wrong place, maybe not :D.

But BIS is the leading Producer of Military Simulations nowadays.

And I really want a Tankgame.

Do you remember back to M1A2? It was totally cool. I really would apreciate a Game in that manner with modern Graphics and Tech.

There are some Tankgames but most of them are real Aracadebased and not Simulationbased or WWII, and tbh, if I play any more WWII-Game I will throw up... :D.

There is another Tanksim but it is very expensive. Forgot the name actually and it is not designed as a "Game".

What do I expect, whats my idea?

  • Different settings from Desert to Western Terrain.
  • Simulationbased Actiongame. Just like ARMA.
  • Campaing with a Story just like OFP where I can follow whats going on.
  • New Multiplayer. Real Massive. Tanksquads of 8-16 Tanks. Up to 32 Tanks. (16 per Side) Each Tank needs 3 People. Commander, Driver, Gunner and one Commander with Satellite View like in BF2 per Side. Skip the Loader . Teamplay > all.
  • Different Tanks with different Missions-Types like detecting chemical Gas with the Fuchs Spürpanzer(1) or directing Artillery and Airstrikes with a ReconTank like Lynx or the new Fennek Armored Car.
  • Tactics like flanking etc must play a role.

Well.. that are my thoughts about that.. how do you think about it?

regards

The name of the game you forgot is probably Steel Beasts. Yes it is costly compared with a regular game(I think $125 for the version the public can buy)but it sounds like you don't want a regular game you want a sim?

It's not cutting edge graphics, but if it's the tank gameplay your more interested in check out their fan site http://www.steelbeasts.com/

No, the name was Microprose - M1 Tank Platoon II from 1998. It was the best Tank simulation to this time, had multiple campaigne from Lybia, Irak and Georgia to Germany. The games Handbook itself was worth the Money. And despite Steel Beast beeeing the better Simulation, M1 Tank Platton was the better Game, with its Crew micromanagement, Artillery and Command system.

Steel Beast actually copied and refined M1 Tank Platoon II.

Not really germane to a BIS specific forum so I'll move it to OT.

I wish someone would remake M1 Tank Platoon with modern sounds, graphics and UI. The detailed gunnery, damage models, crew management, support and campaign aspects were brilliant.

Then again, if someone remade it today, it would probably be for a console and the tanks would have regenerating HP.

The games Handbook itself was worth the Money./QUOTE]

Too true, apart from some mixups in the russian vehicles section the book was extremely intresting, still have it and take a look in it from time to time.

Game was great back then but i was young and stupid and usually ended up with lots of rockets flying towards me and loosing some of my valuable men.

You could have most of this with ArmA. A Dev of Graviteam (Steel Fury/Kharkov 1943) wrote that it's rather unlikely for an established Publisher to take on the risk of signing a PC tank simulation game these days. W/o SB Pro and military clients, there obviously wouldn't be an entertainment (Pe) version. :/

M1A2 Tank Platoon 2 was epic back in the day. "Wwwwwwe're not going anywhere!"

If the ArmA II engine was overhauled in the damage model area, it'd make a great basis for a TP2 style game.

I played Pacific Islands a lot on the Amiga in the old days. :D

What about Tiger vs. T34? It seems pretty good, I've yet to try it out, it's still pretty new in comparision of other tank games. And it supports 2DOF TrackIR too.

I've heard it has the same problems that Arma and WWIIONLINE suffer from. It's the nature of open scale warfare type games. The only real thing I heard the most complaints is trying to join an online game.

Other than that, the game seems pretty promising. I would be tempted to buy it if I knew more people that played it. Currently their website is frequented by Russians, which makes communication almost impossible.

It's a shame that tank games aren't well received, but no suprise there. What strikes me is that most modern milsim games come from Eurasia, America is falling behind in the sim scene. Lockon Aircombat comes from a Russian company just as IL-2.
