That guy 10 Posted October 14, 2009 for the campaign make it proper! the Russian Army vs the PLA leave that USMC sillyness behind us :D I mean really! they start building up this tension between Russian and China. .... and for some reason the USMC is here.... WTH? ???
Electricleash 133 Posted October 14, 2009 Maybe send fromz a pm see what he thinks, his units are looking awesome at the moment, but I see no island under development currently? Fromz PLA Mods ... then again i did see a comment in his thread: ArmA2: Dragon Rising? lol. Hell no.

WTH? ??? I agree that Russia is very unlikely to call upon the west for assistance, would rather fight its own war, although in the interests of most ARMA players they would probably like the US in there somewhere :)
Fortran 1 Posted October 15, 2009 Nice! Would be great to see this heightmap done some real justice...I mean with some actual forests, vegetation, towns and civvies. The CM version is just so barren its almost painful sometimes.
Defunkt 431 Posted October 15, 2009 I get the feeling Fromz wouldn't exactly see the DR plot as a particular motivation to get a wriggle on but it is a very good idea and would be a great use of his PLA assets. One might even see it as this community's (hopefully resounding) response to what's been done with the Flashpoint name, integrity should be the watchword and Russia must fight its own battle. eble 3 Posted October 15, 2009 I was going to say with the Chinese mods coming along, this would work really well. Lots of interesting opportunities. This is one map to watch :)
Binkowski 26 Posted October 15, 2009 The maps a bit small for my taste. Maybe if we upped it in size, and with the OH mod by FROMZ. That's be awesome.
Maddmatt 1 Posted October 15, 2009 I'm sure we can do better than copying the DR campaign ;) Would be awesome to have this map, maybe with more useful stuff on it like some villages and maybe one or two small cities (maybe cities are a bit much though). The one in DR seems too 'dead'.
Muahaha 10 Posted October 15, 2009 Definately will be better than DR... maybe include some easter eggs of DR just to tease CM? hahaha jk....
cannonouscrash 12 Posted October 15, 2009 Definately will be better than DR... maybe include some easter eggs of DR just to tease CM? hahaha jk.... No that works, You could have in say, a building, a model (train set esq) of the island with a battle going on(not animated) but with all units from DR and the USMC side holding a white flag ('we just cant do this crappy game') ^^ that in no way is a slur on the USMC for holding a white flag, Just the.. Ah screw it i give up with this game
yanquis 10 Posted October 15, 2009 this would be awesome, especially if its made sorta tropical like in OFP2 (i read kiska is actually closer to alaska & more to the north than OFP2 would have u believe). its a gorgeous island as rendered in the game but imo their engine doesnt really do it justice.
Heatseeker 0 Posted October 15, 2009 I think Kiska is a waste of time, the island is barren so i cant help but feel that there are better options out there. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kiska Its still more interesting than i thought though, there are sunken ships and lots of old equipment dumped by the Japanese and US during WW2. 9thAircav 0 Posted October 15, 2009 (edited) just to point out, its a 35 mile long island, this will fit into a 30 x 30km region, it cant be that full of this that and the next, or else it will grind to a halt, already 10km view distance IS an issue working at this size (currently 20x20km island) Edit - Fixed 10K is good to go :) draw distance in ofp is superior to that of arma2 because it doesnt render as much in between. part of me likes the baron feel along with the challenge of a faithfull reproduction. but this island is far to baron and needs enhanced as have the cm devs done. but this can only go so far due to the reasons above. one thing is the island will be green with lots of grass (and the other type:) ) and hopefully a more forrested feel unlike ofp,s sporadic placement of clumps of trees. we are aiming (not a definate) for seasonal changes on this island too. winter / summer Edited October 19, 2009 by 9thAircav
EricM 0 Posted October 15, 2009 Is there even a tree on the real island ? It all seems grass...

The one in DR seems too 'dead'. I agree with this. If you recreate it, just add more stuff to the island. I'm still shocked by CM's lack of effort with this island. There's barely anything on it. vasmkd 12 Posted October 15, 2009 I'm all for this, just keep the red barrels out ;)
mattxr 9 Posted October 15, 2009 Cool id like to see any new islands released so yeah crack on! cant wait to see how this project turns out.
arigram 0 Posted October 15, 2009 It is an excellent idea to recreate the island, not only for direct comparison with CM, but also to explore its full potential and even take it further with fictional small towns, an airstrip or two, more vegetation and detail which Arma 2 has more than enough assets to supply. The Amphibious Assault Ship could also be parked somewhere to provide an extra airstrip. A campaign could be done much better. For one, it could have all three major sides, US, Russian and Chinese, plus civilians and maybe guerrilla fighters as well. It also, could be played from all three sides, either switching in the middle of the story, or being played completely from a chosen side. Thus it could provide a more neutral political viewpoint and give the players variety and gameplay at least three times more than the official DR provided. And don't forget that in Dragon Rising, you can't make your own island and they don't have any mods. Yet at least.
W0lle 1050 Posted October 15, 2009 Me likes that idea. :) I would not recreate Skira 1:1 but atleast try to add the road network and villages. Otherwise it would be real boring. ;)
mcbane 0 Posted October 15, 2009 Has anyone ever made Wake Island for ArmA?
SaBrE_UK 0 Posted October 15, 2009 Good idea, would look really nice in the Arma2 engine.
AwesomeWalrus 0 Posted October 16, 2009 I about crapped myself when I saw exploding barrels in OFPDR. Moving Kiska to Arma 2 would do it quite a bit of justice. When you're playing in Chernarus in the campaign, there's a sense of a bigger world. You can really feel the difference between being in Vshnoye, and being in Chernogorsk; the diversity in the game between two seperate locations in done so beautifully that transitioning between those two seperate cities is seamless, even in aircraft. In OFPDR I would be flying around in the editor, the bloom giving me a headache, wondering exactly how they expected this island to come together. Maybe it's just because the system is so different in OFPDR, but I couldn't seem to really get attatched to my surroundings. Every mission seems like a COD level with better opportunities to flank the enemy, there's even scripted spawning since the engine won't allow more than 64 units on the map at a time! I imagine that Arma 2 will actually make this island seem like an island, rather than a location to have a random battle play out. That campaign made no sense, OFP's campaign was lightyears better, even if the actors sounded like they were at AA reading off a cue card. Didn't mean to get into a rant. This would be pretty sweet, so good luck!
AnimalMother92 10 Posted October 16, 2009 Has anyone ever made Wake Island for ArmA? +1 It seems ideal for an Arma 2 island I think Iwo Jima would be cool too
Richey79 10 Posted October 16, 2009 How much will you be charging for this DLC? - This looks like it would be a really sweet playground.
