Deadfast 43 Posted February 16, 2010 16/02 - Confirmation of no further patches or additional DLC So people's video cards will be left to melt forever? :D On the other hand it seems the only thing the patch actually fixed without breaking something else were the credits. Maybe it's just for the better this way :)
instagoat 133 Posted February 16, 2010 I noticed those news today too, and it´s quite shocking to see. They close the lid on the game with game (and potentially rig-) breaking bugs still in it? Talk about giving your customers the finger. I wonder if the gaming press is taking notice of this farce at all. DR wasn´t the most important game to be released towards the end of last year, but I still think just by the way CM treated their fans and customer base during this, some big attention by gaming magazines and sites is warranted. Maybe that would get some answers as to why they decided to take it this way. Shameful, Terrible way to end this.
bascule42 10 Posted February 16, 2010 I wonder if the gaming press is taking notice of this farce at all. The gaming press won't be that bothered. Most games magazines/site reply on ad revenue to generate income, most of that will be from publishers & developers, so really, a fair viewpoint - if that viewpoint is negative - will not be forthcoming. Impartiality from the gaming media by and large does not exist. Only when Cm screw up so bad they can' afford to advertise as much will there be any real criticism. Rather like CM's regard for its customers. I sincerely hope that CM will go the way of their games after this. They weren't the best games developer out there, but for their target audience they had some reasonable titles, (mostly with the words Colin McCrae at he beginning), but even their flagship franchises are going down the pan. I feel sorry for the guys who genuinely like DR: 1) for liking it in the first place, & 2) for how they have been treated. But this "closing the chapter" is just a complete slap in the face. They couldn't have been more insulting if they had walked in their customers house at christmas and pissed up the christmas tree and over the kids pressies. And to leave them with the 100 degree patch! ffs....unbelievable. Overall though, I feel glad this has happened. But not as glad as I am that I borrowed the game for a few days and therefore decided not to buy it.
-RIP- Luhgnut 10 Posted February 16, 2010 (edited) 16/02 - Confirmation of no further patches or additional DLCDue to the actual reason I decided to allow discussion on the subject for another 7 days. Thread will be closed again February 23. Guidelines from the first post still apply so keep it civilized gents. :) Wow. Nice..... The question remains though.... did they EVER support it? oh and about the physics defying wire job. I took out a machine from the closet and installed DR on it. Patched it. Machine has 8800GT in it and everything is stock. Over clocked it. Ratings were at 130% rated speeds. Then took my fans and turned them all the way up to simulate the PEG wiring supposedly burning up. Left it run all night. it's still running over there. My guy just runs back and forth across the island on a waypoint. BTW.... it takes less than 3 hours to run across. Not 9. mosh 0 Posted February 16, 2010 But not as glad as I am that I borrowed the game for a few days and therefore decided not to buy it. I rented it for XBOX 360... all I lost was $8. What a shame. That should make a few more people really appreciate what we have here with BIS. You mean you sat there for, ok, "less" than 3 hours with your finger on the "w" key? man that's dedication. :D Oh and by the way W0lle...7 days. Nice... Bulldogs 10 Posted February 16, 2010 I'm just surprised CM didn't stay silent for longer. Maybe the dwindling sales have finally ceased. I think the most disturbing part about that message is, "the vast majority of the team are already busy planning the future of modern combat." Meaning that CM haven't learned their lesson, and they're going to make a sequel, or worse, a GRAW.
SWT_Janowich 10 Posted February 16, 2010 to make a sequel, or worse, a GRAW. A GRAW would be nice, has things even ArmA does not have (Reloading and have 31 bullets in the chamber, etc)
mr_centipede 31 Posted February 17, 2010 (Reloading and have 31 bullets in the chamber, etc) That's not a GRAW, thats an R6... GRAW is mitchell and a general holding your hand and tell you what to do... and tossing your half empty mag away when reloading, missing dead bodies, retrieving 1(ONE) mag from the enemy, etc.. etc

JdB 151 Posted February 17, 2010 (edited) W0lle, if there is going to be an award for Moderator of the Year, you have my vote! (sorry Paul...) So, will the last of the stubborn defenders of DR/CM convert to the light? I'm guessing not, since there are seemingly a few already impatiently waiting CM' next "modern combat" scam. -RIP- Luhgnut 10 Posted February 17, 2010 Here: This is so sad.... Oh the memories.... "Supports alt-tabbing (I just did it)." "It runs way better than Arma2" "The AI isn't that bad" "You don't need a monster rig to play it like Arma2" "noob...learn at least the controls before you criticize a game...and btw OFP2 >>> ArmA2" "That was when i just spent 50$ and trying to justify it.. Look at the numbers arma2 =dead... more people play bf2! "It took me a total of 8 bullets with my SCAR to destroy the helicopter's rotor and cause it to crash and explode. EIGHT bullets... "And I find it rather a quaint and relaxing past time that I often enjoy to Bach, a cup of tea and some fresh cucumber sandwhiches. It's a place of wonderous grammar "Yes, now better known as The Datter Effect. Good-bye Dragon Rising... You pile of dung.
Bulldogs 10 Posted February 17, 2010 I wonder if they'd start hiring Sion to advertise other things. "Come to Restaurante Il Baliina, we have the finest in Italian cuisines and from as little as $39.99 you can get a wonderful 4 course meal consisting of gourmet pizza, fettuccine ala paglia et fino, gushini cardinale, veal scallopini, and a glass of chateu brion. And best of all, All the above food as been pre-digested for your convenience."
CameronMcDonald 146 Posted February 17, 2010 (Reloading and have 31 bullets in the chamber, etc) That's a lot of bullets in one chamber. :o Poor jokes aside, Codies has my full approval to ESAD after this travesty.
myshaak 0 Posted February 17, 2010 Now now, let's not be negative.. Dragon Falling 2 will come out this year for sure.. AND IT WILL PWN ARMA2'S ASS! It will be awesomeness never before seen, never before seen, never before seen... :p
dmarkwick 261 Posted February 17, 2010 With the upcoming release of the Overwatch DLC on PS3, and a few "heated" threads on the topic, I just wanted to inform you all that the team have now completed the “Dragon Rising†chapter of Operation Flashpoint and that’s it for DR-related content going forward. I always hated that phrase "going forward". Middle-management filler noise, stops them from actually going "uhh". Fact: I have NEVER heard a sentence from a middle-management jockey that contained the phrase "going forward" that did NOT mean EXACTLY the same thing without it. It is literally meaningless. [GLT] Legislator 66 Posted February 17, 2010 No more patches for the "other game"? ... I can't imagine any game/developer/publisher who failed that much in so many cases.
Guest Posted February 17, 2010 I don't actually remember a single game that died so quickly. I absolutely mean it when I say, I will never buy a game from CM again. And I will stick by that.
ProfTournesol 956 Posted February 17, 2010 My god, this topic is like the "Groundhog Day" movie : never ending and always repeating the same things again and again...even the moderators willing to close it cannot provide themselves from re-opening it... :cancan: i'm frightened to wake up tomorrow morning... Zipper5 74 Posted February 17, 2010 What's worse is that there are still, despite all the shit thrown in their face and the fact that the game can now do serious damage to your PC after running it for a while, holding on to it. Some people are just that desperate, just that naive, or like to be tossed around and ripped off. Frankly, since they don't mention anything about their "modern combat" being Operation Flashpoint, I'm happy. So long as their next title isn't called that, it can suck all they want. If it is, well, I for one will start emailing gaming magazines about DR (if they don't know about it already).
arigram 0 Posted February 17, 2010 from http://www.bluesnews.com/a/1603/codemasters-studios-growth-sees-guildford-expand-new-ip-team CODEMASTERS STUDIOS GROWTH SEES GUILDFORD EXPAND NEW IP TEAM, SECOND TEAM TARGETEDLead, Senior and Experienced development positions open as Codemasters Studios Guildford accelerates hiring program and targets additional team for future projects Tuesday 16th February/... Codemasters Studios, creators of the million-plus selling titles Colin McRae™: DiRT® 2 and Operation Flashpoint®: Dragon Rising and the holder of Develop’s Grand Prix Award 2009, is targeting growth through an aggressive recruitment program with a focus on its Guildford studio facility. The New Year has seen key positions open across the Guildford studio’s Design, Programming and Art teams. Currently, there are Art positions across Technical, Environment and Animation disciplines, in Programming there are Lead, Senior and Experienced posts open along with Senior Games Designer and Senior Level Designer opportunities. Codemasters Studios Guildford opened in 2007 under the management of Adrian Bolton, previously Development Director for EA Criterion, and Gavin Cheshire, Codemasters’ VP of Development. Formed to expand Codemasters’ internal studios network and create original IP in the action genre, the studio has prototyped several concepts over the past 18 months with one project entering full production some 12 months ago. The project, an original action FPS for leading console platforms, comes from the studio’s Creative Director Stuart Black, previously co-creator and designer of Black (2006). The title will be Codemasters’ first new IP developed utilizing the EGO Game Technology Platform, Codemasters’ multi-platform, cross-genre development engine, following the successful reboots of established franchises including Colin McRae: DiRT, Race Driver: GRID and Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising. Executive Producer Tom Gillo (previously Executive Producer and Game Director at Sony Computer Entertainment London Studio) and Senior Producer Andrew Wilson (previously Senior Producer, Split/Second at Blackrock) lead the 80-strong development team and will draw on Codemasters’ Central Technology Unit to further evolve the EGO Game Technology Platform. “Codemasters’ multi-site studio network has seen a significant rise in headcount to over 450 people and growth at the Guildford Studio is key to our overall development strategy,†said Gavin Cheshire, Vice President, Codemasters development. “With Stuart Black’s new shooter in production, deployment of EGO and key development figures heading up a highly skilled team, our Guildford facility offers great potential for development talent based in the South East who want to join a growing studio and work on original titles for our future portfolio. This current hiring phase is just the beginning as we look to build a further full team and create additional original IP on site.†For further details on the positions open at Codemasters Studio Guildford and across the Codemasters Studios group, visit www.codemasters.com/careers, @Codemastersjobs on Twitter or email recruitment@codemasters.com.
