Completely fair score for a great game. :)

And I just found this quote very funny.

You call CM a one trick pony, right? Well, this is what I find funny.

Bohemia's most recent mil sim was about 4 years ago, and CM's most recent mil sim was some expansions to OF 1 about 7 years ago. They have only been working on racing games since then...

And yet they still get get better reviews than ArmA II, even though Bohemia have MORE experiance with the genre and have (arguably) better staff. :p

Edit: Zipper, I'm looking at a user score of 8.7. :)

No bone brain.....

The point is........ (jeez, I can't believe I gotta spell this out.)

Bohemia's sole vision, work, concept, development, is in a SINGLE Military Simulation environment and combat simulation. Period. You don't see them developing one racing game after another, you don't see them dumping out one crappy title after another. You state VOLUME of games produced 99% crappy. The only that was a triumph, BIS did!

So if CM doesn't make any money and DR fails (and by looking at the numbers, and comments, it's happening quickly.) all they have to do, is walk into a conference room, get a status report of which game is nearing completion and having the best marketing value. Walk out, and now that's their focus.

They don't care. They will just produce another game, after game, after game. How long have they promised the holy grail of patches for GRID? They still haven't seen it.

BIS doesn't have that mindset. Create, and enhance an engine, that is tried, and true, and build on it.

Codemasters..... well. I can tell you one thing. Their marketing department is genius. The rest of em? Door is that-a way ->

Oh BTW. When Operation Flashpoint (Original) came out. I passed on buying it for nearly a year. Never even considered buying it because it had

CODEMASTERS

Stamped on the front. I played everything else that year, and never even looked at OPFP until a buddy of mine mentioned it. I remember asking him? "You sure? It's a Codemasters title." He let me borrow a copy. I haven't purchased another Codemasters title since...because the rest of their library is garbage for the PC.. Well until last week, when I swallowed the garbage of CM and hoped for something even remotely fun as the original. So they get into console's, where 95% of the user base, has trouble with a mouse.

Then you look at a user score of 8.7 which is cumulative across all platforms. I'm impressed..... How about this score? I beat that pile of crap in < 5 Hours. without even breaking a sweat. The multiplayer is non-existent.

5 Hours total playable game time.

Arma2 Nearly 250 Hours and counting. It would have been 255 hours, if I counted the time wasted on that. I challenge you. Six months from now (as long as Arma2 has been out). Let's see how your score ranks.... let's just see. I'll mark my calendar. Seriously, I'm marking it and your handle on here. I'll put them right in your email. Oh BTW..... the multiplayer is doomed..... the hackers are having a field day with it. "Doh, we shoulda put a code-key in." Now if they were so GENIUS, they wouldn't have screwed over their customer base by making that epic blunder. Without a copyprotection of DVD Key? The nailed their own coffin shut with that doozy. With all their Experience, they didn't put a cd-key in. That in itself is epic. They screwed you and you defend them.

Dragon Risings graphics are just epic! and the game is so intence,

The only thing that could be described as "epic" about this game is epic fail.

I like how before AND after release of DR the only argument of DR fans as to why it's a better game than ARMA is still review scores. How long before space posts that review again? :)

I have to admit i idiot bought OFP:DR for my X360. It was ok. game for a console but nothing else. No vehicles, no guns and no shit. All of the marketing of OFP:DR from CM was total bullshit.

So BIS definetly won this match. BIS can just relax now when they know their game is miles ahead. OFP:DR will be forgotten soon, but Arma 2 remains played and loved by PC gamers.

Now just release the goddamned performance patch already. :D

BIS won this match, yes, i hope some people that so much waited for "second OFP" will be back here , i hope there will be no idiots among them

in OFP we had most creative community ever

maybe Arma 2 will do it too

when i hear about "max 64 AI bots on map" i don't know - to laugh or to cry ?

Ummm... Carrier command?

Well you gotta spell it out because it's untrue. They put grap loads of work into poseidon, engine which never was to be military-simualtions-eviroment-open-free-i'm-out-of-superlatives-and-breath. And like stated they are NOT going to put that amount of work (because it's insane amount of work) into their game/engine anymore. Results can be seen as ArmA and ArmA2. [sarcasm]One might say that OFP was triumph because they had CM at their side.[/sarcasm]

And irony of situation is: And they didn't want to become any kind military gaming specialists. Poor ba$tards one might say, but they make money out of it.

Sure that doesn't change the fact that Codemasters is what it is. Publisher with bad reputation and average and below games.

Well, all these 104 pages prove that only thing OFP:DR is good for is to use the DVD for target practice (or burning experiments)

ArmA II's is 7.7.

Ummm... Carrier command?

Hey, Carrier Command was baddass!

---------- Post added at 04:17 PM ---------- Previous post was at 04:14 PM ----------

Since when is night blue, and almost as clear as day? And since when has the moon been as bright as the sky, but seemingly projecting dark blue light instead?

Dude! That's the new graphics engine! Remember the promo video how they can obtain any environment? "Fog Rolling in....." even. (hey, anybody remember seeing any "fog rolling in..." during that?

Oh wait.... I remember now.... or maybe it was my eyes glazing over and getting bloodshot from all the "Realistic and Natural Orange and Brown."

oh btw.... I posted a new video on the Y-tube.

Something interesting that I appear to have found after playing around with daytime settings in the editor:

At night, the moon doesn't move. At all. It's always in the same position.

Given the way that the night is done in the game, this is the theory that I've come up with to explain this:

It is literally daylight with PP effects applied over it.

The moon is not actually the moon, it's the sun. Hence the incredible brightness of it. The PP effects just make it look more like a moon, though it still doesn't at all. It's more like a floodlight. And instead of making it have a second cycle, CM, naturally, took a shortcut, and just put it in one place. I'm sure if you were to set it to a time that was just before the moon is programed to change to the sun at dawn, you'd see the "moon" just suddenly disappear from the sky.

Man alive, if that's what they actually did... That... I have no words to describe that...

It's interesting to observe that people are getting increasingly angry now after OFP:DR has been out for a while, I mean, I've never seen so many furious customers venting about their anger on any game so far. Along bugs and other issues related to "consolization" of the game many have probably finished the short and mediocre campaign only find out the multiplayer is mostly worthless. People seem to feel misled and cheated by CM. The dev team also seems to live in denial ingoring customer's desperate pleas while making vague announcements polished by some PR guy of "DLC including map and weapon packs" - the last thing this game really needs.

This is really shockingly ignorant and shows there really is no passion for the game, just for money. Makes me really thankful to BIS for their outstanding care, support and commitment.

I just think it is hillarous to see people's outrage.

First CM go on with their extreme advertising and it's already then plainly obvious they don't care at all about OFP but just want to sell as much as possible, which with 110% certainty means the game will be so mainstream that other mainstream games seem unique and niched.

And then people BUY the game to see if it is as much shit as they expect it might be. What's with that?! You've already given CM their money and they couldn't care less what you think about the game, since you've already paid for it!

Gullible, gullible people. If you've paid $0.01 for the game you don't have a right to complain about being screwed over by the way the game is designed. By the bugs? Yes. By mainstream design choices? No way.

 He took them down after I made my post. I could see the pics just fine, but after checking my calendar and seeing 2009 (and not 2005) I couldn't believe anyone would find this "epic". Ok(ish) perhaps, but certainly not deserving any superlatives whatsoever.

Thanks for your videos btw, the one with the boat had me giggling quite a bit.

/b/ is less copypasta than this thread ffs.

Speaking of copy-pasta, I thought I might take the liberty to revisit one of my debunking posts now that we really know the FACTS about dragon rising:

1. weapons can jam,

Proven to NOT be in dragon rising.

2. bullets can penertrate through stuff, but this correctly calculated, to determine thickness of material, and speed of bullet over distance.

Proven to be poorly implemented - I can fire through the glass of a vehicle, but not the open space in the back?!?! (Plenty of vids on youtube to back this up)

3. fantastic physics engine which runs all sorts of awesome stuff!

Proven to be fantastically awesome awful - lets flip my jeep 20m through the air because I hit a rock, roll my abrams because I hit a bush and lets not even talk about the dragster tanks or helicopter handling.

4. correct reload and assemble animations for weapons

Proven to be partially incorrect and the only assembly anims are for the rocket launchers. (Lets cock the weapon every time I change the mag, the MP5 anims are ALL wrong, and lets not even talk about switching to grenade launcher...)

5. fantastic, and real weapon sounds for weapons

Subjective, only real-sourced sounds are for USMC equipment.

6. flir

Proven to be completely unrealistic and no better than what is available in ArmA2 - also quite easy to use as an auto-aim hack (lets face it, its 50% of the system already ingame).

7. guns have correct gadgets implemented such as torches, lasers etc...

Proven to ONLY be flaslights. No lasers, no ladder sights, no bipods, no nothing...

8. different ammo types for each weapon

Well, I'm struggling to find much other than ball ("FMJ") for most weapons. Yes the vehicle weapons often have varying loadouts, but from what I'm seeing in the editor, its not exactly varied. Also, loltracers from EVERY weapon, even if its not a tracer type - see Mk19 firing tracer ammo 40mm...

9. different rates of fire

A few weapons have different modes, but I'm not really seeing much option here.

10. Intelligent ai

Proven to be a dumb as hats unless guided by triggers and scripting...

11. fantastic command system

Proven to be completely borked due to the console-port nature of the engine. Oh yay, lets prevent ALL player movement whilst he's trying to give orders or change weapons...

12. awesome range of weapons, and air strikes

Proven to be smaller than the range available in ArmA2

13. Catstrophic damage system, for vehicles and humans alike

Proven to be one single type of headshot, and one single type of gut shot, and one single type of awful gib system. Proven to NOT be present for vehicles.

14. real time day/night cycle

Proven to be accellerated to 3x speed and proven to NOT have sun or moon cycles, nor accurate stars.

15. realistic player effects from bullets, and tiredness

Proven to be unrealistic - oh god oh god theres blood ON my eyes... And sprinting for ever.... Lets not even mention the magic bandages or the medics magic syringe...

16 levels of communication, depending on what the sitiuation is, shouting, normal, and whisper voice

Proven to be quite good actually, assuming the AI is in the right mode.

17. can enter most buildings, and can either open door by handle, or kick it in

Proven to be average, considering there is all of about 12 different building models on the whole of skira, not really that impressive. Also proven that once opened, you can not close a door again. Derp. Not yet seen an AI kick in a door, but then I havent played the campaign yet, so I might be missing some scripted event there? (Jury is still out on that)

18. island features volcano, coves, and bunkers

Proven to be nothing more than a large hill with an indentation in the top. Whoop-de-do.

19. ai cannot see through smoke, vegitation, ai feature moral, and awarness systems, as well as a few others.

Proven to be complete bs, since the ai can see you through pretty much everything.

20. Fantastic graphics, and awesome lighting effetcts

Pretty subjective. But you can NOT disagree that the models are low poly, have low-res textures and suffer from AWFUL lod switching.

21. Awsome particle effects system

Proven to look nice in most cases, but rather limited - every explosion looks the same, just scaled differently.

22. sound fx feature bullet cracks, gun fire from differnent distances, speed & distance of sound is implemented

Proven to be ok, when the sound plays fully. Lots of cases of sounds clipping before they have completed playing.

23. the awesome streaming tech, allows for huge draw distances!

Proven to be utter bullshit. Sure you can see for miles and miles, but nothing, absolutely NOTHING renders beyond 1300m. I know, I've tested, double tested and verified myself (on a powerful rig, everything maxed). So this massive view distance allows you to see nothing more than some very low-res terrain mesh with some very low res/muddy textures on it. Awesome...

Well DM I cant be bothered to individually respond to every piece of misinformation you typed there, but almost every negative thing you typed there is in fact confirmed as the opposite

O rly now? Since the game has been released, and everything can be seen by everyone with their own eyes, not just from the PR nonsense, would you still like to claim this?

DM you top the list with your complete bullshit lol, you really dont have a clue do you lol, that list i made, were all fact

Full of bullshit you say? I'm not so sure, are you? Still want to claim it all as fact?

I hate to be smug (actually, I lie, I love to be smug) but... I told you so? :D

Edit to add: If anyone has any corrections, I'll be happy to make them. I'm pretty sure this is correct tho.

I did find this amusing, since evrything in that list except maybe one or two things are in the game, and seeing as that list was made pretty much of the top of my head from what i gathered from interviews, that aint bad! btw weapon Jam is in.... happened to me quite a few times.

9/10

:D

Nothing to smug about old chap! ;)
