M203's and other granades

Recommended Posts

Why is it when i drop 203's right on a couple of guys most of them live? They do that retarded ROCKING from the blast and keep running. 203 would lay you out on the ground first off and second off 1 right in your face will kill you.

Does anyone else see this issue? Also, does this occur with hand granade?

IRL, the 40mm and most hand grenades have a very small lethal kill radius of 5m, even then its not a guaranteed kill, especially in open environments. Grenades were designed for trenches, buildings, bunkers, etc. ArmA doesn't simulate grenades very well either.

If you know how to edit configs, then you could try upping damage and splash damage levels.

The kill radius is small, but the fragmentation radius can extend up to 20m. In ArmA, anything that's not right under the grenade, indoors or not, usually makes it away without a scratch. There really should be the potential for both major crippling wounds and minor wounds from 5-20m. Granted, this may not even be realistically possible within the engine since AFAIK, ArmA 2 uses a basic spherical splash damage model instead of an actual fragmentation simulation (which is probably for the best considering current performance).

I was going to make a thread on splash damage, but I decided to bump this instead.

I'm playing A.C.E mod and I'm training with the m32 MGL which is awesome using the sights adjustment and a range finder, because I can pinpoint locations accurately within the maximum 400 meters.

So anyway, I set up some civilian groups(so they don't fire back on me when I go to investigate them), and bombard the area with a round of 6 40mm grenades. They all land within like 5-10 feet from the people... and when I go to investigate only one of them died, but all the rest who were right next to the one who died are either completely unharmed, or barely injured when I 'examine' them.

Very frustrating. Same goes with other explosive rounds... there's like no proper kill radius even if the explosion lands just a couple feet from them.

Raziaar:

This is an ARMA2 thread however. You mention the ACE mod wich is not out for ARMA2 yet. ;)

Kinda applies though i guess. But to me it has worked pretty well with grenades. But they could (should?) maybe injure units in a slightly bigger radius than the present one. Sometimes it do seem like they do get away too easy. :)

I wish there was a "stun" time for AI when explosions go off nearby (like when you ears ring and vision blurs); where they move slower and maybe are combat ineffective for a few seconds until they gather their senses. I hate watching a grenade go off right next to someone and they just flinch and keep moving like nothing happened. Also, I think this would be good for AI tank crews that bail out and instantly start engaging which bugs a lot of people

Oh sorry, I was in the Arma forum subfolder when I initiated the search. Didn't realize the thread took me to the Arma 1. My mistake :(

I believe it's mostly luck, and that adds to the realism.

Well... see, the luck aspect seems to be that you have to be very lucky if you can kill or even injure someone when your grenade explodes 2-5 feet from them... whereas in real life you have to be very lucky to AVOID any damage... because at those ranges you're gonna typically be pretty badly hurt if not dead.

There's definitely luck in there, but it's completely flipped.

I was just getting 3 to 4 kills on a 6 man set in the editor if I shot well enough.

Well it could simply be that I am talking about ArmA 1. Because I didn't realize this was in the ArmA 2 forum when I made my search and found this thread.
