Sands - 41km Desert Terrain

Recommended Posts

I used the town construction set and created about 20 cities to use it for Warfare. I'm having problems getting AI to move long distances though. I dont know if thats got anything to do with road networks or what. Alot of fun though. Planes everywhere.

Add roads on the map, and add some SMALL towns/villages on it at the crossings. Thats all. Maybe a FEW trees. :)

I'm a NOOB with map making also and am having problems creating roads on my map. I know you need the BI tools(Visitor). You also need to dpbo the addons in arma2(roads2) http://community.bistudio.com/wiki/Visitor_3:_Making_of_simple_landscape. The rest I dont know because I've been unsuccessful myself at adding roads to my map.

Man when will this be updated? I've been enjoying it since it was released, it IS good for training on. You can set up huge engagements with various ideas going on. I just wish there was some improvement.

By the way, it's also a lot of fun with NIM weather, due to the long view distance and high performance, it's a shame that NIM was never updated either though.

This probably not what the island maker had in mind when he made it, but I found a cool use for this:

A city:

Another city:

Here's the test mission with the script tweaking the random town generator to get those results (note: Requires CO! If you want to use OA only you'll have to edit the script to remove A2 objects first):

Thanks galzohar, I hadnt tried that before.

I might be able to use these "random" towns to make permanent ones.

The main problem of the town generator is that it absolutely sucks if the terrain isn't 100% flat. Buildings can have terrain inside of them and sometimes even be non-enterable for either just AI or for everyone. So basically the only place I could make this work well is around the airfield in Sands where everything is 100% flat, and set the size as big as I could without having too many buildings go up on the mountain (sometimes a few buildings will still go up there, in which case you'll be able to see how terrible this works in those areas).

Of course those towns also don't have roads and aren't structured very much like towns, but those are very minor issues compared to the above, and don't really break the gameplay.

Seems like when creating such a huge city (1850 buildings), while it works more than fine in single player and for clients in multiplayer, the host seems to have silly FPS drops/stutters for no good reason (even if he's not anywhere near the town). Haven't tested on dedicated yet because I don't have access to a dedicated server that has this island and don't want to set up my own dedicated just to test this, but I wonder what could be causing the host to stutter so badly (even when no players are connected). Happens even with just CO and my islands folder active, so it's not a problem in ACE or zcommon.

You can use it but only with CUP terrains...
