Island Panthera for ArmA 2

As you noticed, v2.3 is still not out. Yesterday we completed a final beta testing of v2.3, but I had to remake Arnoldstein and Smugglers airports (added taxi runways) so AI can use these two. Other 2 smaller airfields can be used by AI too but they have trouble turning at the end (not enough space).

New stuff:

- new island added on SW, property of Druglord Ramon Vidal (Taff Grove Town & Pikia Village)

- added lush vegetation and small villages to Northern mountains and coastal area

- fixed pebble texture and further improvement of all green vegetation

- gas station Schnell and army fuel stations can now explode and burn

Keshman: will add it, don't ya worry.

Just some comments on the island...

The sat texture looks bad in some places, mainly some parts seem to have a shadow in the texture and some parts are blue. I can't make out any of those problems in the screenshots of the new version so maybe it's been improved?

The ArmA 1 buildings lack the proper material definitions of the ArmA 2 buildings. So bullets can't penetrate them and they show the dirt impact effect when shot. They also lack destructible parts. I know this isn't an easy thing to address but replacing some buildings with similar ArmA 2 ones would be an improvement IMO.

Anyway, good work on the island. Look forward to the update :)

Nope, Ramon's been killed in August 5th 2008 in a PvP multiplayer event "Tourists on Uhao", but his partners too his business over, along with villas and drug factories:)

Sorry, have no experience in creating Warfare/CTI maps :/ but I'll setup a page where missions will be posted for this island.

Update report just before the release of 2.3:

- added several lakes and rock formations to improve the rocky areas that will be useful for my "Cliffhanger" mission that I'm making.

- added river in Northern area and smaller settlements (shacks)

- upgraded airports so they are now bigger and feature taxi paths (also for AI)

- numerous terrain fixes (smoothing)

Eh, another 5 hours of work went into it yesterday. At least there are new settlements, rivers and roads on the North Shore now ;)

And a suprise "that drivers will love" ;)

The_Angry_Canadian: well, project is cancelled.

j/k, final tests are underway right now, it will be released if we don't notice any major bugs... and there is a massive upgrade, I alone spent more than 80 hours on this project in just a month :)

My heart dropped when i read that :/:D

I've been using this island to practice my low level flying with the F-16 through the valleys. Just awesome. It reminds me of when i was little and holidaying in the lake district. the raf would fly though the valleys and scare the shit out of me. i've been obsessed ever since. Kudos. :cool:

Can't wait for new version.

Expanded my island with a woodcutters area. Idea's are welcome for a rural area where nature is still in control

Wait... What does that island have to do with Panthera island?

Holy shit.

I can't even say anything else.. it looks so awesome. I better go buy food supplies to be prepared for the new version, which will probably glue me to my PC for hours.

Changelog v2.3:

- improved terrain texture quality

- new ibr_rn.pbo instead of old BIS roads.pbo, no more CAA1 interference

- new "ILuvGreen" trees/bushes (to achieve summer look)

- added missing paa files & fixed config errors

- new villages of Livek and Radovna added

- added Northern Tropical Sector, river, villages, forests and lakes

- added a racing park Pantherion for fun with cars and bikes

- updated heightmap of fictional desert area, now more realistic terrain layout

- added ILS/AI landing + takeoff points for Arnoldstein

- upgraded airport Arnoldstein

- improved make-shift runway in Bovec

- resolved bumpmapping issue with pebble texture

- removed palm tree from the middle of desert road

- added server keys for admins
