ChickenHawk 0 Posted March 21, 2002 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! They gave away Hong Kong dont let em give away Gibralter!! It's an important naval base & it has a great location for access to the med etc. Why would Spain want a lump of rock anyways?
Stealt Eagle 1 Posted March 21, 2002 Sad to say it, but there ain't much to do. If Gibraltar wants to be connected to Spain, then it's their choice, not the brits.
ChickenHawk 0 Posted March 21, 2002 Last time I heard just about all of Gibralter wanted to stay British. But the govt is taking the wussy foreign policy and giving it to spain despite the people wanting to stay brit. Whatever happened to national identity? IsthatyouJohnWayne 0 Posted March 21, 2002 Yes. Gibraltarians are some of the most patriotic British people that exist , i was there only a couple of months ago-very nice place. http://news.bbc.co.uk/hi....199.stm
ralphwiggum 6 Posted March 21, 2002 excuse me, but Hong Kong was a big rape of Chinese land. it was secured as a part of pact btw Ch'ing dynasty after opium War. so it's only fitting that HK is returened to their rightful owners. Gibraltar, if you wonder why Spaniards are sooooo hungup on a piece of land? why is britain so hung up on it too? AFAIK, if britain does not have Gibraltar, thye won't have to worry about thier soldiers landing on wrong beach
Ex-RoNiN 0 Posted March 21, 2002 I didn't know that people actually live in Gibraltar...I thought the UK only owns the cliffs or something
Damage Inc 0 Posted March 21, 2002 Why do they argue so much about a couple of cliffs? Just give them to poor people in Bulgaria or something.

Tex -USMC- 0 Posted March 22, 2002 You hear about this story? British marines in exercises off of Gibraltar "strayed" off course, and accidentally invaded Spain. Imagine their surprise lol. God, its good to be alive
Hilandor 1 Posted March 22, 2002 indeed seemingly 2/3 of gibraltarians were protesting about not being wanting to become part of spain and the good news to that any decision made would be done with a referendum, cant be more fair than that i say.
Thehamster 0 Posted March 22, 2002 What I find outrageous is that Spain owns some place in the north of Morocco and when asked for it back they have denied flatly and if you go there and mention Gibraltar to them they go ape shit at you as if it is there god given right to have it. I say let them stew with it they don't deserve it.
Placebo 28 Posted March 22, 2002 As far as I know Spain currently have 3 "colony" type places, two in Morocco but I can't find the third...... </span><table border="0" align="center" width="95%" cellpadding="3" cellspacing="1"><tr><td>Quote </td></tr><tr><td id="QUOTE">Formerly divided between French and Spanish colonies, Morocco became independent in 1956, although Spain retained (and still retains) the enclaves of Ceuta and Melilla in the north, which remains a bone of contention between the two countries. <span id='postcolor'> Quote from http://www.virgin.net/travel....ent.htm They should invade, about time we had another "Falklands"

Placebo 28 Posted March 23, 2002 Ahhh thanx for the info Sadico Yup I totally agree, those who live there should be the ones who decide, and after 25,000 of the 30,000 population when onto the streets to protest about any possible change in sovereignty I think it's pretty clear what they want
Sadico 1 Posted March 23, 2002 Yes, i saw it yesterday in the newspaper. If they want to be british, their decision should be respected. Both Spain and the U.K. are democratic countries so the will of Gibraltar's people must be respected.
