ArmA II: Operation Arrowhead discussion thread

ACE 2 too ?? YES YES YES AM SO HAPPY ;]

Probably not, since that's a total conversion mod. It might take a month or two at least based on how different the engine is from ArmA2, plus removing a lot of the vehicles/weapons in ACEX.

And I think you guys are forgetting, it was confirmed earlier in this thread that the EAGLE WING CAMPAIGN IS NOT CANON. It's no problem to use Ed Winter's name, he didn't exist officially before.

bis manages another game were we kill commies. not only commies, but ARAB commies.

I don't think Takistan is an Arab country. It is located in Central Asia, and speaks Persian Farsi (as mentioned by a dev). Who knows if they're communists? They could be a secular dictatorship like Iraq in the 1990s. :p

But getting back on topic here...

TAKE THAT SOCIALIST SCUM! :p

What is a better scenario? Taking on the pirates on the Somali coast? That would be about the same tech level as the insurgents (okay, a bit lower, but you know...) In this world, the only other significant opposition to individual safety and freedoms is aliens!! :D:j:

Also noting that Chernarus can be compared to check republic (sp?) and Takistan is right next to it I would assume it would be something like Tajikistand or Afghanistan. Zargabad is probably comparable to something like baghdad.

If I recall correctly, Chernarus was based on Belarus with Czech influences. ;)

Zargabad iunfortunately, is very, very small, compared to Baghdad, as seen in a latest press video. :(

A2 OA SCENARIO:

Arma II: Operation Arrowhead begins three years after the offensive Chernarus.

In 1988, after the fall of the monarchy power between monarchists and socialists tribal groups erupted a struggle for supremacy of Takistan. Both factions were supported respectively by the superpowers Russia and United States, which sought to secure strategic control over the country's rich resources, particularly oil reserves and mining precious minerals.

In 1992, thanks to the huge Soviet military and arms supplies from the East, the Socialists took over. However, large tribal groups remained monarchists. Oil resources available were quickly exploited to expand and strengthen the state police and the armed forces Takistan. The production of ballistic missiles and Scud B carrier-rocket secret projects and research and development of chemical weapons led to an increase in military escorts to increase the military power of Takistan and at the same time consolidating the government.

On April 17, 2012 royalist tribes apparently with the help of intelligence agents in the CIA provoked considerable damage to oil production. Coordinated a raid on oil fields strategic forces put three hard blows to the regime: the loss of a year of production, destruction of 68% of wells and a drastic reduction of resources with which to maintain control over the country.

Power structures began to disintegrate: rumors were spreading discontent and subversive acts occurred. In a desperate attempt to preserve its authority, the Supreme Council socialist threatened to launch a chemical attack if the neighboring country of Karzeghistan had "immediately returned to his people" Sharig the plateau, a region rich in oil that had been usurped by the British the time of the monarchy Takistan.

On June 1, 2012, days after the ultimatum, the forces of the alliance established bases in the territories controlled by rebels and launched the so-called Operation Arrowhead. Their purpose was to prevent possible attacks with ballistic missiles and nipped in the bud Karzeghistan of aggression, even before he groped any humanitarian initiative or policy.

In this situation, two armies and 24 hours in which only you can make a difference.

for those of you who may have missed it. in the media coverage thread. the taks do seem to be commies

the reason i say "arab", is the chances of finding some one in czech rep who speaks fluent Dari, Pashtu or farci would probably be pretty hard. its probably easier for BIS to just get some arabic speakers. but its just hair brained speculation on my end

There's a reference to the CIA conducting raids against Takistan's infrastructure in there. Perhaps maybe there will be some CIA SAD blokes in OA? :D

Someone on youtube mentioned that the writings on the walls and shops are in arabic, so you're probably right

All the new objects/buildings that comes with OA will open a new world for the island/map makers ;)

The text in the Zargabad shops is indeed Arabic, one example is a shop sign that says "Milk and Cheese".

Think more Jalalabad, Afghanistan. It is a city of about 220,000. It looks more like the city in the game. Small compared to Baghdad.

Also it is Zarga-bad not Zarga-dad. It just makes sense to me.

---[Edit]---

It is based off Afghanistan. That is something we can agree on. Maybe a mix between Iraq and Afghanistan. Maybe even a mix of Gaza and West Bank.

Am I reading this correctly? The Soviet Union collapsed in 1991, how can they be sending arms in 1992? Anyways, that's a small thing. It's looking good! :D

When the Soviet Union collapsed they sold off much of their military to get out of debt. Plus Generals were black marketing military goods in order to flee the country and live fat. The Soviet Union became a military wholesale. They sold items in bulk.

Don't be fooled by the dark side of the force. ACE 2 should run fine with small fixes ;)

I have yet to encounter any AI that uses stairs in Vanila... I might be mistaken since I played with GL4 most of the time.

Well then you're not playing the same game as me. I have no problem getting AI to use stairs, you just have to order them to a position on the roof if there's one available...

They can also use them if you place them inside buildings at mission start too or give them a waypoint inside a building.

Really good job with those frogfoots... Not that we didn't have similar rambo missions before in ofp/arma, but c'mon!

Wow this is totally new to me. Even after playing quite as regular as I can... I didn't know the AI uses stairs. As far as my experience with AI in the building normally lands them on the roof which makes them suicidal....

Let me try it out. Thanks for the tip guys.
