In a world of corruption and lobbying there is no place for taking care of environment, creatures and nature. Its easier to explore the space than convince all people about their own responsibilities.

USA try to convinence people with there money.but nations want some steps which USA should take.so summit fails.

All develop nation agree to pay money and measure all thing with money which is big problem.develop nation should take some measures/things at there own country.which they can't?

It's all very easy to give money away until it's your own.

No question about it. The rising sea levels due to a polar caps melting will change the world. If the seas rise about 3 meters the Island of Tuvalu will sease to exist. If seas rise more Florida will sink under the water and we lose Bangladesh and it's important rice crops. If the sea rises results are millions of refugees and things will go out of control.

Look on the bright side Finland will become a fertile and productive land able to support millions more. You will be able to save the world and get insanely rich both at the same time. (Or you could just give all your stuff away for free!)

Nature supports life. Nature is life.

And I don't think cold weather is going to do a lot to convince people of global warming. You'd need another heatwave ideally.

As for the west understanding the changing enviroment, it was my impression that the west is now, and has always been, the largest contributor to mankind's understanding of the changing enviroment.

Germany and Washington have spent a small fortune not only on learning about it but educating the rest of the world too.

Copenhagen wasn't ever going to achieve anything in this economic climate in my opinion. No one has money for this kind of frivolity right now.

I wouldn't be suprised if it has opened up the diplomatic channels to further address this subject in the future. Given all the relavent beaurocrats their opposite numbers phone and email addresses etc.

But this isn't the time. It's cold, they lied, the world isn't warming and everyone has run out of money.

So maybe, if it starts warming again by the next summit, and the world economy is all booming again, maybe they will do more. Until then, the whole campaign is going to be running on life support only.

Yet everyone is talking about global warming. Riffleman, do the events you are talking about sound even remotely like global warming?

In the 1960s and 1970s it was global cooling (I even remember seeing a poster in a 6th grade classroom about that when I was in grade school). In the 1990s and 2000s it was/is global warming. Now, it is global warming, but global warming actually causes freezing? Come on...

I live in Germany and the change of the climate is noticeable if i remember how it was years ago or when i remember the times as a child. Iam 32 years old and the climate in the 80ies was different than now.

1.) climate change which i witness in my living area

I remember when it was possible to go cross country skiing from the door of my parents house, over the acres just where you would love to go. That is impossible since around 12-15 years, there was not just a single year with enough snow to do that. There were also one or two skiing lifts, we have small mountains up to 600-700m, and both did close years ago after the help with artificial snow was too expensive. The winter climate did change a lot in comparison to years ago. We had winters in the last year with almost no snow at all and most of the time temperatures around 0 C !

Some days ago we had a crazy night with -28 C, similar to the January of this year, today we had +4....i cant remember such days with so high minus temperatures aswell in the years ago, you could find such minus temperatures maybe in alpes but not close to a half million town.

The summer did change aswell, we got several summers in the last years especially this decade ! with crazy temperatures i.e. 35 C, we got summers where the hot season did start already in March with really high temperatures, we had summers where you had almost no sunshine at all..i.e. this summer 2009 we had only one period of two weeks with nonstop sunshine. Summer years ago were known that you had a longer period, several weeks with loads of sunshine days and we had not that crazy high temperatures.

In school we did talk about that and in this time most did laugh about a climate change and not many would believe it, i did not think that it would change that fast...well only in such a short time things really start to happen. And if you ask your parents or older people, the changes in the decades before were not that drastically.

@oxmox

The climate has changed, yes. I don't think anyone is debating that point. The real debate is whether man has been a major contributer to the change.

@riffleman

I don't think I've got your point. First it is global warming, now it is global cooling? Or are you just going to stick with the generic "climate change" label in case it goes either way? Can we at least settle on which way the temperature is going to go? Which is it, global warming or global cooling? You can't have your cake and eat it too.

The real debate is whether man has been a major contributer to the change.

The human is a contributer to many changes in the nature those are facts, the discussion about global warming covers not all. We have a lot more problems than only global warming, if global warming is caused by human or not, opinions of scientists differ here probably, we destroy our world anyway I dont think we have to debate this since we all know it.

@oxmox

This thread is not concerned about problems other than global warming/global cooling/climate change.

@riffleman

Nice try with your ad hominem argument. What does my opinion of nature have to do with the debate on the validity of man-made climate change? I find it interesting that you did not answer my question, but rather went straight to arguing against me. When you answer my question I will answer yours.

riffleman - i was on holidays in mountains - only rain and rain instead of snow and winter

snow was few days before and now gone

in my country we had a lot of snow for few months

now rather gore-tex clothes are here better than warm wool jacket

but you are right - people go offtopic

topic is about "pollution" and people go at "temperature" or "not changing"

it is changing and it is fact, only blind or dumb or liar can watch into 100W flashlight and say it is not bright

we have changes, but i don't know is it human activity cause or is it natural cause (axis of earth, sinusoid of temperature cycles in history )

but i am damn sure - pollution is problem

for warm winters - there may be natural geological reason, earth cycle (i was always saying i don't discuss temperature effect causes)

for allergy, poisoned rivers, poisoned lakes, poisoned ground, dying birds etc. - pollution is cause

if you write above about people who died of cold

it is "capitalism" - new economy, homeless, unemployed etc. that results in their alcohol death (drunkards that lost all hope and drink till death, cause their plants/manufactures exist no more, all is "made in China" (whole industry we had in Poland do not exist, whole textile city Lodz now has t-shirt, shirts "made in China" for 1 euro) and many people lost jobs in 90's and homes because had no money to pay for it, now they are heavy addicted to alcohol and die on streets of cold for example )

in Poland we had many many more colder winters

but we had no 300-400 000 homeless people according to social care data shown on TV before

in Poland we had -25'C many years before and it was not problem (Polish woolen clothes, traditional mountaineer sweaters , polars , US Navy socks, Bundeswehr boots, US M65 long parka etc.) it is not a problem really, we are used to such temperatures and many of us love winter so much and now miss winter so much

cause people had homes, job etc.

but we had no so many people living on streets , so this what you wrote above (100 died of winter) - it not meet "nature" problem, it meets "economy" problem

i never thought that 1% of my country citizens are homeless, but such data was shown by experts

i always thought it is maybe 10 000 in my country, not 300-400 000 :( it was for me really shocking data

in "socialism" we almost had no homeless and unemployed, now as you wrote - tv news about many many people died because of cold on streets , "lack of food" was unimaginable in socialism , now we have people with palaces and 5 cars and ... homeless dying

Yes environments change, also the continents constantly shift and change. Heck the Sea of Cortez grows wider by i think something like a few CM per year.

A single Volcano is more likely to damage the environment far more then man could do in 30 years. One explosion does more damage then man.

Billions of years ago there were no oceans, only volcanoes and big deep puddles of sulfur laden water where no oxygen existed.

Oxygen levels have changed many times over the course of this planets history. If people are so stupid to think that man can have a large impact on the planet vs what this planet has already gone through.. well keep on buying into this gimmicky liberal trash.

I wont, and I wont change my habits or ways. I'll continue on doing what I do and living a life that is comfortable for me.

This is all one large cyle that has happened many times, geologic studies have proven this but people ignore the truth even when it is right in there face.

You can look at temperature and snowfall records for the last 50 years and see periods in which temperatures were increasingly warmer, or colder. It will always change and as humans we have to adapt to the change instead of attempt to negate and change it (we will fail if we try to change what is natural evolution)
