Hi folks,

I have played now Arma2 Demo for some time and bought me the full version, since I would like to support the developers of this really nice game/simulation. In the demo version, so v 1.02, whenever you disable all the nice graphical features, you can get advantage over other people playing the game.

So for example whenever you prone your view is get covered by the grass. This is also a good feature. However, now if I set the graphic details (I think that were the terrain details) to the lowest settings, grass is no more there :(

So, I think, this has to be solve, in order to balance the game. So the graphics settings has to be chosen in the way, that lowering them, didn't bring you more advantage over the other, than without lowering it. With post processing it seems to be the same issue. Disabling this effects, gives you much clearer view on your environment than before.

I like to play with good graphics, however since I would also like to join multiplayer games, this will probably force me to lower my settings in order to get advantage over the other :)

Terrain detail and viewdistance as server side settings afaik.

Yep, though some missions have client side view/terrain options added. But for most missions, changing terrain detail/viewdistance has no effect. The only thing that helps is turning down object detail, it will make the grass appear less thick.

Also, for ArmA1 there was a cheat addon ("infinite viewdistance") enabling client side viewdistance for every MP mission.

Yep I call it a cheat addon since it's beyond dispute this gets you an unfair advantage over other players obviously not intended by the original game.

I will only remind here the simpliest exploit in Domination, after taking an enemy tank. You just go on a hill near the next city, set view distance 8km and clean the city without being seen. You can do most of this while the rest of the team is still getting close to the city...

Still, the main problem is that people have different computer configuration. Forcing 8Km view distance and high terrain details would kill half of the players performance.

Under these conditions, the best it can be done is to limit server view distance to like maximum 3000km and play in low terrain details mode (no grass), allowing people who want or afford it to set details to high.
