Can your squad still spot enemies which are clearly not visible ?

Recommended Posts

in previous versions your team mates somehow managed to spot enemies which were simply not possible to see, ie an ememy over a mountain which in reality is invisible to the whole squad.

this was one of the dumbest glitches in 1.0-1.2, has it been fixed in 1.03 ? if not... why not

The problem with AI having too good hearing has supposedly been fixed in 1.03... however instead of asking why don't you just install it and check for yourself?

I've been told to engage tanks (grenadier, mind you) and the target was 5k away.

5k away ? god... how can it be so hard for them to fix ? it's so dumb that your squad report enemies which they shouldn't be able to see. how hard can it be to patch ? did arma 1 have this problem ? and if so... was it fixed ?

1. thats not what i was asking.

That only happens if there's an ally/squadmate that is close to the tank and you are not. I.E. The Ally is only 200m away from the tank while you are 5k away.

It's a little annoying but not really a "bug".

You were asking about a problem with AI detecting units from too far away. I responded by telling you such a problem was supposedly fixed. May or may not be the same problem, who knows. Your post certainly wasn't descriptive enough.

No, they heard them. Either the engines or the weapons being fired. Also note that they often report 'unkown' for the side in such situations.

I havent tested this in 1.03 but i hope they are still able to do this, as i am able to do the same.

I have seen them report unknown for enemies that were clearly visible but perhaps a bit too far to make a determination.

Personally I really don't see an issue with this and don't know why people make such a stink about it.

As for the OP, seems to me he just wants a reason to complain.

I never did understand why people bitch so much yet keep playing. If I find a game frustrating or that contains bugs to the point that it bothers me, I quit playing it. Pretty simple solution I think.

so one of the guys in my squad magically heard some guy walking the other side of a mountain from 1000 metres away in a rain storm ? bare in mind i use £1500 Mackie Monitors and have very detailed hearing as i work in acoustic referencing... i couldn't hear a single thing and yet my squad could ? there were no shots fired whatsoever. if i can't hear anything then my squad shouldn't be able to (so long as they are next to me, which they usually are)

because its retarded, you are going about your mission then all of a sudden you get told there is an enemy and you go all cautious and then realise the guy is miles away and not even in view of the squad. It's not even remotely realistic.

wow, just wow

who said i kept on playing it, if anything the thread suggests that i haven't played it much hence why i am asking if it has been fixed. i stopped playing it because all these bugs did my head in... im sure it will be a great game, once they fix all the stupid little faults.

Thanks for stating such a fallacy, as well as being such an unhelpful individual to the thread. He answered the question. Super hearing is what made the AI detect things from miles away...

Yea, of course it's bullshit, but it was a bug, that's why I said they fixed it in 1.03... :j:

Plz read more carefully...

In the long run, the point is, a patch came out, you apparently havent tried the patch, you came on here with your rant, your still being a spiteful angry person, and you have yet to test it for yourself when he gave you an answer.

Yes, it was hearing. BIS even said they could hear a vehicle from across the map, thus why hearing was adjusted. They dont "Hear" the same way an actual person hears, so just because you have some super sound system, doesn't mean you are going to hear what they hear. What they "hear" is simply a string of commands and coding telling them what they hear...

I never said that the AI hearing would be influenced by anything like tanks or rain. I havent done proper testing on this but im pretty sure that the hearing consists of nothing more of the AI hearingsensivityvalue and the audiblevalue in the config thrown together into a simple linear formula.

Also, stop exaggerating. It just makes the whole discussion confusing. The AI wont even report anyone over a 1000 meters with a clear line of sight.

Actually that is inaccurate. I did have an instance where the AI did visually see (my spotter when I was a sniper) an AI soldier from over 1000 meters away. It was 1.5 meters away. He said "Enemy soldier far"

ok, from what i had read that hearing bug was only related to the AI hearing you rather than your AI hearing other AI. I was obviously mistaken.

So you are saying this no longer happens and your ai will only report things which are actually audible within the game or in view ?

If so, sweet and thanks

In the long run, the point is, a patch came out, you apparently havent tried the patch,

it wasn't a rant, it was a question

lol, spiteful angry person ? christ... over react much

it's "you're" not "your" btw

I have said that i don't have time to test it myself, hence why i posted this thread. sorry i don't spend my life playing video games, i have a family to support and a job to do. I probably won't get a chance to play the game for another 4 or so weeks. I realise the reality of real life may be lost on some of you...

I just tried and all i could say is 'could not reproduce'.

I placed me and 1 friendly on on end of the paved runway, and 2 enemies placed on the other end were walking in the middle of it towards us. My squadmate reported them as unknown/far at about 400-500 meters every time* and at the same time his knowsabout value about them went up. At that point their knowabout about us was still 0 because we hadnt moved at all yet. Quite soon after that my squadmate indentified them as enemies and opened fire at which point their knowsabout also shot up.

(I checked this by constantly globalchatting the distance and knowsabout between all the units with some triggers)

Demo mission available if wanted.

Though i do not believe that you are lying, maybe the AI shared knowledge between groups? Were guard waypoints involved or were they spotted by other friendly units?

EDIT: Moosed, i dont think i ever said that. ;)

Different strokes for different folks I suppose.

I just don't see how something so inconsequential could ruin gameplay. If the spotted enemy is not in range then why worry about it? Now if the issue was that they didn't call out enemies until it was too late, then I'd agree with you. Honestly though, I haven't really even noticed this particular problem (or maybe it's just that I'm too busy enjoying the other 90% of the game that works so very well.)

@ nemisis : i know you didn't say that... "from what i read" meant from what id read of the threads about the super hearing, not this thread specifically.

its not that alone which stopped me playing, its countless things such as all the campaign bugs, the "recieving" error during multiplayer and many more things.
