Sli Question & 1.03 Errors and Comments

Recommended Posts

Gday Guys,

Sli Query

Could someone please be so kind and explain to me why my graphics cards are utilized more in SLI when Objects are closer to the screen? (I think)

For example, I have Fraps and the Sli indicator bars activated. When I am 100% zoomed out of the map screen I get 13FPS with 0% Sli activation. When I zoom 100% into the map I get 1500FPS with 50% Sli activation. It seems kind of counter intuitive to me. I would expect more Sli activation when you are zoomed out and trying to handle more stuff on screen.

A similar thing happens in the ARMA2 Benchmark in the very first scene with the two cars. When the car being tracked is at its closest to the screen, the Sli indicators reach for the sky!

1.03 Stuff

1) & 2) aren't really a problem.

1) Does anyone get the in game error message "Sound Counter not found" when loading campaigns? It comes up just prior to the fast forwarding digital clock that lets you know how much time has passed since your last campaign. It isn't a problem since there is an option to continue.

2) Arma2 crashed with the error message "Cannot Commit".

Does anyone know what this means?

This occurred in the initial gameplay stages of Red Razor (the search mission). While the officer was blabbing away I hopped into the nearest hummer and ordered my troops to get in. The order wasn't issued straight away since the officer's dialogue had not yet completed. Once he had finished, Arma2 Crashed and up popped that error message.

I went back into the mission and this time just stood there and listened to him and after he had finished I issued the orders to get into the hummer and no error came up.

3) Can anyone else not open the Arma2 benchmark with v1.03?!? Arma2, for me freezes during the loading and displays "Arma2 stopped working - Check online for solutions?"

1.03 noted improvements (for me)

- Changing the view distances doesn't affect FPS as much.

- Less flickering.

- Zooming used to chug a bit, but now FPS increase as I zoom (slightly)!

- The Ai don't seem to land perfect shots as much. I play on Expert mode with Super AI enabled. After 1.03, any other setting makes me feel like I am playing against bags of meat.

Oh and I am running the steam version

I get the same problem....posted in a different threat (see below)

Same problem for me too after updating to 1.03 and starting a new campaign. This error happens at the beginning of every new mission.

Any time you see your SLI indicators shrink it's because your PC is being limited by the CPU. As you can see this happens quite a lot in Arma. You can even see it reflected in the temps of your GPU's. They can reach their full operating temp on your own, in a forest in the editor, but much less online in a cpu intensive mission. So when you zoom in you are cutting down the amount of objects that the CPU has to calculate

In the editor, have a look at your indicators in the middle of Chenogorsk compared to the middle of a forest. Another thing you can do is, again, go into the editor (a forest) and slowly raise your view distance and you will see your indicators shrink as the cpu becomes more of a limit.

This happens with all games to a certain extent but in Arma2 it is more obvious because of the unmerciful beating our CPU's are taking from things like AI calculations and (supposedly) complicated buildings.
