Tracer 0 Posted March 18, 2002 Right, Doom started the ball rolling with a huge amount of manuals covering all aspects of making levels and inc mods etc I personaly think i have one of the best released for Doom; Hank Leukart - The Doom Hackers Guide which inc just about *all* editors released for Doom and mods on a CD as well as a 300page book released 1995. Now i personaly think that OFP is crying out for an official book(s) covering simple/complex example tutorials on most of the editors functions? I'm sick to the back teeth of printing hundreds of pages from websites -downloading and burning examples/tuts on CDs, when i really want a HANDY manual to cross reference at my leisure  I'm not bothered if the manual had to come out in several volumes, because OFPs Editor has such power that it would be a worthy investment. I have been working for a while away from home and come back to to do some editing and find that i have forgotten a helluva lot and making *mistakes* with correct strings etc. I have had to wade through all my OFP stuff to get started again...........and it aint fun  So i personaly think it's about time that BIS produced a manual(s) Please vote Tracer

I have been using the editor since the game was released in the UK. But you missed my point entirely, it's fantastic if you are at school/unemployed or whatever. But when you are working long shifts and maybe get around to playing/editing once twice a week, the *LAST* thing i want to do is trawl the internet wasting my day's off looking for a particular answer as to "how to do" etc. I WANT a hard copy of a manual in my hand so that i *can* read it at work in lunch breaks. wamingo 1 Posted March 19, 2002 Doom is like water next to OFP's scripting posibilities. And while doom has the ability to "make worlds", and ofp does not - they're premade, the sheer scripting abilities would far surpas doom in book size. I think BIS's XML reference is pretty good, but could use some updates with for instance full list of official weapons and actions units can do and explanation to each one, propper linking to the respective sections, and perhaps a second example to the extensive commands would be nice. but it'll come I'm sure It's nice to have a book so you don't have to have either a second monitor or alt-tab out of the editor all the time... but the ability to search/copy&paste like you can with the XML reference, is much nicer in my opinion... toadlife 3 Posted March 21, 2002 The poll choices are not very well written, so I wont vote. I suggest you download the "How to do Everything" manual at the editing center. It's very comprehensive, and will take up many of your lunches at work. It sounds like you just don't ahve the time for OFP editing. I suggest cutting back on non-essential things such as sleep and food. Depending on how much you cut back on both, it should clear up quite a bit of time valuable time for OFP editing. By the way, we are working on purging the fourms at the ed-center of all usefull information and are going to plop everything into one big database. We allready have a database but it was compiled quite awhile a go. As soon as it is done, it should be quite a gathering of OFP editing information. I'll see if we can't compile that into some sort of book form, and maybe sell it on E-bay for 5.95 plus S/H. The ed center desperatly needs money to stay afloat anyway. It's 'buy' or 'download/trawl the web' It don't get much clearer than that -*considering* that is the ONLY 2 options that the gamer has! Correct? Or is it because you want us to pay for your unoffical book I think i would be seeing my lawyers first, considering that a high percentage of the OFP public have submitted material that they *own*! That would make them elligible for a part of any profits YOU make Anyway,I DON'T want to print out reams of paper full of mistakes *unless* they are proof read/tested first (i am sick of downloading scripts/advanced tuts, then buring them to CD, only to find that the person A)can't spell or B)Hasn't tested it properly. AAAAAAAAAAAARGGHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!! That is why i WANT an Official Editing Manual that does what it says on the box
