when you zooming in, and the grid numbers become 3digits, that means each square is 100m. when the number is only 2digit, each square is 1km

My personal method is to expand the compass, rotate my player (ins/del) so the compass lines up with my two points I want to measure between, and then scale the map (Num_+/Num_-) such that the ends of the straight edge side of the compass are on those two points.

Once I have a situation where the compass edge goes from the two points I want to measure I rotate again so the compass edge is horizontal, drag it over to the map scale (map scale MIA since ArmA1 so use a grid square), line up one end of the compass edge with the end of the scale (or a vertical line of a grid square), and then put your mouse on the next scale mark or grid square line.

Click and hold the mouse and drag the compass edge from one mark to the previous mark on the scale. Repeat this process until you have a length of compass edge that's not a full drag's worth. Estimate what fraction is remaining and sum up all the drags, multiplying by the drag scale to get the distance.

I'll make some screenshots to make it more clear. Using a grid square you can get accuracy to 10m pretty easily.

Yes please for the screenshot, yours method seems much more precise, while mine was merely just a rough estimation... very-very rough.

Sometimes I really wished I had the Chernarus map on hand, so I can draw on the map (with transparent plastic cover ofcourse, dont want to ruin it). Mark point A to point B and use some ruller to measure the distance (guestimate ofcourse)

Number 12: Estimate remainder

I'd say just shy of 520m (5.2 x 100m) but more than 510m. It's easier to do when there's a scale on the map like ArmA1 had.
