Yomping 4 Heroes is an initiative to help raise money for Help For Heroes.

The three of us will be yomping 56 miles (90k) over Dartmoor carrying 80lb (6stone/36kg) loads in 3 days -- just as the British Forces did from San Carlos to Stanley during the Falklands War.

It'll take place in October so we're busy with training, but in the meantime you can still visit our donation page to help in any way you can, at

http://www.justgiving.com/yomping4heroes

and at our offcial website

http://www.yomping4heroes.com

We will be extremely grateful for any donations and support recieved between now and the event.

Thank you!

Happy to help you mate.

Good luck with your training. I don't envy your task, but it's definitely worthwhile.

90km, 36Kg, Dartmoor, in October?! Niiiiiice...... Well good luck! Watch your ankles over the tussocks! I would also say have fun, but I really can't see any way in which that is possible.

Thanks for the support guys :)

Our first day of team training went well! At roughly 11am on Saturday we set off from the Plume of Feathers pub in Princetown and headed towards Burrator via a number of tors. The route saw us take on a bog, two river crossings and a couple of very steep tors. You can see our GPS tracked route here: http://gpsed.com/track/4349615497086600560

All in all it went very well – no injuries to report. Not a blister in sight. But a couple of lessons learnt… Waterproof boots aren’t actually waterproof (despite it being written along the side of my boots!), avoid bogs at all costs (almost doing a face-plant into knee-deep mud, although funny, is not an ideal thing to do!), and finally if you put your mind to it, you can accomplish anything. We finished in great time and realised our fitness levels were higher than expected.

Our 2nd team training day is tomorrow, this time were goign further while carrying more weight!

Will be covering about 10miles and carrying approx 40lbs each, that is half of our 1st day distance and half of the actual sponsored yomp weight :)

I took the GF for a 8mile yomp yesterday where i carried 40lbs, went great no problems to report, the missus on the otherhand... few blisters aches and pains :)

You can now follow us on Twitter! www.twitter.com/yomping4heroes

Wonderful initiative for a great cause - Wish you the best of luck, and I hope it'll be as grand an experience as it seems to promise to be.

And by the way, if you don't have them already, and indeed, if you still have time or oppurtunity to procur kit for the final trek; I dearly recommend some Sealskinz socks (or similar waterproof socks). Don't want to turn this thread into a plug for waterproof garments of any kind, but they've made my autumn/early winter treks in the mountains here in Sweden a lot more enjoyable. Held my feet dry even when my boots were soaked to the proverbial bone.

Once again, best of luck lads!

There was no team training last weekend due to prior arrangements, i however managed to dislocate two fingers on my left hand whilst playing in goal on sunday :)

We have our interview/photoshoot booked with the Herald this sunday so were looking forward to that, our team t-shirts arrived and they look absolutley fab.

Planning continues and donatations are still coming in on and offline, if you havent done so yet then please do, its a fantastic cause and we need all the support you can give us!

It was a really good week this week, We have featured in the local press, we have recieved over £600 in donations including giftaid in total now and we did a short midweek training session. It saw us Yomp 4 miles through the city in 1hour 20mins at a reasonable steady pace, i was personally carrying a huge 65lbs in my bergan, could certainly feel it in my neck and shoulders come the end ! :)

We have a much longer route planned for bank holiday monday so no day of rest for us! annother evening midweek training session will be held also.

Our Facebook group now has over 150 members which is fantastic and support continues to grow

6 weeks today is day one of the yomp :)
