Your favourite vehicle in ARMA 2

Recommended Posts

80 Abrams were destroyed or badly damaged (enough that they had to be shipped back to the U.S.) in combat just in the first two years. That's more than a bunch. (http://www.usatoday.com/news/world/iraq/2005-03-29-abrams-tank-a_x.htm)

Who knows how many more after that, but probably very few this year. They may be one of the best tanks in the world, but they're not invulnerable. And any tank can be immobilized by a simple detreading.

More on topic, I would really like Arma 2's Abrams TUSK except for a couple of weird bugs. The loader can't turn in, so he's always partially exposed. And the driver can't turn out, so he can never have a good field of view driving in safe areas.

They are not the best tanks in the world.

Sorry, misread your post. Didn't see the "one of"

BMP. it is light enough to roar around and has enough firepower to have some bite backing its roar. running around in a bmp makes me go "Im a tank! F$%@K YEA im a TANK! you are all gonna die cus im a M0#%#@%#NG TANK" and then i get blown up by anything larget than a 7.62 bullet lol.

That made me laugh--I know what you mean. Especially the BMP-3, which really starts to look like a tank, except when it gets hit. But man, can it dish it out--you've got a 100mm cannon, ATGM, 30mm autocannon, coax machine gun, and then just for the hell of it, they put two more machine guns in the bow. That's just crazy firepower.

the blackhawk, love flying those ever since desert combat mod for bf42 except in bf2 they kinda sucked.

Are you on crack? The Blackhawk in BF2 was the most overpowered thing in the game. The miniguns had a splash damage that was comparable to a hand grenade, you could have people resupplying ammo from on-board, people healing everyone on-board, and people repairing it in-flight.

The miniguns dealt damage such that a few seconds of concentrated fire would destroy a TANK. And with 6 people on board it'd capture flags in a few seconds. There's a reason why there were 'Blackhawk' squads where everyone had hundreds of points.

The only surefire way to keep them out of the air was to suicide a MiG into them.

None of them. They all are damaged way too easily. 3 RPGs to a M1A2 would NOT destroy it NOR disable it.

RPG's can destroy M1a2's it depends on the round u use

Name Type Diameter Penetration

PG-7V Single-stage HEAT 85 mm (3.35 in) > 330mm

PG-7VL Single-stage HEAT 93 mm (3.65 in) >500mm

PG-7VR Tandem HEAT 105 mm (4.1 in) 600-700

Yeah thats more like it. The M1A2 has around 900 ish frontal armor, but dosent have that much in the side or rear. PG-7V's wouldnt do enough damge, but VL's and VR's, if 2 or more were fired into the rear or side armor, could cause ome REAL damage. However, VR's arent very common in Iraq, as they are new warheads no longer exported. I would assume moste of the insurgents in iraq use PG-7V's, and maybe the occasional VL.

The rocket hits the TOP of the tank (least armored part FYI), bounces off, and damages the Raytheon. Thats all the damage it did. I'll admit the Raytheon is a very expensive component which tax payers had to pay to replace, but other than that not a scratch. I saw all of this from a FLIR.

What is a Raytheon?

Edit: On topic, I've been enjoying the Harrier lately.

I also love the Hind, it's the epitome of rotary winged badassery. Too bad I cant hit the broadside of a barn with it. But then, it carries enough firepower to just plaster the entire hill with explosions. Kill 'em all and let God sort 'em out!

Hmm, the hind is a bit funny, seems almost any small hit kills the engine. Quite annoying. But yeah, it looks badass.

glad to see i'm not the only one that has love for the bmp3, it's a beast against all types of vehicles and the best infantry support vehicle out there, it can lay all kinds of destructive suppressive fire to cover advancing infantry unlike it's marine counterparts which seem lacking in comparison.

T-34 :)

Can I change my vote to the T-34? I mean, I can't believe they put it in there. It's incredible, and I love the T-34, but it's so out of place. What? did the insurgents steal it from the Chernorussian Museum of the Great Patriotic War? I guess it's conceivable that one could be made battle ready, and they were used by many countries well after WWII, but a T-55 would've made more sense.

...so bring on the Eastern Front mods!

I'll bet what happened with the T-34 is that were making the model for one of the war memorial monuments, and they just figured, "Hey, let's just make this a playable vehicle while we're at it." Yeah, a T-55 would be more useful since they are still common in backwater armies. But T-34s were still being used in the Yugoslavian wars in the 1990s.

What is a Raytheon?

I think he means the gun optics and Thermal Imaging sight which are made by Raytheon.

That sounds like a very good guess. Now I remember seeing one in that large northern costal village.

I didn't know they were in use during the Yugoslav wars. That's very interesting. Before I knew that, I was impressed that German Ausf IV tanks were used in the 6 Day War during the mid '60s.

One of my thoughts was that it was a symbol of some really old CDF unit that had its histoy going back to the time when they fought for the USSR in WWII. So its kind of like their mascot and NAPA just stole it from them as a punch to the stomach kind of deal like "Hey CDF look at us we have your mascot!".

My favourite would have to be KA-52

But i would prefer a KA-50 single seat version (V-80) like in OFP as u can fully control all weapons and don't need a pilot and gunner to work properly

BTR-90! It's pretty agile over any terrain, it has a weapon for all types of social events, and you can bring a bunch of your friends with you.

The Americans should buy the British Mark 2 chobham armour (Dorchester I think) as it is much better in dealing with RPG hits. No Challenger 2s have been lost to enemy fire - friendly fire on the other hand...:j:

I love the Harrier and Warthog, great planes :)

The civilian bus. Amazing how many soldiers you can pack into that thing.

Ka-52 is a nice one too.

Um...obviously the Cobra attack chopper...or any of the game's gunships. They all go well with "Flight of the Valkyries!" :yay:

Mi-24P for me here. Why would you even bother to use the V? this thing has 4 AT missiles, hundreds of 80mm rockets, a 30mm cannon, AND 2 bombs!!!!

Although I love the T-90 and it's Refleks missile. Too bad m1a2s alway own you before you can follow the shot up with a SABOT.

If you remember in the 2006 Lebanon conflict, the hamas guys used advanced AT missiles, including the kornet, Metis M and konkours. Quite a few merkava 4s, with comparable armor To the M1, were totally lost. The US is lucky that the afghanis and the iraqiis don't have heavy ATGMs
