Loose cannon AI teammates

Recommended Posts

I am not sure whether this is a bug and therefore I place this thread here in form of a question.

1. The plan was to have one of my teammates place C4, then we carefully retreat and at the right moment I, the leader, would order him to set it off. Result: after placing the satchel charge my subordinate moves away as ordered and then at a certain distance touches off the charges automatically and the mission goes to @^&*$

2. Situation number 2: I ordered my team to hold fire and switched to AT weapon to prepare for assault, then I switched to a team mate that was a few kilometers in order to do something else and guess what, before I could twitch a muscle, the team leader, who was now under AI control, fires the AT missile and the mission goes to the &*(#$. I'm guessing this is because you can't order yourself to hold fire.

Is there a way to hold AI from these strange rogue actions?

I can't get my men to hold fire either, it is SO irritating. Maybe they shoot because they feel threatened and mean they HAVE to fire.

1.) There are two good possibilities here. Either A you accidently told him to set the timer or B he got out of the range at which he could touch off the bomb and so blew it up.

2.) I can't think of a solution here.

Yea i hate when you switch from the team leader to another sqaud member and then the team leader opens fire. If only you could set him up like the other ai when you make the switch.

Your own leader seems to only be settable to "hold fire" if you originally don't control him and he his waypoint is set to "hold fire". Either way, though, "hold fire" will still not stop them from opening fire on enemies that detected them. As soon as the enemy gains awareness of them they will use their psychic abilities and shoot him, often before he opens fire, making it look like they didn't follow orders while in fact they were shooting at an immediate threat (or not).

When an AI has satchels he seems to always blow them up when he's at least X meters away. Even if you placed the satchels and ran the soldier away, as soon as you switch off of him the satchels will explode. No idea if there is a way to fix it or not, I hope there is though as this can really suck...

I have a solution to the teamswitch issue. Put all of his weapons on the ground.

Well there are workarounds to a degree

to 1

I discovered that beyond a certain range you can't set off your charges so all you have to do is to take control of your teammate and get him far away enough so that when you switch teams, nothing gets triggered. Then you have to let him move towards the explosives to get him in range an boom. But this is of course extremely unaccurate. I do think this is a bug and it's worth fixing.

to 2

I figured out that the AI won't fire if you just get them behind a hill or make life difficult in a different way. The problem was that I changed to the AT weapon and pointed it at the target in preparation for the strike so my leader used it as soon as I teamswitched. If you put the leader into a position where he has to work to fire at the enemy then the AI will be too lazy to do so. Again, this is not a solution. Really, there should be a way to order yourself to hold fire.

These two issues are annoying when fused. You wait in ambush with the charges ready to blow and you got yourself a dilemma: if you switch from your teammate who placed the explosives, they will blow up prematurely. If you stay with the team mate, your leader will remain standing and will even open fire at the convoy.

Its really annoying when your trying to set up an ambush or get everyone in good firing positions before attacking, but they take it upon themselves to disable your hold fire command & fire anyway!

I too have problems controlling the team mates. One especially annoying bug is when an enemy is bugged out and just stands there and can't die or is already dead, the AI wasted all my ammo shooting at it with my apc while I was trying to get him to hold fire :(

... I've had this happen on a few occasions during Warfare matches. I've even tried to run the bugged enemy over with a Ural and he just sits there. Good news is at least he is not firing back at us... heh..

Try the combat modes. Only on Safe headlights should be always on. Though I don't know if the enemy ai will realy spot them earlier by their headlights.
