marcomio 0 Posted August 23, 2009 Good to hear, that it runs with Windows 7. :) Release is roughly planned for end of september, because there are still some places to be textured and some objects to be placed. SOMETHING I'VE FORGOTTEN TO ASK: Should I release a completely non-addon version of Kolgujev first? Now there are still many differnt addons implementet on the island (many from Mapfact, F3WX Objects, Farmland Objects... just to name some of them) as you might have seen on some screenshots. Otherwise it will be bunch of addons to download. :( Things like better vegetation etc. must wait, till some good replacement stuff is found, I think. (Anyway, now I can order Windows 7 without great risk!) :) cheers, marcomio :)
stgn 39 Posted August 23, 2009 I would like a vanilla version. STGN
-martin- 10 Posted August 23, 2009 You could release a non-addon version for people who prefer it like that but I'm definetly gonna download the addon version :bounce3:
Addonis 10 Posted August 24, 2009 @marcomio: Won't you use flora from Nogova?
marcomio 0 Posted August 24, 2009 Yes, I already replaced most of the Kolgujev vegetation with their resistance counterparts, as far as there were some. Needle-forest ist also resistance stuff. Some single trees or bushes might have been overseen, but they will be replaced before Kolgujev is ready for release (ca. end of september). Sometimes I thought about replacing the woods by the akat-trees of Nogova, but this would destroy the rough atmosphere of Kolgujev Island I fear. Other Vegetation packages would be only of interest, when they are bug-free. But there is still some time till any release version is ready. :)
Addonis 10 Posted August 25, 2009 In my opinion there is no sence thinking about trees other than needle in Kolgujev forests. This island should be keep in taiga climate :)

marcomio 0 Posted September 6, 2009 Hi, mates! Due to some fishy and unreproducible Applicationerror in WrpTool, I have to load the last running version of my backup Kolgujev, which is aged some days, so many changes has to be newly redone. That will last a bit, so the release of the Island has to be postponed for some weeks again. Also, there will no Vanilla version of Kolgujev released at first, because it is to timeconsuming to delete or replace all this addons with default stuff etc.. Sorry for that. If this error occurs again, I will have to wait until I installed Vista/Windows 7 on my comp, because of its ability to cope with more than 3 GB of RAM and the huge ammount of data, which has to be processed in the WRP-Tool application, to get ridd of this damn error-messages and breakdowns! (I hate it!!!) cheers, marcomio
domokun 515 Posted September 21, 2009 Marco: sorry to hear about WRP's weirdness. I'm really looking forward to trying these out!
marcomio 0 Posted September 22, 2009 Hello, Everyone! I hope to release a first version of redone kolgujev replacement textures in 2048 resolution next week (or following). It is not as good as it could have been, if wrp tool and my terrible big sized texture-pack would have fit together. But there is an undefined border, at which the tool keeps crashing. Not to misunderstand: It was never thought and designed to handle these ammount of texture data reasond on the 2048x2048 high res factor. So this is no critisizm to it's developers. Far from it, the crew looked for a workaround but couldn't help out, because WRP-tool is not longer supported. In principle it means following: Actually working on a kind of compromise - which really don't suit myself - where I will decrease the grass texture to only one type, to get place for other relevant textures like concrete areas or grass-patches / triple coloured tiles. Maybe, I have to create two kinds of texture packs because of this problem. One more greenish textures and one more desert textures. Means, one will have more green texture variants and woodtextures, which would be absolutely not necessary for desert-environments, which deserves more stone and sand-texturing. You see, it is not easy. For myself, I wished to have only one big texture-pack, containing all the texture-variants in one download. But I have to accept, that this don't work for me and so I might have to divide them into two different texture packs. :( If you like, stay tuned. Otherwise I'm sorry, that it don't runs like I wished. Take a drink an have a nice day (or night), marcomio :)

Take a drink an have a nice day (or night), Why don't you resize the original textures in the folder (still keeping the same file anmes and everything) that you use for wrptool in to e.g. 256x256 and the original high resolution textures that are in the .pbo file that the game engne actually uses will remain 2048x2048, this way wrptool wont have a problem with them and will be faster and you will get result you want in game :)
marcomio 0 Posted September 23, 2009 Uuuhhh!! Ouch!! Don't laugh....Never took this in consideration, because of... ahh...of...you know??! :( Is there a batchconversion tool for resizing pacfiles available? Or do I have to resize the whole tga files and convert them afterwards in pac-files for use in the wrp tool? (This is appr. 190 files heavy work). :( :( :( :)

(This is appr. 190 files heavy work). I'm not sure about that one, I know there is a utility from Microsoft called ImageResizer, it comes from the Microsoft Power Toys pack for WIndows XP, it should work on Vista/Windows 7 too. It allows you to select multiple files in a folder, right click them a resize them but I dont know if it supports the .tga file format. After resizing it adds (Small) after the file name so you would still have to edit the file names for all files :( Or you would have to reszie the textures by hand and that is hard work indeed :( As for the multiple image converter as far as I know there is one for .png to .paa for ArmA but I had problems using the ArmA .paa files in OFP befrore :(
marcomio 0 Posted September 25, 2009 Hi, Everybody! After several systemrepairs and then only using the right mouse button "open file with....", I am again able to work with texview 1. Problems might depend on the upgrade from XP to Vista and keeping alot of old files, some only worked in compability mode. Anyway, I can resume work on my textures now, so for me it is done, even it don't work 100 percent correct. Tks again to you All for kind support. marcomio :)
marcomio 0 Posted September 29, 2009 (edited) Release of Kolgujev (vanilla version) with the new texture pack in 2048x2048 resolution. That is truly a beta stage, so don't expect too much right now. There are still some areas and textures which needs to be reworked. Addon version will surely follow as soon as I get some permissions and as soon as some nice addons will be finnished. The texture pack itself will be updated in the future, because of some missing textures, which are necessary for the other BIS islands. Now you can test those textures ingame and let me know, if you are satisfied with them or if you have some suggestions to be taken in consideration in the next update. All constructive critizism is wellcome. DUE TO SOME PROBLEMS, DL-LINKS REMOVED. Sorry, mates marcomio Edited October 1, 2009 by marcomio
