rejenorst 18 Posted July 24, 2009 (edited) Hi I managed to get a copy of Arma2 and have started to work on The Cause 2, it will likely not be out until next year but feel free to jot any like to see ideas or things to avoid that you didn't like in the original. This is a really quick and crappy vid of the campaign intro i messed around with, im still fleshing out plot points that are mission relevant. EDIT: I'm planning to make the campaign from the Russian side perspective, if you have any ideas/ suggestions /comments or crits let me know. ** UPDATE*** 11th September 09 Small concept test for the first mission (without voices or added sfx). This would basically be mission 0. An intro mission that involves the player attempting to escape the country/get to the Russian peacekeepers base. The rest of the missions take place a few months later or so. (not finalized yet.) If I can figure out how to implement soldiers carrying bodies via the module and script then I might use that for the intro to the mission as well or instead of the two civs getting shot. EDIT: Movie a little choppy at beginning due to fraps, thanks. Edited September 11, 2009 by Rejenorst

froggyluv 2136 Posted July 24, 2009 The Cause was awesome! Best Mission/Campaign I've played for Arma and most definitely looking forward to 2!
IAmMarshicus 10 Posted July 24, 2009 Nice, never played The Cause 1 because I never had ArmA 1. This looks promising though.

techie714 10 Posted July 24, 2009 Oh man I remember The Cause, this guy KNOWS how to make an awesome mission & campaign. We are all very lucky to have his talents here with us today. I just wish we would get something before next year. But the high quality he brings to his stuff takes time I guess.
Shadow NX 1 Posted July 24, 2009 Definatly one of the best campaigns for ArmA1 and that new trailer looks very well made. Seems we play the Partisans this time, was hoping for a russian campaign but i guess Partisans can also be a intresting topic ( as Resistance showed back in OFP ). rejenorst 18 Posted July 25, 2009 (edited) Thank you all for the very nice feedback :) Am really glad you all enjoyed The Cause. Looking good Rejenorst. :bounce3:If you want to help out bringing The Cause - Chapter 1 to ArmA II, please read more here: Project OAC. Rejenorst kindly has agreed to it and gave us his permission. :) I forgot to mention this, Project OAC will bring The Cause 1 to Arma2. The Cause 2 will follow a similar story line with some divergence while the missions will be very different from The Cause 1 so I hope that people will still enjoy playing both The Cause 1 and The Cause 2. Theres alot of things I wanted to try that I never got around to doing in Arma1. The Cause 2 will be around 10 missions probably. In addition The Cause 2 will be played from the Russian persepective rather than the partisan. Let me know your thoughts on this. You play a Russian soldier who is part Chernurussian. Alpha-Kilo 36 Posted July 25, 2009 To me the faction I play in a campaign is not important. This is a game and the story is all that matters. The only possible disadvantage I see in the Russian perspective is the language. In ArmA2 everybody speaks in their own language so I guess you will use subtitles in your campaign. I don't have anything against subtitles in a film but in a game I find them distracting. Assuming that the Russian-speaking part of the community has every right to feel similarly this obviously is not a very good argument, just a selfish opinion. rejenorst 18 Posted July 27, 2009 Can you please not make that soldier turn coats half way through the campaign like in happened in Red Hammer. 100% Russian perspective please, without deep moral dilemmas and treason by mission 5 :) If you've played The Cause you'll know that I stick by the side I am portraying but there will always be moral dilemmas which I love to portray but they will be spread out so no matter where you look its all grey not black. I am not 100% certain with the story yet apart from the fact that you'll be hunting two things personally (1 your family's killer(s)) and (2 your brother) while working on the mission objectives. I am exploring at keeping personal objectives seperate to mission objectives. Mother Russia will hardly make it its mission to help you with all your personal issues so I am seeing where these tie in as your brother will play a major role in the story. To me the faction I play in a campaign is not important. Yeah I am having trouble with this, I think I will mix it up a bit but make it english for the important bits. I can't speak Russian so even if I tried to mimic the language as I did for Mountain Thunder, I doubt anyone even the Russians will understand what I am saying as Russian pronounciation is difficult. I only know how to say few words, dosvidania, Nyet, Tavarish etc but I can blame it on the Chernarussian accent :) Im looking for possible examples of foreign language speaking units within the Russian Army but I doubt I'll find anything. eirulan 10 Posted July 27, 2009 Great news ! I liked a lot the Cause Chapter 1. It was my favourite free campaign.Great storyline. SUGGESTION FOR CAUSE 2. For Rejenorst: - Could you introduce a love story between a Partisan (man: Russian ethnic group) and a Chernarus CDF spy (woman) - the woman (CDF spy) must spy the Russian partisan, but then fall in love with him, understand his reason, and "marry" the "Cause" - then the two fight together against USMC and CDF, after having found CDF mass murder somewhere.... - they have to fight, because a high rank CDF officer want to kill the woman (she betrayed CDF) - the end is up to you... (could be escape to Acapulco...:p) (To be clear: I like United States, but just to be original, I propose a plot like this)
KaarelAr 10 Posted July 27, 2009 Will you make a new map for this campaign? If so, good luck. I hope you make a new map beacause I have played the chernarus and utes for so long, it's getting boring.
mr_centipede 31 Posted July 28, 2009 I'm sure he'll use Chernarus... That place is huge... I havent explore the whole real estate yet... Black lake is kinda pretty.. Looks like where fairies and gnomes lives. But that's kinda offtopic.
RedRage 0 Posted July 28, 2009 I'm an opposite to eirulan on this - less melodrama and more tactically sound action. Soldier does not have neither time nor access for love stores, personal vengence quests or anything of that sort. Looking for "war crimes" was bad enough in the campaign. More interesting, IMHO, concept would be a rotation of a life of Russian Forward Operating Base in the middle of guerilla insurgency. Rushing to the aid of an ambushed re-supply convoy, fending off a determined night attack, search for downed gunship, sudden sniper attacks, conducting recon patrols (sometimes with contact and sometimes without to add to the tension) all sound more interesting to me. Personal aspect could be developed in relationship of soldiers posted at base - some becoming heroes, some cowards, some dying and some slipping into madness. A platoon sized unit would provide plenty of characters. Would be a more belivable plot, and that will add greatly to the immersion (at least for me). Also just a note, Wass pointed out how to disable core conversations via this setVariable ["BIS_noCoreConversations", true, true] Which I will add where appropriate. Been tearing my hair trying to find out how to do that. Edited September 11, 2009 by Rejenorst
rejenorst 18 Posted December 19, 2009 I am a little behind on my shedule and I have been experimenting with a mission that takes place at the factory. I've been doing some scripting to get units to move around inside the factory, camp, move etc and although that's all good and well I am just wondering if that makes for a fun mission in the minds of players. Just wanted you feedback, so far mission 1 is done as are its cutscenes, mission 3 is almost done and I am now toying with mission 2 which was under the lines of CDF milita raids into Red Star territory with you as part of the Russian peacekeeping forces trying to sort out the situation. I've just been testing the scripts and heres a quick play, is anyone interested in these indoor type missions? <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ijSEMvQWMTQ&hl=en_US&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ijSEMvQWMTQ&hl=en_US&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>
