Bitter Chill - I keep dying - script or bug?

After investigating the FOB Manhattan, where Simmons died my task is get to the evac zone, 9 clicks away. Every time i pass 7500m I die. Either my humvee explodes all of nothing or, if I'm on foot, I hear several gunfires in the distance and I get shot to death, even though there's no opfor anywhere around.

I tried starting the mission all over again, same thing happens.

Help.

edit. Nevermind. Just realised I could just call in the transport instead of fleeing to EZ myself. Too ambitious, anyway that would be some cool task to do, make 9 clicks within 20 mins under fire, wouldn't it? :)

I have the same problem. Except I made it all the way to 2300meters of the objective. At 2300 meters exactly no matter where I am on this "invisible line" I get killed.

I took the troop transport truck left at FOB Manhattan all the way down to that point avoiding all sorts of engagements and now it won't let me finish. I have about 10 minutes to cover the 2300 meters which is entirely possible..

But now im trying in a civvy sedan and i drove straight past an enemy patrol and they didnt fire on me. I wonder. Couldnt finish the mission as I had to go to work. ( there now ). But im hopping it will let me past the magical line too.

No chance.

If you try to go it alone in this mission you will die. It is a bit lame but that's the way it is. Use search if you want to find out more information about the Bitter Pill mission.

Never had this happen to me, but i heard that there is some sort of insta-kill trigger in the south that players can't pass. annoying and not really realistic.

Why cant a SPECIAL FORCES squad make it alone, the SAS can do it just to give an example (ever heard of Chris Ryan or Bravo two zero). So it is completely illogical that they can't even if they are American (not to cause offense but even Americans can do that)

Well, after helo crash I went to CDF.

Anyway, there's definitely some trigger which prevents making it to the evac zone. So all you can do is to call in the transport helo @ FOB Manhattan after investigating combat site. If you go further, like 7.800m from evac zone and then call the helo then you will die onboard after passing 7.500m line.

Sucks. Helo crashes anyway so...

It would be great if we had two possible scenarios - one, when your helo actually gets you to the evac zone and the mission ends and another, when it crashes and you have to go either to NAPA or CDF.

It got all so linear. :/

Most games wouldn't give you the choice between NAPA and the CDF so I am glad I got that. What would you do if you did reach the evac point? End the campaign? A bit inconclusive. Note I haven't got past Dogs of War yet so don't ruin anything for me.

If we exclude the possible scenario of a different mission branch then you could be just sent again in CR as a covert op and the rest of campaign would be as it is.

That kind of takes the point out of it though.

Nope, just have it so that regardless if you make it on time or not "sorry guys, we couldn't wait around any longer".

or if you did get close the the evac point have a voice script, "place is crawling with russian soldiers, we're going to try to reach the NAPA or CDF."

either way the 'auto kill' script is kind of lame, I did manage to get to 2000m of the evac but as soon as I got out of the hummer (out of gas) you just hear gunshots and you die.

Getting evacuated back to the carrier would be quite a good starting point for the warfare missions, this time on USMC side (allied with CDF).

tried to escape in the sedan but no different

I took the evac option and got shot down

in the end i think getting shot down and then having to evade the patrols to get to the napa safe house was quite good:yay:

Bah, this script is pissing me off! After chosing to attempt to get to the evac zone (why would the player order in the chopper immediately after being told of SAM installations in the area), then reach the either the CDF or NAPA contacts, but every thing I do seems to result in the instant death script. Very poor game/mission design :(

You are never meant to get to the evac zone. You have to go with NAPA.

Yes, but why couldn't they design it so that you get to the evac site, and USMC is already gone, then a cutscene or radio message come in to explain that you need to make it to CDF or NAPA? I was trying to get to CDF via the shore line highway but kept getting killed before I got about 2 km to the shore.

The current scripted "insta death" is not at all BIA's style and philosophy of open map gaming.

...funny this stupid script is in another mission ..i don't remmeber the name, but i wanted o explore another zone in mission and a invisible line not let me pass....the funny thing is theat one time i try to walk with the tank under the water, so i think no one see me...but surprise after pass a a invisible line a rocket destroy me...ha ha...under water...

and the s...y bug from arma1 is with as in arma2...when you swim you lose all ammo and weapons...a special soldier never lose his weapon, this is his life in a warfield...

The silly thing about the Helo evac, is that he comes in over the sea and the tries to fly back over land and so gets shot down.

I tried to get to the evac point on my own and got to about 2km but couldn't get passed that point.

I ended up going back inland and was found by the CDF and completed the mission from there.

Listen you are not supposed to go to the evac zone you will just get FUBAR, and you either needs to go with napa in novy sobor or go to the CDF camp 5 clicks away, but they will pick you up at around 2 km away from the camp. They way to do this mission the easiest way. When simmons die and you see napa people, let them help you and dont call in chopper, they take you to a car, they will drive you near Novy sobor (Or stary sobor i dont remmember) you getout decide to go to the napa in Novy sobor or head to the CDF camp, choose CDF camp, stay away from roads and cities, try only to walk in the forrest. Thats your best shot to accomplish
