Help with computer specs

Recommended Posts

So i downloaded the arma 2 demo to test out if i wanted to buy the game since i have loved all their previous titles. For some reason though my computer can barely handle it and when i watch others useer vids they get better performance from a computer with less power than mine.

AMD phenom II x4 20 2.8 ghz

6 gig ram

9500 gt

Windows vista 32 bit

186.15 Nvidia drivers

Everything normal except AA and Anitstropic filt off also shadows off and postproccesing off. 100% fillrate veiwdistance 2000. Yet for some reason everytime i run the demo benchmark i get 20 fps or less. so when i turn on shadows and post-proccessing it gets bumped down to 15. SO this game is really unplayble for me. Any help or suggestions would be great.

Video card is the weak link there.

try 88 or even 80% fillrate.

texture - low

video mem - DEFAULT (switching to this from normal gave me a big boost for some reason)

terrain - very low

objects - low

shadows - disabled

post process disabled

your gfx is holding you back by the looks of it, try those settings and see if its smooth enough, then gradually turn them up if you like.

Also, try the new nvidia beta drivers

So what maybe upgrade to one of the geforce 200 series or maybe the ATI hd 4000 series of cards?

Yes, a newer card will definitely help.

I PM'd you a link for a good mid range card. Im not sure if we're allowed to link retail sites here.

wooly back jack i tried your suggestion pretty much everything low 83% fillrate got a 31 but its just not the same. I usually love games just if they have good gameplay graphics are usually not a big concern of mine if its fun. But this game just makes you feel more immersed when running at higher settings. I might try the new Beta drivers and see if that works out but I guess i might just end up waiting alittle bit to get the game.

If you want to get a new card (and your old one is definitely the problem with your spec) then you should get a HD4890.

There's a sticky for these kind of queries in the General section. Search before you open a thread are words to live by around here if you dont want to piss off mods.

Where did you get that idea? If that was true, a load of people, myself included, would have gotten ourselves banned about ten times over by now...

Yea for this game i dont mind running everything on normal cause it still looks decent its just I would like to have shadows and a good view distance ontop of playable fps. So i just might get a new video card especially since it seems the one i have is my main problem. Thanks for the help everyone.
