Arma2 servers are a problem

Recommended Posts

If you got kicked from the Charlie Foxtrot server it was because:

1) You Tkd

2) You decided to take a Helo for a joy ride without transporting any troops and decided to dump it leaving no transport at base.

3) You were shooting all around the base

There would have been repeated warnings like 'Hey Joe, we already have a pilot running taxi, please leave that MH60 as a backup and jump in that one' (-off goes joe in his empty MH60). In some cases they will say, 'I wanna run a taxi too' and that usually fine.

We make no apoligies for being tough on players, you need to be at this stage. Only 1 guy can ruin a game for lots of people. Having said that the 100 or so players who join us every night dont mind that as it means they get as good and clean game as is possible with an open server. Many of them return night after night so we must be doing something right.

None of the above actually, me and another player were asking why addons were disabled on CF. The admin said some ridiculous stuff like VOP messes with hitboxes? So we were debating that and he decided to kick us, absolutely no warning whatsoever. I'll never go back.

Seems like a misunderstanding to me, they do happen. I've been kicked for standing near a helicopter when it crashed. That was kind of weird. But yeah, sometimes admins make weird decisions because they see something different than we do, nothing we can do about that.

Well, it's not easy easy to admin a server with many people on it, I'm rather new to this role and learning avoiding mistakes, but it can happen quickly.

I'd like to second that. I tend to rule our server with an iron fist, if I am online. That includes both our members as well as any civvies. Sometimes - someone is doing something that is going to cause a problem and there simply isn't time to explain the issue and its faster to kick them. In these situations, if someone rejoins, I will explain why we had to do what we did. It's nothing personal, and if someone rejoins I nearly always give them the benefit of the doubt.

We locked our server down for ArmA with a password for most of the time, due to the tiresome cheaters. Some of the mods we used didn't allow us to have adequate sign protection, so we were open to exploit. Now that we're running things much more public, its safer to take a cautious approach and rule with an iron fist. After all - its costs hundreds or thousands of dollars a year to run such a server... people have alot invested in it.

In summary, I feel bad when I kick someone and realize they didn't realize they shouldn't use that chopper. But sometimes, there just isn't time to explain if they're not on our teamspeak.

I have a question. I seem to get kicked from a lot of public&open servers when trying to join. Unfortunately as you know there isnt realy a precise feedback why this is happening. Of course I am making sure no mods are installed and I didnt realy have that problem with ArmA1 nor OFP back in the days.

From what I can say my ping is always relatively low. So that shouldnt be an issue. For playing multiplayer I disable all mods and only use a custom face of 100kb in size.

Could anyone provide me a checklist of what the reasons could be so I could take some corresponding countermeasures? Thanks and much appreciated. :)

I know I simply put custom files size to zero, which means people using custom files will get disconnected. Maybe other servers do and that's the reason you get disconnected (without reason is wrong, though, you should know why you're kicked)

I suppose you are refering to my custom face. I will take it out of my folder and try it out tonight!

Yeah that will be it. We have ours set to 0. We frown upon Squad XMLs too.
