whopper_with_cheese 0 Posted July 13, 2009 In the same vain as the video card thread, i want to upgrade my system too. Currently got C2Duo E8600, 2x 9800GTX+ I'll prob go for a 4890 or 295 for the vid card, but the CPU i'm not too sure about. A lot of reviewing websites suggest getting the i7-920 and overclocking the hell out of it, i.e. dont bother getting one of the later i7s because you'll end up around 4Ghz anyways. Just wanted to hear of peoples real world experiences with this. Also, specific motherboard recomendations would be welcome. Asus P6Ts seem to get a good rap, but there seem to be a number of variations of them. tar muchly Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
Binary 0 Posted July 13, 2009 A lot of problems with 2xx video cards and i7's have been reported.. If it was me - I'd get the 4890 as you suggested, but would stick with the 775 platform for a bit longer. The Q9650 or Q9550 is more than capable of running ArmA 2 very excelent. Furthermore - the Q9650 and especially Q9550 is pretty cheap these days. If you just do want to go i7 - I'd say go for the 920 - and at least try it out for a week before you start OC'ing (stock performance is still amazing you know) but stay CLEAR of the nVidia 2xx series then. The performance index of those cards is really amazing - but it's so incredibly unstable combined with i7's in several games.. Especially ArmA 2.. But of course - everything said above could be changed in a future patch.. Or not ::) Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
no use for a name 0 Posted July 13, 2009 looks like you have a pretty damn decent system now...but if you want to get rid of it I'll take it off your hands :D just remember if you go i7, you'll need a whole new mobo and ram...pretty much a new system. also the i5's are coming out later on this year, and they're supposed to have similar performance and cheaper Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
