OPS Thrasher[SP] - My Experimental Mission

Recommended Posts

OPS THRASHER.

INTRO:

Pardon the unimaginative name. The purpose of this mission is basically to test High Command module with secOps and to experiment with my idea of commanding a platoon in conventional ARMA way and High Command way.

You are the platoon commander of a 28 man platoon. By default you will have 28 man under you in regular/conventional ARMA way of commanding a group. At any time (eg in combat) you can split your platoon to 3 groups (squad) and you can command them in High Command fashion, using the radio (0-0-1). At any time also you can join them up together again using the same method. Please note I'm not a very skilled scripter, so if you take a look at the script, it probably quite messy/unoptimize to your eyes

MISSION OBJECTIVE:

The mission is basically a SecOps mission with no end trigger. So you play until you get bored and use the endmission cheat or until you die

FUTURE HOPE:

As explain, this mission was just to test the commanding aspect. Later on, maybe I'll get a good mission done

INSTALLATION:

Please extract the pbo into your ARMA2/missions folder

Thanks a lot. I don't mind the fact that it's not structured at all. Like you I want to learn about the command system at the platoon level so this will be perfect. I'd be really grateful if you even made one at the company level to see how my computer handles it.

I'm going to post my sort of AAR playing last night. I got a secOps to assault enemy mission. I looked at my map, the enemy position is to my north. To the south of the enemy camp, there's a forest, (more like a clump of tress, about 200m*200m) about 300-400m away from the enemy.

I group my platoon (easier to tag them along with me, rather than using the High Command) and head north to the trees. About 100m from the trees, I stopped them, put them on HOLD FIRE, and start reconnoiter the enemy camp. Making my plans. I'm in the forest, looked through bino and saw the enemy camp, got 3 russians there. I looked for a good spot to mount my attack, but after the forest, there's about 200m of open fields, I dont think my men will survive the assault. I looked at the map again, and there's a hilly forest to our east. Seems like a good spot. So I reconnoiter the place.

After reconnoitering, I come up with assault plan. ALPHA squad will provide fire support from the forest at the east (the first place I recon). Bravo and Charlie will be the assault group. So I split them up, and play in HC mode now. Postion them to their respective position. when all is ready, I ordered ALPHA to open fire (all of them was set to HOLD FIRE earlier). to my delight, ALPHA open up and got the enemy distracted. I let ALPHA went wild for a while. After about 30secs - 1minute, I assault the enemy position with BRAVO and CHARLIE. the firefight lasted about 5-10minutes.

We overrun the enemy camp. Mission accomplished. I begin reorg my platoon and found out I lost 5men in the process. Not a very good assault I suppose.

[edit] enemy casualties is just about 5-6men... not a good kill to loss ratio if you ask me

After a while, got another secOps to defend friendly position... but that's another story.

In conclusion, secOps and HC is really damn fun to play. But with secOps, like the assault mission, you (the player) have to be at the camp to inspect for the mission accomplish trigger to activate. cant use your subordinates units. to inspect. make sense I suppose, they clear the area, I confirm it with the HQ, mission accomplished.
