Shooting up civilians, are there any consequences in the SP campaign?

I have (on very few occations) accidentally shot some civilians thinking they were hostile. Is there any real consequence to your character in the main campaign for killing civilians? I havent noticed any so far, but I am still early in the campaign.

I think it might fail the mission if you kill too many but I'm not sure.. I think the most I've done is shot a few in the legs and arms.
