Javelin and suppressed weapons :(

Recommended Posts

Why is the Javelin so unrealistic in ArmA II? Even CoD4 got it way better. There's no waiting, the viewfinder is nothing like the real one and you can't select between top attack and direct attack.

And then about suppressed weapons (or "silenced" as it's referred to in the game.. might as well call magazines clips too :P). The suppressed M4 should sound very loud even with a suppressor, the noise just "flattens" but the massive sonic bang is still there. You'd be heard instantly. UNLESS however you use subsonic ammunition, in which case it still doesn't sound right (it sounds like an airsoft gun, instead of a hard bolt sound), and also if you use subsonic ammunition, the rifle won't cycle and you'll have to pull the charging handle after each shot. Instead you can fire full auto with something that sounds like a subsonic suppressed .22LR but is as powerful as 5.56mm.

Not sure about the exact damage, but the subsonic 5.56 definitely behaves in a much inferior way to the normal 5.56, making it pretty useless in-game. I've never heard of subsonic 5.56 IRL though, probably for those very reasons - it being pretty useless. They definitely decided to implement "subsonic 5.56" in game though, seen as the magazines are labled differentl.

I think there is 5.56 subsonic ammunition but it does tend to be pretty iffy, for that reason i don't think the military use it (might be wrong there though). I agree that the noise would be heard but the point of a suppressed weapon is to make the sound less obviously from a weapon so you might not be found out if you used such a weapon.

And although it is preferable to name such a weapon as suppressed alot of government departments refer to them as silencers. The device's inventor also used the term silencer although that could be argued to almost be a brand name these days.

The javelin has been sorted in ARMA 1 so i reckon it will be in ARMA 2 aswell. (not sure if it was a mod or a patch though)

ARMA2 will get even better javelin than ArmA1 if i understand it correct through an addon. ACE2 will be the ultimate salvation.

Watch this video to see what a proper Javelin in ArmA2 would look like. Imagine the IR post processing layer in there as well and you get an idea.

This video is the best reference on YouTube to what the gunner sees when firing the real thing.

The Javelin in ArmA2 is absolutely an untouched port from ArmA1, silly behavior remains.

You are correct that suppressed and silenced are not the same thing. The M4SD was always the most irritating weapon to use in ArmA1 & 2 default missions.

Hooly crap that looks cool :o so is that real in-game stuff and not some addon filter? If so, how come this mod hasn't been released yet (unless I'm mistaken)?

I wish ArmA 2 went through a trial beta first where the community can mod the game to perfect it and THEN release it. It seems kinda silly for a console game like OFP2 have a better Javelin than the game of OFP's original developer who also develop real simulators for military purposes.

It's a WIP that was going to be for ACE1 I think but since ArmA2 came out they might be going for ACE2.

This is exactly what it needs, but it needs to be done by BIS and not just a mod in ACE 2. Perhaps a simplified version of this though. Two or three status modes, 'Day' and either nightvision or FLIR or both, which you cycle through by pressing the nightvision key (if thats even posible for a weapon, if not then the action menu). Also 'direct' or 'top' fire modes. I think thats all it needs. I don't think it should be any more complicated than that.

I concur Murphe. We shouldn't have to rely on add-ons to have a semi-realistic Javelin.

Having played with silenced weapons quite much recently I must say that this is not correct completely - at least in the game.

The G36C I think is also silenced and uses - if not modded heavily (havent paid attention to this) - 5.56mm subsonic ammo. I had some really good Inf-killing runs in the coop missions.

Yesterday I had the opportunity to test the ... uhm.. what was it... AK-74 Kobra UN? Well, the short one with the foldable back. This gun is also silenced.

Dunno right now which ammo this gun uses ( I tend to say that it uses 7.62mm, also subsonic) but after some hours I'd not say that it did its job significantly better than the G36C...

Now - how its looks in the real world is another thing. I'm talking about the IG-feeling here, so dont get me wrong :)
