heretik 10 Posted June 27, 2009 Hi, Just got arma2 in the post this week and was having a lot of fun until I realised I can't play anymore than 15 mins until it crashes  It's a bit of a weird ctd as it says arma2.exe has a problem etc, but then when I try to do something like load firefox, it will load the window but inside the window I can see my background image... (the window doesn't display properly) and all the text under my icons turns purple?? only way to fix it is to reboot... I think it might be a overheating problem... as when I put all the graphics into seriously low I could play for 39 mins and counting (I actually took a stopwatch) my specs: win xp ATHLON 64 X2 6000+ 3.0GHz 8800 gts 640mb 2gb of ram newest drivers for gphix card but with the old ones same thing happened crysis/far cry 2/mirror's edge all worked alright... Has anyone had overheating problems before? anything like this? or could it be a graphics setting which causes the game to die? If it's a overheating problem, shouldn't the nvidia card report this somewhere? I'm not too familiar with finding graphics problem so any help would be appreciated... Detritus 10 Posted June 27, 2009 Hi heretik, You normally find overheating issues will result in a BSOD or system freeze. Crashing to desktop etc may be indicative of a memory leak, ensure you get the latest updates for Arma2 to try and combat this. Another issue could be faulty hardware, i.e. trying to address an area in either the graphics memory or your RAM that is physically defective, but again, this would normally result in a BSOD. To be honest, if your system recovers from these problems without freezong or crashing, I would be tempted to look at your drivers for everything. Not just your graphics. Try that first and see where that takes you. Unfortunately it is very difficult to pinpoint issues like these especially when everything else works fine, and so you just have to go through a process of methodical elimination. To double check for overheating issue, get some monitoring software like Speedfan and Rivatuner, they might help in eliminating heat issues. Hope this helps. heretik 10 Posted June 27, 2009 thanks for the quick reply, I'll try those monitoring software - what temperature should the graphics card usually be around at? The nvidia panel shows gpu temperature and after the game crashes its around 70+ (too high?) I did get a BSOD once, said smth like page_fault_in_unpaged_area but the screen went away too fast (couldn't get any more details out of event viewer) I've got arma up to 1.02 but I'll try slowly increasing all the graphics options until I figure out which one causes it to die on me :-( it's a shame really, cos on a mix of high graphics I get pretty good quality/frame rate ratio which is really playable but on all low options (where the game is stable) it's really ugly T_T
