So few PvP serves?

Recommended Posts

I am just wondering why there are so few PvP servers out there, I mean what ever happened to the Berzerk missions, and all the fun AAS missions. Seems its all just Domination, EVO, and random Coops. has anyone actaully tried PvP in Arma2? Its Way more fun than ARMA ever was.

This game is about Team Cooperation. That is the basis of it's design. There are plenty of PvP games out there. WHY OH WHY do you people who just love running around shooting other human players, which have no tactical abilities at all on either side, have to go suck the life out of every Co-Op game out there???

If you are getting good team cooperation playing against AI, then the game can only get better if you put equal team cooperation on the opposing side and fight against them.

Playing against AI is boring, they don't think, they don't plan, they can't beat you, they just wander, fly, drive in a pattern then die. Variables in their code is all they react to. Don't you think having two very good, organized, communicating, planning teams going head to head would be unpredictable and intense?

If you could really get 2 teams against eachother that have good tactical movement and cooperation, then yes, I agree with you. But the occurence of that is probably 1 out of 1000. There is always someone, if not everyone who tries to play rambo going in with guns blazing, reacting even more stupidly than the AI...running, jumping, diving, rolling...dolphin diving, bunny hopping, etc... Don't get me wrong. One of my favorite games is BF2. But, I wanted something with a bit more tactic, as my first reaction to being shot at is not hopping around like a fool or running, jumping and faceplanting onto the ground.

One thing I don't like about AI is that once you start shooting at them, it is like they constantly know where you are. You can duck behind cover, run to the other end of that cover and poke your head out and they shoot you instantly. They know when you are hiding behind a tree, even if they didn't really have the chance to see you go there, a lot of times, they know where you are coming from, and if you start shooting, they instantly know which direction it is coming from. Now that...I don't like.

Still boils down to the same thing.

Join a Squad.

It would be nice to have pvp with all the co-op and team play on random servers, but this ain't RO.

I've said already that me wants more pvp but deep inside I'm looking for a team, to reap the full benefit of this game!

Thanks.

its a west coast based server.

game ip is 66.148.120.48:2302

Seen A few drop in but most one or two at a time . Ive been testing the server and it should be on this mode all the time .

would like to a see a 60 player verison and covering more ground.

Its a blast to play and would like to make some of my own but could not find the templet that was mention in the link provided by KJU .

The hardest part is seeding the servers so to speak. people will not join a empty server and untill you get five in there the server stays empty.

Thats partly why the evo servers are full most people like a big crowd

PvP = PvWhoHasBestFPS. I can't play as I find the frame rate too erratic and not responsive enough, playing against the AI is just about workable. Now if I had one of those machines that the game ran well on then maybe this would interest me, by Phenom II x4 955 BE just doesn't cut it anymore it seems.

I'm going to change my server from Co-op to PvP once my squadmates get used to the game and we're confident we know what's going on.

If that kind of behavior leads to your enemies' demise and defeat, they are of course stupid and should learn how to play properly. However, if you are complaining about it because you lose to them anyway, perhaps you should think about your own tactics because your opponents might be more adaptive to the game's or mission's rules than you are. Playing pvp with respawn like it's coop just doesn't work, you'd get annihilated by the team that has a better grasp of the mission's gameplay. In CTF, DM and other fast-paced pvp modes, the rabbit will always beat the turtle.

PvP = PvWhoHasBestFPS.

Don't make excuses. I've been playing pvp in A1 with the specs you can see in my sig (barely playable fps) and more often than not my opponents could barely keep up. In A2 I played a deathmatch with the same PC at 320x240 with an abysmal frame rate and won. Pvp is about skill and new hardware doesn't give it to you.

I have just got a server up and running and would like to get rid of ANY AI type maps or missions and run just PVP stuff. I know how to run servers and have mine up and running and working but really am lost on the ARMA folder hiearchy and where everything goes.

Any help or links would be much appreciated.

People love playing AI, cause they hate they 1. Hate the challenge of playing smart enemies 2.They get sick to there stomach when they die to a real player

To me personally I have always avoided doing anything that involve competition with other human beings, without being certain that I could always beat them. So if I dont master on something and be recognizing my odds to never die/lose/get defeaded and let anybodye else get score to doing so for me. I hate dyinng in any games even to AIs but its almost like self destruction world end if I would lose to real human opponent so thats why PvP has been big nono to me. Simple I made convention to making sure in my life I wont get beated.

Just tried AAS last night for the first time. It was by far the best experience I've had in ARMA2 mutliplayer. I don't have time to player for hours on end (only a couple hours if I'm lucky and usually only 30min or so). AAS is perfect for this casual type of play.

You just jump in, your close to the battle and off you go.

Sadly enough though, the latency for all available AAS servers were pretty high >150 and there were only three of the tons of servers available.

I had a blast though finally playing again a human player, no clue why there aren't more

:(

Dude, it's just a game. It make it much more exciting and immersive when it is human players that you can't predict movement.

If it really bothers you that much, just pretend they are fully aware AI bots run by a quantum computer or something

It's just a game against people you will never meet who are across the country or even across the globe. Take a chill pill, more people need to play PVP in ARMA2! You win some, you lose some.

You have to run it over dedicated server this bug is work only if you server and client in same game. you have to run armaserver then run arma and join on your server this should be work than. ;)

Try ATOW or AGW server you should have ping no higher than 70.

I'm from Europe and have 100 more but works fine for me.

:soldier:

BTW one more thing for all of you.

If we want to improve team play and play it more organized encourage people to use build in voip and try to avoid TS.

Experienced players should take command and create some groups and give orders.

It’s the same on TG coop when no one organized play mission is doomed from beginning so we should organized teams similar like in coop if we want to work.

We tried to use VoN on P0, but the quality sometimes fails.

Voice over Net, the ingame voice system. P0 is a server. Should have written ping0 for clarity, but...

pingZero actually, comes from a CS server of very very old time named after a stupid joke :) I don't guarantee perfect pings on it ;)

the more you play aema 2, the better it gets.

That is good grades for a game.

I agree. In response to someone else's reply as well, a lot of people are jumping into ARMA2 MP without the slightest clue as to how to play or how it works. Spending some tine in training missions and in the campaign pays big dividends, and the enjoyment factor will only increase.

Also, in one Capture The Island (CTI) server I was in, I found it hard to differentiate between human and AI players. The AI was that good. They played like a human. I guess the difficulty was up higher than "regular". I would suggest getting more comfortable with the game and how to manage a squad, THEN jump into a big MP game like CTI, and you will see how great this game can be.

See you on the battlefield, guys! :681:

Also, don't be afraid of high pings, people. Unless you play one of those wardrobe-sized paintball arena missions then 150-200 ping is a breeze to play with. ArmA is so slow-paced and battles fought over such a distance that you don't need the same kind of super-good ping and twelve thousand FPS like when playing UT, Quake or CS.

30fps and 150 ping and you'll do fine :)
