Slarticus 10 Posted June 23, 2009 When I first got the game and put the disk in I found that my computer refused to recognise that a disk was actually in the drive. After a frustrating hour or so of trying various things from drivers for my drive to checking I had no image mounting software installed or running imaged drives I decided to just try it again and for some unknown reason it worked and disk recognised I managed to install the game. Now I've been playing the game over the last few days but I still have this issue where the disk is not recognised and have to keep ejecting and loading the disk repeatedly until it is recognised to be able to play. This is getting rather labourious and most annoying when I just want to play a game. My drive is a PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-215 ATA. Anyone have any suggestions or had similar issues? dmarkwick 259 Posted June 23, 2009 Do any of your other games use Starforce protection? :) I can only imagine that it's a breakdown of the drive's functionality. You could try installing a separate new drive to augment the old one, and see if the problem remains. Oh, and if you DO have Starforce installed, uninstall it first :)
von_paulus 0 Posted June 23, 2009 How old is your PIONEER drive? It's the only drive in your system?
Eroglik 0 Posted June 23, 2009 Yeah, I had this problem with Fallout 3 and now I'm getting it with Arma 2. The disc is fine for installing or putting it into the PC, it will read okay but when the disc is already in the computer and you try to load the program, it says 'please insert correct disc' or something along those lines. Best thing you can do is to keep taking out the disc and putting back in. I have steam so i tried adding the shortcut to my steam games list and I can launch it from there no problem, so I use that now.
Slarticus 10 Posted June 23, 2009 Hi thanks for the replies. 1. No I have no games that use Starforce nor have i ever heard of it :0 2. If it was a problem with the drive why would i work sometimes and not others? 3. The whole oc is only about 1 year old, so the drive itself is not that old. 4. Yes it's the only drive in my system never seen the need for more than 1. I've seen other people mention this could be an issue to do with SecuROM that sometimes stops the drive detecting the disk but I have never had a game with this backward sort of protection before. Surely it woul dbe easier to get owners of the game to register their cd key to an account to verify ownership that way. Then you just have to login to play, seems to work for many other games including mmo's.
von_paulus 0 Posted June 23, 2009 I'm not stating that is something wrong with your drive, but sometimes the problems begin in a gradual way. It's also a known issue that Securom doesn't work well with all dvd drives.
