For gtx 295 users

Recommended Posts

Seems like noone of us (owners of the GTX295 card ) got some solution to getting some decent FPS so i'll try to setup this thread for comparrison of the owners of the Gtx295

1 We gotta use the same mission and scenario my suggestion is the arma mark.

you can download it here

http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?t=73610&highlight=arma+mark

2 we gotta post our settings our cfg and our results

3 we gotta discuss it and find some possible fix

pls don't post about other GFXcards there are allready enough threads about it but none of them seems to fix the problem for the gtx295

All mine were in the high 40's, with the last test only hitting 13.

Overall score 3937.

IMO the test is pointless though, I only experience lag and stuttering on missions with lots of scripting whilst being in or near buildings.

I have set interface resolution to 1280x768 and the 3D resolution to 1600x960 and my game runs really quick and with no mouse lagg. Any other resolution lower or higher than the one I mention and my game plays horrible. Please try what I have said and let me know if this works for you. One other thing mt Anti alias is set to 2 in the config.

My spec:

Vista Ultimate 64

Q6850 @3ghz

8gig DDR3

PNY GTX295

ASUS mobo

My fps is around 20, but the graphics are terrible, black blocks, graphics missing, constant flickering of sprites.

Tried 3 sets of drivers, including the new ones. updated DirectX, just reinstalling now to see if that helps, doupt it though

best of 3 Mark test = 2848

i did numerous pass using various settings and well no, lowering interface and 3d resolution did not improve much the stuttering or markII test .

lowering to 1280x1024 + 1600x 900 fillrate only boosted performance by 10% but the quality loss is to huge

edit : ----- Ignore this comment i did a typo renaming the exe ------ using crisis- crisis64.exe did lower my scores by almost 30% (i have added an arma2 profile in my nvidia setting panel with all options to default)

using the -winxp launch parameter reduced my scores by +-10%

i have to say, my gameplay experience is realy a big deception due to bad/low graphic performance. and no the cpu doenst seem to be the bottleneck as its usage is 75 to 90% and very rarely 100%

i think the problem is, that the engine only use 1 gpu, you might want to check that with everest or other programs, which show GPU usage.

When you said you tried crisis.exe and crisis64.exe is that a typo? as that wont work it needs to be spelt crysis.exe or crysis64.exe.

Oups yes typo i did running the tests too so i reran 4 set of 3 Mark II test

crysis64. exe -nosplash -mamxmem=2047

2137 - 2751 - 2864

arma2.exe -nosplash -mamxmem=2047 (with nvidia panel arma2 profile all option left on default)

2562 - 3159 - 3091

arma2.exe -nosplash -mamxmem=2047 ( mem timing lowered to 3-3-3-10)

2891 - 3166 - 3354

arma2.exe -nosplash -mamxmem=2047 ( mem timing lowered to 3-3-3-10) + FSAA=2;

2595 - 3269 - 3281

conclusion :

1) i still get a beter result using an arma2 user created profile using all default option into the nvidia panel. my previous typo error shows that adding and using a nvidia profile indeed enable sli

2) on the 3rd run i lowered my memory timing from 4-4-4-12 to 3-3-3-10 (my comp is not 100% stable at these timings) and well the result is stuning. my main issue was that the game was realy choppy i mean it didnt feel fluid at all. when i lowered the timings that feeling totaly dissapeared. now i actualy can enjoy looking left and right with my trackir without feeling some sickness due to blury/choppy motion. ill just crank up the memory voltage and pray for stability and that the sticks will not burn ^^

3) setting FSAA to 2 didnt affect the performances much, the only big difference was on the first run

i believe you have to use the -winxp flag to use multigpu. If your in Vista or win7,the crysis.64 is only good for 64bit system and would be XP64 at this time for multigpu.

i use vista 64

and seems the -winxp parameter doesnt affect the game anymore since 1.02

arma2.exe -nosplash -mamxmem=2047 -winxp ( mem timing lowered to 3-3-3-10)

2653 - 3255 - 3301

arma2.exe -nosplash -mamxmem=2047 -winxp ( mem timing lowered to 3-3-3-10) + FSAA=2;

2631 - 3180 - 3318

one thing i would like to look into is the securom protection

it is not the first time in the game industry that a poor implementation of the securom protection to the exe and the game data by the editor result in bad/poor performance and especialy in very variable performance result rendering the the same scene over and over like we can see here.

its real easy to see the frame jump if SLi is working, the intro will be double fps or so using fraps?. Some settings in your default may not be good for 1.02? i have had succse in the CP tweaking out the sli. AFR2 maybe a better choice. copy your arma2.exe and rename to some new dxgame with hdr, set it up in the profile, try the -winxp flag with that in V64 or win7...

its strange i still have less vram that arma2 finds. i can only set low or normal in grafik settings. should be more of v-ram.

change the valor manually and use the cfg as read only

just tried al different settings in the CP and none of them seems to have an impact on the game altough crysis.exe enables the sli but only in the main menu ingame it doesn't enable don't now why but it simply doesn't.

tried to edit the cfg but without succes ingame we should be further testing

what would really help us is if BI told us their config they used

i just disabled SLI in the CP and it seems to not have any iprovements or losses in performance so SLI doesn't work. ( only in the main menu it does work )

We got 1 of the best video card but it's unussable in this game we are using a GTX 275 Hope you gonna fix this BI cause many people are using sli or crossfire these days.

Ahh welcome to the woe's. Do a search through the endless GTX295 threads, some things may work..

Sorry without re-reading your posts make sure you have tried these

1) Rename your arma2.exe to crysis64.exe (if your using X64 OS or just crysis.. don't know if there is a difference in the end buy some people had more luck with the former)

2) -winxp in the command line.

3) Try and delete your .cfg files and reconfigure your settings.. I am 99% sure something in this regard was happening to mine..

4) Pray to your god it gets fixed soon.

How does the SLI load bar look when SLI is disabled?

I only see a bar on the left... and it has a green column thats expanding equally (or contracting) to the top and the bottom.

I have found no proper documentation for it yet :)
