Distorted sound.

Recommended Posts

When i launch my game everything is fine, but once i enter a mission with a vehicle, the sound becomes very distorted, like the game is outputting it way too loud. I can't hear voices because of this or any other sounds. My sound in other games is normal.

What could this be?

I had this too on xfi extreme gamer card which is fine (only using stereo output no 5.1).

Simply turn the effects slider down to about 40 percent (under half way) in the audio settings. I have found that its default value (half way) and anything further will distort engine sounds and fly over sounds, which never happened in Arma 1 ... the sound settings and engine side of Arma 2 is a little odd to me to be honest.

Tried and tested, as I was stood next to a truck which was stuck and engine was going a bit bananas and heli was hovering over .. all started to distort, in-game I went to the effect slider and moved it around to un-distort it ... found out real time doing it that way. No more distortion. Just have to crack my speakers a little more. Should be addressed really.

Might be worth a try to disable/enable these settings in the username.arma2profile file (located in my documents/ArmA2 or ArmA 2 Otherprofiles)

soundEnableEAX=1;

soundEnableHW=0;

Notice that sometimes when helis flew over me there was a brief distortion. Sounded like the speakers couldnt take it - but even on low. Guess its the same. It happened on my mate's (plural) PC's very rarely.

soundEnableEAX=1;

soundEnableHW=0;

This are the standard settings. To fix the problem he musst disable EAX and could enable HW:

soundEnableEAX=0;

soundEnableHW=1;

works for me!

And if he use VISTA and has a X-Fi, he must install Alchemy and must create a standardprofile.
